KUCHING (July 25): A single mother of three is receiving assistance in the form of basic food supplies and milk powder for her youngest child, following the passing of her husband in April this year.
According to Hope Place Kuching, 39-year-old Sim Pei Pei, who resides in a shoplot at MJC, has been struggling to make ends meet while caring for her three school-going children, aged between 2 and 11.
'Back in April, Sim's husband, who worked as a van driver, returned home around noon, saying he wasn't feeling well. This was the last Pei Pei heard from him,' said the non-governmental organisation (NGO) in a statement yesterday.
'She found him unresponsive when she returned home later that evening.'
Hope Place said Sim currently works as a clinic assistant at a private clinic on Rubber Road, earning a minimum monthly salary.
As she works during the day, her children are cared for by a nanny, whom she pays RM850 per month.
'Though the nanny's fee is expensive, Pei Pei has no choice, as a secure job is not easy to come by,' the NGO added.
Sim and her children are currently staying in a shoplot owned by her late husband's sister, rent-free. However, she still bears the cost of utility bills such as water and electricity.
Compounding her expenses, Sim's youngest son has been diagnosed with severe asthma. He requires the use of an inhaler and frequent hospital visits, further straining the family's limited finances.
Hope Place is appealing for public donation to help support Sim and her children.
Individuals can donate to Hope Place's Maybank account (511289001160), or via S Pay Global using the QR code available on its Facebook page. Donation receipts will be issued upon request.
