Form 3 student suffers seizures after vaping in school toilet

KANGAR: A Form Three student from a school on the outskirts of Kangar was rushed to Hospital Tuanku Fauziah earlier today (April 21) after reportedly suffering a seizure, believed to have been triggered by vaping. The incident occurred at 9.35am when the student, accompanied by two friends, left the classroom without the teacher's permission during an English examination. Perlis Education director Rose Aza Che Arifin said that while another teacher had taken over invigilating the exam, she witnessed the student being carried back into the classroom by his friends. "The student was unconscious and foaming at the mouth. The teacher immediately alerted the school administration, and an ambulance was called to transport the student to Hospital Tuanku Fauziah," she said. Preliminary investigations revealed that the student had been vaping in the school toilet with friends. However, the specific type of vape device used has yet to be identified by medical staff. Rose Aza said that the student was currently receiving treatment at the hospital, and that the school's discipline teacher and counsellor had been instructed to visit the student to assist in the ongoing inquiry. "Our department has notified the student's family and coordinated an emergency medical response. The school has also submitted an initial report to the Student Affairs Unit under the Student Development Sector at the Perlis Education Department," she said. This marks the second known case of vape misuse involving school students. Last year, a secondary school student sustained injuries after falling from the roof of a second-floor corridor while allegedly under the influence of vaping.
