Victim sustains injuries after two people break into Peoria home
The Peoria Police Department is searching for a pair of men who allegedly broke into a home early Sunday morning and injured one of the residents. Police said that at 4:14 a.m., they received a ShotSpotter alert of nine rounds fired in the 300 block of East Corrington Avenue. While officers were investigating, a man approached them saying he was the victim of a home invasion in the 2800 block of North Missouri Avenue. Here's what to know According to the man, a pair of unknown males wearing ski masks broke into his home by kicking in the front door. One of them pointed a gun at him before hitting him in the face with it. The victim sustained minor injuries. Eventually, the pair left the home, fired shots into the air and fled on foot. No further information has been made available about the suspects. Police: 12-year-old boy seriously injured in Peoria shooting
A 12-year-old boy was hospitalized with serious injuries Wednesday night after a shooting in central Peoria. The Peoria Police Department said at 6:09 p.m., they received a report of a person shot in the 1800 block of North Lehman Road. Upon arrival, officers found the boy with a gunshot wound to the stomach. They began life-saving measures on him before he was transported to a hospital. No information has been made available on a suspect, and police are continuing to investigate. Woman shot and critically injured in Downtown Peoria, police say
An 18-year-old woman was shot and critically injured Tuesday afternoon in Downtown Peoria. Police were called at about 3:19 p.m. to the 100 block of Southwest Water Street on a report of a female shot, according to Peoria Police Department spokesperson Semone Roth. When officers arrived, they located the victim with an apparent gunshot wound. The woman was transported to a local hospital in critical condition. Those believed to be involved with the shooting are in police custody, and police are not looking for other suspects at this time, according to Roth. Pekin woman identified as person killed in Downtown Peoria shooting
Kenadee Wallenfang, 18, of Pekin, has been identified as the woman killed in Downtown Peoria on Tuesday, according to Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood. Wallenfang, who was shot on the 100 Block of SW Water Street near the Peoria riverfront, was pronounced brain dead Wednesday at OSF HealthCare Saint Francis Medical Center, roughly 24 hours after she was shot, according to Harwood. She was "aggressively treated" in the hospital's intensive care unit in a "stable yet vulnerable position," Harwood said. She was pronounced brain dead at 5:15 p.m., according to Harwood. She had been shot at 3:19 p.m. on Tuesday. All people believed to be involved in the shooting are in police custody, according to the Peoria Police Department. Wallenfang was a registered organ donor and some of her organs will be used for transplants. An autopsy will take place after the transplant process, Harwood said. Attempted kidnapping suspect killed by Peoria Police, PD says
The Brief An unidentified man was hurt in a Peoria officer-involved shooting on Thursday, June 5. It happened near Thunderbird Road and 87th Avenue, the police department said. Police say they responded to the neighborhood for reports of a kidnapping. PEORIA, Ariz. - An attempted kidnapping suspect was shot and killed by Peoria Police on Thursday night, the department said. What we know The police department said it happened near Thunderbird Road and 87th Avenue on June 5. "We responded to a call shortly after 6:45 p.m. for a male subject who was allegedly attempting to take a female, kidnap the female, an adult female. She was, at the time, pushing a baby stroller with a small child in the stroller. According to witnesses, the subject attempted to take the child from the female, at which time she FaceTimed her husband. Her husband came to the scene. Apparently, the suspect was chased down the street, down 87th Lane and west Pershing Avenue. At that time, officers were responding to the call. Officers contacted the suspect, some sort of altercation took place and an officer-involved shooting occurred," Peoria Police Sgt. Araceli Montes said. She clarified that witnesses stated it appears the target of the kidnapping was the child in the stroller. As for the suspect, he was taken to the hospital where he died from his injuries. An officer was taken to the hospital for precautionary reasons. "The officer is OK," Sgt. Montes said. She said the suspect didn't know the woman, saying they were strangers to each other. The child inside the stroller is OK. Dig deeper The woman's husband and a neighbor tracked the suspect down and cornered him in a cul-de-sac until police got there, Sgt. Montes said. She doesn't know if they had weapons of their own. What we don't know Peoria Police didn't provide details on whether or not the suspect had a weapon. No names have been released in this case.
