Fayette groups spreading a positive message
If things are maybe looking a little grim, a Fayette County-based collaboration has a recipe to help brighten up the situation somewhat.
Good News Fayette County will be held beginning at 6 p.m. today at Smokey's on the Gorge in Lansing.
Presented by top sponsor Pendleton Community Bank with additional sponsorship from Greasezilla – sponsor of the ice cream social hour, Fayette County Community Foundation, Fayette County Chamber of Commerce and WV American Water, the free event is organized by a volunteer group formed by the Fayette County Chamber of Commerce and Focus Intent (Eric Pories).
According to Becky Sullivan, executive director of the FCCC/New River Gorge CVB, the Good News event has been ongoing since 2019 in multiple formats. 'We've celebrated in-person, virtually and through theater events,' said Sullivan. 'It's a way for the community to see all the good things that are happening in their area and how to get involved with the greater good by volunteering or organizing events.
'If you could use some Good News, smiles, ice cream, good company, prizes and fairies, I highly encourage you to attend this event at Smokey's on the Gorge on Tuesday, April 22 at 6 p.m. This event always makes my heart smile.'
According to Sullivan, speakers will share positive updates about what is happening in their community 'without sales pitches or politics.'
In addition to hearing about various community activities and initiatives, the event also gives individuals the chance to get involved in improving the county.
'Who knows? We may even have a few surprises up our sleeves this year,' she said.
Confirmed speakers include: Active Southern West Virginia, Adventures On The Gorge, Bud's Recycling, Fayette Co. Community Foundation, Fayette Co. Family Resource Network, Friends of New River Gorge, Greenbrier Environmental Group, Hubcap, Love Chiropractic, Mountain State Montessori, Mountaineer Challenge Academy, New River Conservancy, New River Youth Symphony & Chorus, Plateau Action Network, U15 World Wrestling Competitor, Wild Institute, WV State Parks, WVU Tech Upward Bound and Young Life.
