I cleared my local Asda of an £8 cleaning essential going for nearly 4x less – but trolls say I should ‘share' them

A BARGAIN hunter has come under fire after proudly showing off her mega haul of £2.50 cleaning essentials. Asda customer, Mandy Ward, was slammed after she cleared the shelves and filled the shopping trolley the boot to the brim with cut-price laundry products. 2 2 According to the thrifty shopper, the popular supermarket was running a deal which meant she only paid a mere £2.50 for the branded liquid detergent. The popular brand usually goes for an eye-watering £7.98 at the store, so Mandy managed to save nearly 4x the original price. In her post, the money-saving shopper explained she had spotted someone else raving about the epic deal on the Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK group. All chuffed with the monster haul, she said: ''Thank you so much to the person who posted about the Persil bottles for £2.50. ''It was only the blue one.'' She confessed to leaving the store with no more stock, writing: ''I cleared my Asda out (Boston). Will share with friends and family and the local food bank. ''The price on the shelf was still showing as £7.98, I used the Asda Scan & Go App to check the price which came up as £2.50,'' said Mandy who had bagged more than a dozen liquid detergents. 'Wow! Why clear them out' But while Mandy vowed to donate some of the cleaning essentials to help struggling households, the mega haul sparked fury amongst Facebook users. Since being shared online, the post has racked up close to 300 likes in less than 24 hours, with a further 249 people flooding to comments - where it was a mixed bag of reactions. Unilever to invest 80 million pounds in new fragrance facility

British fast-moving consumer goods giant Unilever is investing 80 million pounds to build in-house fragrance capabilities in the UK, including plans for a new state-of-the-art fragrance facility near Liverpool to develop 'leading-edge digital capabilities and to recruit and partner for the very best fragrance talent and expertise'. Plans for the new facility in Port Sunlight are described as 'a significant step in Unilever's global investment to build world-class in-house fragrance capabilities,' as it looks to accelerate growth and productivity through fragrance design and ingredient buying, whilst continuing to work closely with key global fragrance house partners. Fragrance, it states, plays a critical role in elevating the consumer experience and performance of everyday products, from shampoos and conditioners to skin moisturisers, body washes and deodorants, and in laundry and home cleaning. The new facility will include a fragrance research and innovation lab, a compounding facility where new fragrances are blended and developed, and evaluation suites where products are tested to assess performance and preference. The site will also be digitally enabled end-to-end, including robotics to blend fragrance oils and real-time data capture, enabling digital modelling, analytics and the use of AI to drive fragrance development. The move, subject to planning permission, will also integrate fragrance capabilities with consumer insights and product development processes. This will enable Unilever to bring fragrance innovation to their Home Care, Personal Care, and Beauty and Wellbeing brands, including Persil, Dove, Rexona (Sure in the UK) and TRESemmé, with 'greater speed and efficiency'. Richard Slater, chief research and development officer at Unilever, said in a statement: 'We are delighted to announce this significant investment to build a world-class fragrance house within Unilever. The investment includes a new state-of-the-art facility in Port Sunlight, which further expands our leading-edge R&D capabilities in the UK and drives our ambitious plans to build expertise, partnerships and innovation at scale. 'Our new fragrance facility and expert perfumers will enable us to bring fragrance insight and innovation to our brands at speed and, working with our partners, to reinvent how fragrances are created for consumer products, leveraging cutting-edge science along with AI and robotics.' It's part of a wider 300-million-pound investment package by Unilever in the UK across offices, research and development sites and factories in the next two years. Port Sunlight in the North West is Unilever's largest innovation site in the UK, where alongside two factories and two research and development labs, Unilever has also opened an Advanced Manufacturing Centre (AMC) and the Materials Innovation Factory (MIF), which was built in collaboration with the University of Liverpool.

Schwarzkopf-owner Henkel takes hit from weak US consumer sentiment

Germany's Henkel pointed to weaker consumer sentiment in North America as it reported a 1.0% fall in first-quarter sales on Thursday, below market expectations. Henkel has been grappling with weakness in industrial sectors such as automotive and electronics, alongside sluggish demand for personal and home care products amid subdued consumer spending. First-quarter sales in North America fell 3.4% organically to 1.43 billion euros. The region made up 28% of its sales last year. In March, Henkel said U.S. government decisions were hurting the North American market disproportionately. "The situation triggered by the tariff debate ... is naturally one that introduces significant volatility," CEO Carsten Knobel said, adding that consumer sentiment in the U.S. is problematic. Shares were trading down 0.44% at 1122 GMT, recovering losses after falling as much as 2.6% earlier. The consumer goods and adhesives maker's sales in the three months to March 31 fell to 5.24 billion euros ($5.92 billion) from 5.32 billion a year earlier, below analysts' average estimate of 5.32 billion euros according to a Vara Research poll. Sales in its adhesive technologies business, which also produces industrial adhesives for automotive, electronics and construction, grew 1.1% to 2.72 billion euros, despite a decline in the automotive segment. However, sales in its consumer brands business, which makes Persil detergent, Schwarzkopf hair care and Dial soap, fell 3.5% to 2.48 billion euros, hit by a downturn in the laundry care segment. Henkel confirmed its guidance for 2025, saying that to achieve the goal, it would focus on further optimising its portfolio of products in the consumer brands unit. Henkel has sold or discontinued brands and activities for total sales of slightly over 1 billion euros since the beginning of 2022, recently selling its retailer brands business in North America to an affiliate of First Quality Enterprises, LLC.
