Meghan Markle Had 'Absolutely No Compromise' on Quality With As Ever
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Meghan Markle's lifestyle brand has been selling out in minutes because she is taking time to increase stock without sacrificing quality, a source told Newsweek. As Ever is already producing products, including jams, flower sprinkles, and tea, at a "significant scale," and the same will apply to her first wine, a Napa Valley rosé, to be launched on July 1. Meghan's first product run sold out in minutes in April, and she recently said on the Aspire with Emma Grede podcast that another instant sell-out would be frustrating to customers ahead of the second run in June. The company's online shop was then inundated with half a million page views in the week it launched the second batch of products, and completely sold out again. Meghan Markle/Instagram Meghan Markle's As Ever Supply Chain A source told Newsweek that Meghan was determined not to sacrifice quality and taste, which has meant it has taken time to increase supply. "The supply chain is constantly changing as the business is growing, as is very normal for any business that's trying to scale," they said. "The critical thing is maintaining the quality of the product, and sure, you can just go to any bottling plant and anyone who is growing raspberries anywhere in the country and get it done really quickly. "The reason it's taking time is because there's been absolutely no compromise on the quality, and the ingredients, and the flavor. "The rate at which the product seems to sell out regardless of the scale and the numbers its proving very difficult but that's a great problem to have." Claims on social media that Meghan has deliberately limited the quantities to ensure a sell-out run are "just complete nonsense," the source told Newsweek. "We're talking significant scale." Meghan Markle's Tea Supplier Last week, the British press accused Meghan's brand of hiking prices after it was revealed that the company The Republic of Tea supplied her teas. The Republic of Tea sells its own line for less than half the price of Meghan's. A source told Newsweek that As Ever's hibiscus tea was a different blend and also had more expensive packaging. "The hibiscus tea that they sell and the hibiscus tea that she sells, sourced from them, is different. It's a different blend. Her tea is an entirely unique, bespoke blend," they said. "If you look at the way it is packaged up, there are lots of differences. The packaging and the production that As Ever uses is more expensive than the stuff Tea Republic uses." As Ever sells three types of tea for $12 each: Lemon Ginger, Hibiscus, and Peppermint. Each set includes 12 tea bags in a metal tin. The Republic of Tea charges $14.50 for 36 bags of hibiscus tea in a metal tin. Meghan Markle's As Ever Rosé Wine Newsweek has been told the duchess sourced her first wine using grapes from the vineyards of Fairwinds Estate. The Napa Valley rosé is bottled at the Kunde Family Winery in California. Meghan was particularly eager to support Fairwinds because it was one of the vineyards ravaged by wildfires in the region five years ago. "In 2020, there were the massive, massive fires that ripped through Napa Valley," the source told Newsweek. "Fairwinds was one of those vineyards, and they're still feeling the effects today. "It caused over $15 million worth of damage and the duchess and the duke have both contributed significantly to businesses that have been impacted and affected." The wine launches on Tuesday, July 1, and the As Ever team predicts demand will be high again. "This is her first foray, but I'm sure there will be the naysayers and the usual suspects out there who will claim that she's only bottled 50 bottles," the source told Newsweek. "That is definitely not the case." "It's an entirely bespoke, entirely unique, curated blend. She spent months and months and months testing and tasting and letting her friends do testing and tasting and sampling, giving notes back. She's put a lot of love and care into it," they said. 5 movies like 'Straw' to stream right now
A mother's love might just be the most powerful weapon there is. If hell hath no fury like a woman scorned, crank that up to 11 when a mom's protecting her child. Tyler Perry's "Straw" dives into the crime thriller genre and packs in as many maternal gut punches as it does literal ones. After its release on June 6, the Netflix original skyrocketed up the top 10 movie list and holds the No. 1 spot as of writing. The intense psychological thriller is just the latest of Perry's hits for the platform. Taraji P. Henson stars as a single mom who can't seem to catch a break. Janiyah is just trying to cash a check at the bank so she can buy her sick daughter's medicine — except everything that can go wrong does and suddenly she's in a full-on hostage situation. Like so many mothers in this genre, Janiyah will do whatever it takes to care for her child. Looking for more thrillers with rage-fueled moms? From "Peppermint" to "Panic Room," here are five movies like "Straw." The 2018 film 'Peppermint' is basically 'Straw" if you double the body count. Grief-stricken mothers are just as fiery as moms actively fighting for their kids. Given that they basically have nothing to lose, action moms who lose a child are ready to savagely dish out the pain to the guilty parties. In 'Peppermint,' Riley's (Jennifer Garner) daughter and husband are gunned down. After the justice system fails to live up to its name, Riley disappears for five years. She returns with a fiery vengeance. The catch? She's now a trained killer. While 'Straw' is grounded in moral ambiguity, 'Peppermint' is more about the stylized vigilante carnage vibes. The movie turns raw grief into unfiltered rage, exploring the lengths a mother will go to avenge their child. In Riley's case? It's pretty damn far. Watch on AMC Plus Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips. The dark, rainy forest setting in 2022's 'Lou' is a far cry from the bank location of "Straw." However, the movies could basically be cousins, sharing a similarly bleak tone. 'Lou' hits the same emotionally-charged nuances as 'Straw' — just with a few more knives. In 'Lou,' Hannah (Jurnee Smollett) is out of options when her daughter is kidnapped. During her plight to save her daughter, she has no one left to turn to. That is, until a reclusive loner named Lou (Allison Janney) reluctantly saves the day. As it turns out, she's CIA-trained. While 'Straw' centers on a mother taking things into her own hands, Hannah gets by with a little help from her reluctant new "friend." Between generational trauma and getting screwed over by the system, Hannah and Janiyah would be fast friends. Watch on Netflix Being trapped with your kids during a home invasion is bad enough, but imagine having to watch it from the outside. That's precisely what Shaun (Gabrielle Union) contends with in the aptly-titled 2018 movie "Breaking In.' Not only are Shaun's kids trapped, but they're held hostage by burglars inside a high-tech fortress. Yet that's not enough to keep Shaun from her kids; they need to break out, so she decides to break in. Shaun scales walls, dodges bullets, and dishes out rage-fueled ass-kickings to rescue her kids — all without backup (not that she needs any). Everyone who underestimates her is very quickly humbled. Rent/buy on Amazon or Apple When a heist meets a mother's revenge story, you've got the makings of 'Set it Off.' The film follows T.T. (Kimberly Elise), a struggling single mom who feels abandoned by a system that's set up to watch her fail. T.T. doesn't see any other options when she and her friends turn to bank robbery to survive. Much like 'Straw,' the 1996 movie hinges on the characters' desperation. If you ask them, when society shuts the door on you, it's time to break the damn thing down — with shotguns. Plenty of bullets take center stage, but heavy emotion and a relatable feeling of hopelessness are the real main characters. The cast of the F. Gary Gray-directed movie includes Queen Latifah (Cleo), Jada Pinkett Smith (Stony), and Vivica A. Fox (Frankie). Rent/buy on Amazon or Apple David Fincher's 2002 movie 'Panic Room' is a masterclass on the impact of simmering tension and desperation. Meg (Jodie Foster) and her diabetic daughter Sarah (Kristen Stewart) get trapped in a supposedly impenetrable panic room by a couple of not-so-bright burglars. As far as settings go, 'Panic Room' is simplistic in design, as much of the movie takes place in a small, enclosed area. Yet that only amplifies the tension. Meg's primal fight to keep her daughter alive is as stressful for audiences as it is for Meg. Not only are they fearing for their lives at the hands of intruders, but Sarah's lack of insulin is also a potent threat. While 'Straw' is all about moral complexity, 'Panic Room' is a raw, stripped-down depiction of survival instincts and a mother's protection. Meg declares war on the attackers, which is certainly something Janiyah can relate to in 'Straw.' Rent/buy on Amazon or Apple

How Jinkx Monsoon Redefines Broadway On Her Own Terms
NEW YORK, NEW YORK - MAY 16: Jinkx Monsoon attends the 2025 Drama League Awards at The Ziegfeld ... More Ballroom on May 16, 2025 in New York City. (Photo by Valerie Terranova/FilmMagic) With Pride month only a couple days away, we're reminded of queer visibility across platforms and industries. Broadway is leading the charge with some of the most beloved alumnae of 'RuPaul's Drag Race.' Despite not winning the nomination, Jinkx Monsoon's eligibility for her role in 'Pirates! The Penzance Musical,' as an actress in a featured role in a musical category, was nothing short of historic. While drag queens and even other contestants on Drag Race have been featured on Broadway for years, with Jinkx even having a historic run as Mama Morton in 'Chicago' in 2023, this marked the first time that a drag queen was ever considered in a gendered acting category. Before Jinkx had her Broadway debut on Chicago, Peppermint, who competed and landed in the top four of season 9 of Drag Race, helped set the stage for her eligibility by being a trailblazer as the first openly trans woman to originate a principal Broadway role as Pythio in the Go Go's jukebox musical 'Head Over Heels' in 2018. This was historic, not only for her role being central to the show, but due to Peppermint proving that trans people were talented enough to be leads and not just in the chorus. SAN FRANCISCO, CA - APRIL 18: Cast members salute the audience during the curtain call for the ... More pre-Broadway engagement of "Head Over Heels" at the Curran Theatre on April 18, 2018 in San Francisco, California. (Photo by) In the past, people have debated on what roles gender non-conforming actors should be nominated for, and for Jinkx, a trans-femme nonbinary person, to considered for a tony nomination in the 'actress in a featured role' category, a category that reflects her identity, is already a huge deal. So often, institutions and voting boards have struggled to accommodate and reflect actors that exist outside of being cisgender or binary. Her seriously being considered alongside cisgender actresses serves as proof that gender expansive and non-conforming actors can and do co-exist in categories that have already been established. There doesn't need to be a complete overhaul of the awards or how they're delved out, gender trans and gender expansive people can exist right inside of those categories and there doesn't have to be any compromise or watering down of who they are to do it. There have been trans, genderfluid, and even gender non-conforming actors that have been nominated and even won Tony nominations, like with Alex Newell for their role in 'Shucked,' and L Morgan Lee for her role in 'A Strange Loop,' Jinkx places herself in a long list of performers that are setting a new standard for what it means to be trans and even a drag queen in the spotlight. Jinkx Monsoon and Peppermint show that trans and gender non-conforming people don't need separate systems or categories to showcase their talent. They serve as a reminder that existing as your authentic self not only serves as its own reward, but it also allows other people to take notice and feel inspired. While neither of them may have Tony nominations at the moment, they show that authenticity and visibility can serve as their reward and legacy. This is only the beginning for trans people on Broadway, and there's sure to be even opportunities for nominations for actresses like Jinkx in the future.
