SD to remove Peja baseless, attempt to divide Perak Bersatu, says Kader Maideen
PETALING JAYA: Claims that there is a statutory declaration (SD) calling for the replacement of the Perak chairman of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu), Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu, are baseless. The Taiping Bersatu division chief, Kader Maideen Hussain, said that it is not part of Bersatu's culture to use SDs for the appointment of state leadership body chiefs. He stated that the report claiming SDs exist from Perak Bersatu division chiefs to replace the current chairman is not true. 'The appointment of the chief is entirely the prerogative of Bersatu president, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, and any decision or appointment made by the President is fully supported without any doubt. 'The dissemination of false and baseless news from unnamed sources is deeply regrettable, and the motives of the news portal in question are questionable. We have no time for malicious attempts to divide unity within Perak Bersatu,' he said in a statement on Wednesday (April 30), reported by Malay daily, Sinar Harian. Kader Maideen added that Ahmad Faizal's leadership as Perak Bersatu chairman and Perak Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman has the full mandate from Muhyiddin, who is also the national chairman of PN. On Tuesday (April 29), a news portal claimed that 16 out of 24 Perak Bersatu division chiefs had signed an SD requesting a review or replacement of Ahmad Faizal's position as state chairman. The action reportedly stemmed from dissatisfaction over how Ahmad Faizal handled the request to switch seating arrangements between two Bersatu assemblymen — Datuk Zainol Fadzi Paharudin and Nadziruddin Mohamed Bandi — in the State Assembly. However, speaking to the daily, Ahmad Faizal chose not to comment on the alleged existence of the SD calling for his replacement. He took this approach, citing that the report merely quoted unnamed sources.

16 out of 24 Perak Bersatu division chiefs want Peja replaced?
The unnamed division chief said Perak Bersatu chief Ahmad Faizal Azumu's actions had 'shamed' party president Muhyiddin Yassin. PETALING JAYA : The alleged turmoil in Perak Bersatu over a request for a change to the seating of its assemblymen in the state legislative assembly appears to have worsened, with statutory declarations (SD) purportedly calling for the replacement of chapter chief Ahmad Faizal Azumu. According to a Bersatu division chief who did not wish to be named, the SDs were issued by 16 of the 24 chiefs who did not agree with the way Faizal had asked Sungai Manik assemblyman Zainol Fadzi Paharudin to swap seats with Changkat Jong assemblyman Nadziruddin Bandi. 'The SDs call for Faizal's position to be reviewed, or for him to be replaced by another leader. 'Many disagree with the (seating change) move because they were not informed before the official request was made in the assembly. 'The letters was given to Bersatu deputy president Hamzah Zainudin last week. Now we wait for further instructions,' he told FMT, adding that Faizal's actions had 'shamed' party president Muhyiddin Yassin. Faizal, the Perak Perikatan Nasional chairman, previously said the request was made because Nadziruddin had recently been appointed as Perak Bersatu secretary, replacing Zainol. However, some party members claimed the move was aimed at positioning Nadziruddin to take over as acting opposition leader, following the six-month suspension of PAS's Razman Zakaria. Hamzah, who is understood to have been entrusted with handling the matter, has rejected claims that the issue points to divisions within the party. FMT has reached out to Hamzah's aide for comment.

Hamzah tasked with cooling Perak Bersatu tensions over seat-swapping bid
Published on: Tuesday, April 22, 2025 Published on: Tue, Apr 22, 2025 By: Minderjeet Kaur, FMT Text Size: Bersatu deputy president Hamzah Zainudin has been assigned by the party president to resolve any dispute that may have arisen in the Perak chapter. PETALING JAYA: Bersatu deputy president Hamzah Zainudin has been tasked with alleviating tensions in Perak Bersatu after a seat-swapping request in the state assembly, perceived as part of a power struggle for the role of acting opposition leader. A Bersatu leader said several assemblymen and division leaders were unhappy with state chief Ahmad Faizal Azumu for sending a letter to the state assembly requesting that Sungai Manik assemblyman Zainol Fadzi Paharudin swap seats with Changkat Jong assemblyman Nadziruddin Bandi. The assemblymen and division leaders said they were not consulted on the move, which should have been discussed as it involved a major role in Perak. The Bersatu leader said party president Muhyiddin Yassin had specifically assigned his deputy, Hamzah, to manage the dispute. 'Muhyiddin has asked Hamzah to look into the problem,' the leader told FMT. Faizal, also known as Peja, said the request for a swap was made because Nadziruddin was recently promoted to Perak Bersatu secretary, a post which Zainol had relinquished. However, several Bersatu divisions saw this as allowing Nadziruddin to take over Zainol's role as acting opposition leader, following the six-month suspension of PAS's Razman Zakaria. Zainol is seated next to Razman in the legislative assembly. The request was rejected by assembly speaker Zahir Abdul Khalid, although he agreed to move Nadziruddin to the front row, placing him two seats away from Zainol. Caught by surprise Ipoh Timur Bersatu chief Fadhli Ismail said he and other division leaders were caught by surprise when they found out about Faizal's letter, which he said was sent unilaterally. Fadhli said Zainol should remain the acting opposition leader in Razman's absence given his seniority in the party and as an assemblyman. Zainol, a four-term assemblyman, served on the state executive council for three terms and is also a Bersatu Supreme Council member. On the other hand, Nadziruddin is a first-term assemblyman who was only recently appointed as Perak Bersatu secretary. Kuala Sepetang assemblyman Ahmad Man said neither Perak Bersatu nor Perikatan Nasional had called a meeting to discuss the move for the two to swap seats. 'This is a state assembly matter, not just a party issue,' he said, adding that PAS assemblymen were also initially in the dark about the proposed seat change. Another division chief who declined to be named said party decisions involving leadership roles must be communicated clearly and discussed beforehand. * Follow us on Instagram and join our Telegram and/or WhatsApp channel(s) for the latest news you don't want to miss. * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news?
