KUCHING (Aug 1): A 34-year-old mother of four is receiving basic food aid from Hope Place Kuching as she continues to recover from a recent surgery and remains jobless. Noor Elnisa Hasbi, who lives in Kampung Tabuan Melayu, sought help from the non-profit organisation after becoming financially dependent on her 67-year-old mother, a pensioner, to support herself and her children aged 12 to 17. 'Noor Elnisa underwent surgery in June after experiencing breathing difficulties during jogging last year. 'She was later diagnosed with thyroid after being rushed to the hospital with abdominal pain,' Hope Place said in a statement yesterday. Before her health deteriorated, Noor Elnisa ran a small business selling salted fish, locally known as 'pais'. However, her health issue has forced her to stop working, placing the family in a financial hardship. Despite their struggles, Noor Elnisa proudly shared that all four of her children are talented in Muay Thai martial arts, having participated in numerous competitions and won many medals. Hope Place extends appreciation to donors who make such support possible and encourages further contributions to help families like Noor Elnisa's. Donations can be made via its Maybank account (511289001160) or the S Pay Global QR code available on Hope Place's Facebook page. Receipts will be issued upon request. ‘She still cooks and cares': Hope Place Kuching lends hand to visually impaired grandma, struggling family

KUCHING (May 9): Hope Place Kuching is providing basic food supplies and children's milk powder to a family in Kampung Tijirak that is struggling to make ends meet. In a statement yesterday, the charity said 75-year-old Catherine Kayeng Suter, who is partially visually impaired, lives with her daughter and three grandchildren. 'She has blurred vision and finds it difficult for her to do things or go out on her own. Despite these challenges, Catherine still manages most of the household chores. She cooks for the family, keeps the house in order, and cares for her youngest grandchild,' said Hope Place following a recent visit. Catherine's daughter, Sylvia, 39, is a single mother with three children aged between two to 14. Due to her family situation, Slyvia is unable to take on full-time employment or earn a stable income. 'The only job Sylvia can manage is collecting and selling wild vegetables. However, with just one old motorcycle, she can only travel around the village or nearby areas to sell them. On a good day, she earns around RM30,' said Hope Place. Despite living under financial constraints, Catherine expressed gratitude for the monthly RM200 welfare assistance she receives. Hope Place said it aims to reach out to more individuals and families in need. The organisation welcomes donations and will issue official receipts upon request. Donations can be made via Maybank account number 511289001160 or visit its Facebook page for the S Pay Global QR code.
