Unemployed man charged with murdering father in Kuala Krai, court orders psychiatric evaluation
KUALA KRAI, Aug 13 — An unemployed man was charged in the Magistrate's Court here today with the murder of his father. No plea was recorded from the accused, Narosman Othman, 39, as murder cases fall under the jurisdiction of the High Court. Narosman is accused of killing Othman Jusoh, 74, at a house in Kampung Kuala Gris here between 6 am and 6.30 am on Aug 6, under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which carries the mandatory death penalty upon conviction. Magistrate Amal Razim Alias fixed Sept 10 for mention and ordered the accused, who was unrepresented, to be sent to the Tanjung Rambutan Hospital in Perak for a psychiatric evaluation. Earlier reports stated that the victim was found lying in the kitchen of his home in a pool of blood, believed to have been struck on the head with a blunt object, causing severe injuries and death at the scene. — Bernama

Woman charged with murdering boyfriend's mum in Perak
No plea was recorded as murder cases fall under the jurisdiction of the High Court. (Reuters pic) PETALING JAYA : An unemployed woman was charged in the Teluk Intan magistrates' court today with the murder of her boyfriend's mother in Perak two weeks ago. The charges were read in Tamil to M Shobna, 37, before magistrate Naidatul Athirah Azman, Berita Harian reported. No plea was recorded as the case falls under the jurisdiction of the High Court. Shobna is accused of murdering M Sumathy, 66, at her home in Jalan Teratai J4/1, Taman Indah Jaya, at around 3am on July 15. She was charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which provides for the death penalty or between 30 to 40 years in prison, and a minimum of 12 strokes of the rotan upon conviction. Deputy public prosecutor Nur Darwis Aghniya Halim Azizi appeared for the prosecution. Shobna was unrepresented. No bail was offered. The court fixed Sept 11 for mention, pending the submission of the post-mortem report. Hilir Perak police chief Bakri Zainal Abidin said the case was initially classified as sudden death, but that a post-mortem on July 16 found 'suspicious elements' on the deceased's body. Police subsequently reclassified the case under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.

Shop assistant charged with murder of girlfriend's toddle in Alor Gajah
ALOR GAJAH, July 18 — A shop assistant was charged in the Magistrate's Court here today with murdering his girlfriend's 19-month-old child. Muhammad Isyraf Hifhzan Abdullah, 20, nodded after the charge was read out before Magistrate Dr Teo Shu Yee, but no plea was recorded as the case falls under the jurisdiction of the High Court. Muhammad Isyraf Hifhzan is charged with killing the baby girl on the third floor of a shop in Bandar Satelit Pulau Sebang, Alor Gajah, at about 9 pm on July 6 this year. He faces death or imprisonment for not more than 40 years, and whipping of not less than 12 strokes under Section 302 of the Penal Code. No bail was allowed and the court set Sept 23 for mention. Deputy Public Prosecutor Fiqri Hakim Zamri appeared for the prosecution while the accused was unrepresented. — Bernama
