Driver dies, teen injured in Ranau crash

RANAU: A 42-year-old man died and another was injured after the Perodua Kancil they were travelling in collided with a palm fruit-laden lorry along KM45 of the Ranau-Telupid Road on Sunday. The Fire and Rescue Department said the car, believed to be heading towards Ranau, had veered into the opposite lane before the crash at about 1.15pm. The driver, Sylvester Pius Gulmit, was confirmed dead while receiving treatment at the Paginatan Health Clinic. His 18-year-old passenger sustained minor injuries, including scratches and bruises. Missing driver found safe after car crash near Kulim
KULIM: A driver who went missing after his car skidded and caught fire near Batu Puteh-Labu Besar road has been found safe. The 28-year-old victim, Mohd Solehin Abd Latif, was discovered walking along the roadside early this morning. Kulim police chief Supt Zulkifli Azizan said the man was spotted by a passerby at 8 am. 'A 39-year-old man reported seeing someone in underwear walking towards Labu Besar. The SAR team confirmed it was the missing victim,' he told Bernama. The driver was found 1 km from the crash site with only minor scratches. He was taken to Sungai Kob police station before being reunited with his family. The search ended at 10 am. Earlier reports stated the victim's Perodua Kancil was found burnt in a ditch at 5.30 am yesterday. His wallet, ID, and phone were recovered at the scene. Family members had searched nearby hospitals but found no trace of him. - Bernama

KULIM, July 26 — A crash victim who was reported missing after the car he was driving skidded and caught fire on Jalan Batu Puteh-Labu Besar near here yesterday, was found safe early today. Kulim police chief Supt Zulkifli Azizan said the victim, identified as Mohd Solehin Abd Latif, 28, was found on the roadside in Batu Puteh heading towards Labu Besar. 'At 8 am today, while police were patrolling the crash site, a 39-year-old man reported that a man clad in only his underwear was seen on the roadside walking towards Labu Besar. 'Based on the information, the search and rescue (SAR) team went straight to the location of the discovery and confirmed that the man was indeed the victim they were looking for,' he said when contacted by Bernama today. According to him, the crash victim was found at 8.40 am, having wandered off about 1km from the incident site. 'The victim's condition was stable, with only minor scratches on his body. He was then taken to the Sungai Kob police station before being handed over to his family. The search was officially called off at 10 am,' he said. Earlier, the victim was reported missing after his Perodua Kancil car was involved in a crash and found burnt in a ditch on the roadside at 5.30 am yesterday. The victim was said to have driven out alone, and only his wallet, identity card and phone were found at the crash site. Missing man resurfaces after burnt car found in ditch
KULIM: A man reported missing after his car was found burnt in a ditch in Labu Besar yesterday has been found safe. The incident at 5.30am yesterday sparked a mystery when firefighters and police at the scene found the Perodua Kancil destroyed by fire, but its driver was missing. Kulim police chief Superintendent Zulkifli Azizan said the 28-year-old man was found by members of the public by the roadside, not far from the scene. The man was found without a shirt and only wearing trousers, in an exhausted state. "Based on the information, the search and rescue team immediately went to the location and confirmed that the man was the victim they were looking for. "The victim was found at 8.40am about 1km from the scene. "The victim is stable, with only minor scratches on his body. He was taken to the Sungai Kob police station to lodge a report," he said when contacted today. Zulkifli said the victim's family has since picked the man up to take him home.
