By Tuwaedaniya Meringing PATTANI, Aug 13 (Bernama) -- The Pattani United Liberation Organisation (PULO) has expressed its appreciation to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for Malaysia's commitment to mediate efforts to resolve the conflict in Pattani, southern Thailand. PULO President Kasturi Mahkota said Anwar's recent statement had brought renewed hope to the people of Pattani, who have long yearned for justice, peace, and a comprehensive, fair, and lasting resolution to the Pattani issue. bootstrap slideshow 'We are confident that Malaysia's approach that is based on diplomacy, dialogue, and mutual respect will pave the way for constructive negotiations,' he said in a letter addressed to Anwar recently. During an Aug 8 visit to Kelantan, Anwar announced that Malaysia was prepared to act as a mediator to resolve the conflict in southern Thailand and endeavour to end tensions between the warring parties. He said Malaysia would step up efforts to promote peace in the region so that the people could continue their studies in Islam and to raise the profile of the Malay language. In addition, Kasturi stressed that PULO was fully prepared to cooperate and provide all necessary support to ensure the success of the mission. 'We also believe this effort will further strengthen the existing bond between the people of Pattani and Malaysia,' he said. Kasturi also expressed hope that the effort would be blessed and that it would lead to everlasting peace.

PULO President Kasturi Mahkota said Anwar's statement renewed hope for justice and peace among the people of Pattani. He emphasised the need for a fair and lasting resolution to the long-standing Pattani issue. During a visit to Kelantan on Aug 8, Anwar announced Malaysia's readiness to mediate and ease tensions in southern Thailand. Kasturi assured PULO's full cooperation to ensure the success of the peace mission.
