Oman reaffirms full support for maritime navigation safety, security

New York: The Sultanate of Oman has affirmed its full support for the efforts of the UN Security Council and international initiatives aimed at addressing maritime challenges and threats, calling for enhanced regional and international cooperation and sustained coordination to uphold navigation safety and maritime security. This came during Oman's address delivered by First Secretary HH Sayyid Shihab bin Harib Al Said, member of Oman's Permanent Delegation to the United Nations in New York, at the Security Council's high-level session titled 'Maritime Security: Prevention, Innovation, and International Cooperation to Address Emerging Challenges." The session was held as part of discussions on the agenda item 'Maintenance of International Peace and Security." Oman emphasized the importance it places on maritime security, given its natural resources, geographical factors, and its strategic location overlooking the Strait of Hormuz—a vital passage for international trade, maritime navigation, and global seaborne oil exports. Oman's statement highlighted national efforts to enhance maritime navigation safety and security, including initiatives that led to a ceasefire agreement between the United States of America and the relevant authorities in Sana'a, Yemen, ensuring freedom of navigation and the uninterrupted flow of international commercial shipping in the Red Sea.

Cairo hosts Arab emergency Summit to discuss Palestinian Cause

Cairo - Saba: Cairo is hosting an Arab emergency summit on Tuesday, to discuss developments in the Palestinian issue amid escalating tensions following US President Donald Trump's plan to displace Palestinians from the Gaza Strip. A number of Arab leaders have flocked to the Egyptian capital to participate in the emergency Arab summit, including Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and Iraqi President Abdul Latif Rashid. The Bahraini Royal Court also announced yesterday, Monday, that King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, the current president of the Arab Summit, will leave the kingdom, heading to Egypt to head the Bahraini delegation participating in the summit. Regarding the announcement of Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune and Tunisian President Kais Saied of their absence from attending the emergency Arab summit, Egyptian media quoted an informed Egyptian source as saying that there are a number of countries, whether in this summit or previous summits, that have made it a habit to send representatives of presidents and kings, and this did not reduce the participation of those countries because the representatives express the positions of their countries just like the presidents, even if the president's representative is absent from some meetings held at the leaders' level, but in the end what was agreed upon is presented to the closing session of the summit to take a collective position on it from all participating delegations. According to the agenda of the emergency summit sent by the Permanent Delegation of Egypt to the Secretariat of the Arab League, the reception of the heads of the participating delegations begins today, Tuesday, at three in the afternoon Cairo time, and the opening session begins at four-thirty, after the Ramadan Iftar banquet held in honor of the participating delegations, a closed session is held, then a closing session, and the summit ends at eight-thirty in the evening with the announcement of the final statement and the decisions that were agreed upon.
