New GPs boost services at Tipperary primary care centre

During the summer of last year, the Carraig Clinic Roche – Nagle Practice relocated from premises elsewhere in the town to the purpose built facility on the St Brigid's Campus, Pill Road, Carrick-on-Suir. The Carraig Clinic will also continue to provide its GP surgery facilities at the HSE Health Centre in Clonea Power, County Waterford on Mondays and Fridays. In February of this year, following its transfer from a temporary location locally, the Carrick-on-Suir Family Practice also began seeing patients at its suite in the Carrick-on-Suir Primary Care Centre. Opened in 2018, the construction of the Carrick-on-Suir Primary Care Centre was funded as a public private partnership. The centre in Carrick-on-Suir was designed as a state of the art facility, where people in the town and surrounding localities could access a full range of health services in one location. In the meantime, the following services have been available in and from the building: Public health nursing Physiotherapy Occupational therapy Speech and language therapy Dietetics outreach Registration for births, deaths and marriages Area medical officer Dental Diabetic retina screening Maternity clinics Post mastectomy supports Mental health services Child and adolescent mental health services Psychology services Social workers HSE national counselling services Child school screening clinics Older persons services incorporating home support Substance misuse services European Health Insurance Card and healthcare aid grant processing and health promotion. South Tipperary Chronic Disease Community Specialist Services are based in the adjacent St Brigid's Hospital building on campus. They provide services for people living with type 2 diabetes, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), asthma and heart conditions throughout south Tipperary, including consultant led respiratory and cardiology clinics in the Carrick-on-Suir Primary Care Centre. Health and wellbeing supports and community healthcare network management are also based in St Brigid's. In addition to working with primary care teams locally, the HSE also continues to provide services such as those of health care assistants in Carrick-on-Suir and its surrounding villages and parishes in Tipperary, Kilkenny and Waterford. Paul Goff, head of service-primary care, Carlow-Kilkenny, Tipperary South and Waterford-Wexford integrated healthcare areas, HSE Dublin and South East, welcomed the expansion of services available in Carrick-on-Suir Primary Care Centre in 2025. 'The HSE has a close working relationship with general practitioners and Caredoc - the out of office hours GP co-operative - serving the South Tipperary area and adjoining communities in counties Kilkenny and Waterford,' said Mr Goff. 'We are delighted, following some accommodation works carried out in the meantime, that the Carraig Clinic - Roche Nagle Practice and the Carrick-on-Suir Family Practice are co-located with our HSE services on the St Brigid's Campus in Carrick-on-Suir. 'In June 2024, we welcomed Dr Richard Roche-Nagle, his GP colleagues and their practice team into the Primary Care Centre. We were also delighted, more recently, to welcome the whole team from the Carrick-on-Suir Family Practice to the Centre. 'These developments over the last year are a very significant complement to the HSE's Primary Care, mental health, older persons, disabilities and health and wellbeing services and supports being offered in and from the Carrick-on Suir Primary Care Centre.'
