OPEN// FM lauds distinguished relations between Egypt, Ghana
CAIRO, May 22 (MENA) - Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty lauded on Thursday distinguished relations between Egypt and Ghana. During a meeting with Ghanaian Foreign Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the top diplomat underlined the importance of maintaining consultations between the two countries' foreign ministries in activation of the memo of understanding signed between them to establish a mechanism for political consultations. He noted the increase of trade exchange from 177 million dollars in 2021 to 240 million dollars in 2023, praising the contributions of Egyptian companies in the Ghanaian market, especially in the construction and power generation sectors. He expressed Egypt's keenness to strengthen cooperation in key areas including counterterrorism, maritime security, border protection, and healthcare. He welcomed Ghana's constructive role in helping resolve crises in the West Africa region, expounding the security challenges facing the African continent, especially in the Lake Chad Basin and the Sahel region, which require stronger African solidarity amid the spread of armed and terrorist groups. The minister highlighted Egypt's comprehensive and sustainable national counterterrorism strategy which combines security measures with ideological and developmental efforts. He underlined the need to benefit from programs to counter extremist ideologies and promote peacebuilding that are offered by the Cairo International Center for Conflict Resolution, Peacekeeping and Peacebuilding (CCCPA). Egypt, Kenya to elevate ties to strategic level, sign 12 cooperation agreements
CAIRO – 30 January 2025: Egypt and Kenya announced in a joint statement that they would elevate ties to the comprehensive strategic level, and that would, thus, draft and sign a document that covers the areas of politics, economy, trade, investment, security, counterterrorism, water, regional cooperation, multilateral cooperation, climate change, education, culture, and capacity-building. The announcement was made during a visit by Kenyan President William Ruto to Cairo on January 29-31 upon an invitation by President Abdel Fatah El-Sisi. The strategic partnership agreement will include intensifying coordination and consultation on global and regional affairs of joint interest, establishing an Egyptian-Kenyan business council, and holding regular consultations on Nile Water affairs. It will also consist of bolstering Kenya's access to the programmes of the Egyptian Agency of Partnership for Development, and Cairo International Center for Conflict Resolution, Peacekeeping and Peacebuilding. The document will also showcase both countries' congruence on the necessity of strengthening the role of the African Union, and rendering UN organizations among others more representative of the global south, which starts from reforming the Security Council. As a first step, the two presidents attended Wednesday the signing of 12 cooperation agreements on political consultations, diplomatic training, investment facilitation, seaports, youth, space, ICT, higher education, gender equality, women empowerment, housing and urban development.

Egypt, Germany hold talks on African affairs in Cairo
CAIRO, Jan 27 (MENA) - Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for African Affairs Ambassador Ihab Awad and Director for Sub-Saharan Africa & the Sahel at Germany's Federal Foreign Office Christoph Retzlaff chaired a consultation session on Africa here on Monday. The two sides shared their views on the most prominent developments at the African level, especially in the situation in Sudan, the Horn of Africa, and the Sahel region. They also discussed counterterrorism efforts in Africa, as well as the Nile water dispute. The talks also covered prospects of mutual cooperation on some issues of common concern in Africa, including Egypt's peacebuilding efforts in Africa, whether the post-conflict reconstruction efforts led by President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, or the efforts made by the Cairo International Centre for Conflict Resolution, Peacekeeping and Peacebuilding (CCCPA). The Egyptian side also highlighted Egypt's development role in Africa. During the talks, the Egyptian Agency for Partnership for Development (EAPD) briefed the German side on its ongoing and future development activities in Africa.
