Veteran actress Sophia Ibrahim dies at 77

PETALING JAYA : Veteran actress Sophia Ibrahim died at the age of 77 at a private hospital in Ampang at 7.15pm today after an asthma attack.
The news of Sophia's death was confirmed by her son, Khairi Yaacob.
'This afternoon, my mother had a severe cough and difficulty breathing. I immediately took her to the (private medical centre),' Bernama reported him as saying.
Khairi said prayers for his mother would be held at Surau Al Hijrah at Bolton Park, Batu Caves, before burial at Raudhatul Sakinah Cemetery in Taman Batu Muda at about 11am tomorrow.
Sophia began her acting career at the age of 15 in the film Ragam P Ramlee, before starring in movies such as Dr Rushdi, Cinta 200 Ela, Pontianak Harum Sundal Malam, and Puteri Impian.
She was the eldest of 10 siblings in a family that included singer and actress Khadijah Ibrahim and the late singer and actor Latiff Ibrahim.
In August last year, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim had made a contribution to Sophia to ease her medical costs as she suffered from cataract.
