First look at Drake Maye throwing deep ball to Patriots rookie WR Kyle Williams

The first video of New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye throwing to rookie wide receiver Kyle Williams popped up on social media on Wednesday, following the team's second open OTAs practice. Williams is expected to play a major role for the Patriots on offense. He was a part of the offseason rebuild that also included four-time Pro Bowl wide receiver Stefon Diggs, rookie offensive tackle Will Campbell and veteran tackle Morgan Moses. Advertisement The Patriots hope that Williams can help boost their wide receiver group by giving another reliable offensive weapon to Maye. They had one of the worst wide receiver units in the league last season, but they could be on the verge of finally turning things around with all of the recent offseason moves. Williams was believed to be the best pure separator in the entire 2025 NFL draft class. His ability to get open consistently can only mean good things for the offense. So far, he has been one of the standout receivers at OTAs. We'll see if that remains the case when the pads come on later this summer. Advertisement Follow Patriots Wire on Twitter and Facebook. Bill Belichick reveals second-best defensive player he's ever coached in NFL

Former New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick has never wavered in his belief that Pro Football Hall of Famer Lawrence Taylor was the greatest defensive player he's ever coached. But who was the second greatest? Advertisement The six-time Super Bowl-winning coach revealed that former Patriots All-Pro safety Rodney Harrison gets that honor when appearing on "The Pivot Podcast". Belichick was making a point that every player is different, and it's his job as a coach to play to their strengths to get the most out of his players on the football field. While deep-diving on coaching strategies, he also gave high praise to Harrison. "You just try to play to the players' strengths," said Belichick, the current head coach for the North Carolina Tar Heels. "Rodney Harrison was the second-greatest defensive player I coached behind Taylor, but he's different than Devin McCourty. "They're both great players. You try to let them do what they can do and let them play the game to their strengths. I think that's your job as a coach, to get the team prepared to play and then put them in a position where they got a fair fight." Advertisement Harrison is a Patriots Hall of Famer and All-Dynasty player who has been a Pro Football Hall of Fame finalist multiple times. He is a two-time Super Bowl champion and one of the best defensive backs in NFL history. His arrival in New England was transformative, and it helped elevate the team as back-to-back Super Bowl champions. Belichick stands firm in his belief that he has coached the greatest players of all time at every phase of football—Taylor on defense, Tom Brady on offense and Matthew Slater on special teams. It's an incredible compliment to Harrison to be on that list of all-time great players under the greatest coach of all time. Follow Patriots Wire on Twitter and Facebook. Patriots make announcement on recently released longtime team captain

The New England Patriots will celebrate the career of center David Andrews on Monday, June 2, with a retirement press conference. This was officially announced by the team in a social media post on Wednesday. Advertisement Andrews was released by the Patriots back in March after nine seasons with the team. The move initially came as a surprise considering how much Andrews has meant to the organization. He's a two-time Super Bowl champion and a member of the Patriots' All-2010s Team. There's arguing against the fact that Andrews is one of the Patriots' great success stories as a former undrafted rookie who went on to become a longtime team captain and key offensive piece for the team. The hope was always that Andrews would finish his career with the Patriots. He initially contemplated playing elsewhere, but he also acknowledged that he still loved the community after making a life there for so many years. Advertisement Honoring Andrews' retirement after an incredible career always seemed fitting to be in New England. Without question, he's a Patriot for life. Super Bowl hero reveals Patriots rookie RB studying his old game film

New England Patriots legend James White teased that rookie running back TreVeyon Henderson is studying some of his old game footage in preparation for the 2025 season. Henderson, a second-round draft pick, is expected to have a significant role in the offensive game plans for the team. Like White, he's a triple-threat option out of the offensive backfield with the ability to run, receive and pass protect. He recorded 3,761 rushing yards and 853 receiving yards over a four-year career at Ohio State. Advertisement He's the next generation of running backs for the Patriots who could learn a thing or two from an All-Dynasty player and three-time Super Bowl champion in White. "I got word from a little birdie that they tapped into that [film] right now," White responded on The Money Down Podcast, when it was suggested that Henderson watched some of his old game footage. "They tapped into some of that tape right now. ...They gon' get right man." The Patriots had hopes that Antonio Gibson could help fill the role that White had with the Patriots for eight years. Perhaps that'll still be the case with Gibson returning for a second season. The team also added undrafted rookie Lan Larison to the mix of a unit spearheaded by Rhamondre Stevenson. Advertisement Henderson is a home run option with the ball in his hands, but he is also capable of filling the third-down role left by White. He's a rare and versatile talent who should hit the ground running in his first season. Follow Patriots Wire on Twitter and Facebook. One Patriots UDFA reportedly already repping with top unit

It hasn't taken long for New England Patriots undrafted rookie Lan Larison to make noise in the running back room. The former UC Davis running back was taking reps with the top unit in the first week of organized team activities, as noted by 98.5 The Sports Hub's Alex Barth. Advertisement Patriots starter Rhamondre Stevenson was away from the team at the open OTAs practice last week, mourning personal tragedies. That opened up the door for Larison, who could make a strong case as a complementary option in the running back room. He can run, catch and pass protect out of the offensive backfield. Those kinds of versatile running backs typically do well in a Josh McDaniels-style offense. 'He was on the field with the top unit quite a bit. That's with Rhamondre Stevenson not there. So it comes with that caveat," Barth said on Patriots Catch-22. "But you talk about that third running back spot, it kinda seems like he's pushing Antonio Gibson already. He has some burst. Now the top end speed, is he the fastest running back? No. But his ability to get to his top speed on cuts is impressive." Patriots Wire's Jordy McElroy had Larison making the roster in a recent early 53-man roster projection for the Patriots. Advertisement Even if Larison doesn't surpass Gibson, he could serve as a solid No. 4 option in a room that will likely be spearheaded by Stevenson and rookie second-round draft pick TreVeyon Henderson. It could become one of the deepest running back units the Patriots have had in quite some time. Follow Patriots Wire on Twitter and Facebook.
