Family ‘anxious' for answers as anniversary of unsolved murder of Paul Byrne falls
A RENEWED appeal for information has been issued today on the anniversary of the disappearance of Paul 'Frank' Byrne. The 20-year-old's remains were discovered in a wooded area by a forestry worker near Blessington in Co. Wicklow on July 29, 2010. He had last been seen on July 15, 2009 at Kilmartin Green in Tallaght, Dublin. On that day he was reported to have been seen leaving the estate in a 2000 registered wine-coloured Mitsubishi Carisma accompanied by other men. Paul 'Frank' Byrne' remains were found in woodland in Co. Wicklow in 2010 His mother reported him missing the following day. To date, five people have been arrested in connection with the investigation although no one has been brought to justice for Paul's murder. 'It is now sixteen years since Paul Byrne was last seen and Gardaí at Blessington Garda Station are renewing their appeal to the public for assistance and information in relation to his disappearance and murder,' the police force said in a statement today. 'Paul's family are anxious for the investigation to progress to bring them closure,' they added. Gardaí are appealing to those who may have information since 2009, or who may have come into possession of information in the intervening years, to come forward. Gardaí are urging individuals, who sixteen years on may want to come forward to do so, especially if relationships or associations have changed over the years. With the passage of time, people may now feel more comfortable sharing information with Gardaí. Gardaí would like to assure the public that they will treat anyone assisting the investigation in a sensitive manner. Gardaí have renewed their appeal for information about the murder of a young man from Dublin whose body was found in a forest near Blessington in County Wicklow, 15 years ago. 20-year-old Paul 'Frank' Byrne, was last seen on 15th of July 2009, at Kilmartin Green in Tallaght, Dublin 24, when its believed he left the area in a wine coloured Mitsubishi Carisma car, accompanied by a number of other men. Now sixteen years on, Gardaí in Blessington are renewing their appeal for assistance and information and are urging anyone, who may know anything about what happened to Paul, or have learned of any details in the intervening years to come forward. Gardai say that with the passage of time, people may now feel more comfortable sharing information about the case and especially if relationships or associations have changed over the years, and they have assured the public that they will treat anyone assisting in the investigation in a 'sensitive manner' and added 'Paul's family are anxious for the investigation to progress to bring them closure.' It was reported that he left the estate in a 2000 registered wine-coloured Mitsubishi Carisma accompanied by other males. Gardaí said this was the last sighting of Mr Byrne. He was reported missing by his mother at Tallaght Garda Station the following day. To date, five people have been arrested in connection with the investigation, however, no one has ever been brought to justice. "Paul's family are anxious for the investigation to progress to bring them closure," a garda spokesperson said. Gardaí are appealing to those who may have information since 2009, or who may have come into possession of information in the intervening years, to come forward. They are "urging individuals, who 16 years on may want to come forward to do so, especially if relationships or associations have changed over the years". Gardai have issued a fresh appeal for information as part of an ongoing investigation into the 2009 disappearance and murder of Dublin man Paul 'Frank' Byrne. Mr Byrne was last seen at his home at Kilmartin Green, Tallaght on July 15, 2009, when it was reported that he left the estate in a 2000 registered wine-coloured Mitsubishi Carisma accompanied by other men. The then-20-year-old was reported missing by his mother at Tallaght Garda Station the following day and an extensive search operation was launched by gardai. Skeletal remains belonging to the father-of-two were discovered by a forestry worker felling trees in a remote area at Ballyfolan in Blessington, Co WIcklow, on July 29, 2010. His remains were identified by way of DNA profiling and the investigation was taken over by gardaí in Baltinglass Garda Station. To date, five people have been arrested in connection with this investigation, however no one has been brought to justice for Paul's murder. Gardaí in Wicklow are renewing their appeal for information and are asking the public if they have any piece of information which they feel might be relevant to this investigation to make contact with them.
