Zamalek name Ayman El Ramady interim coach after Peseiro exit - Egyptian Football
Egyptian giants Zamalek appointed Ayman El Ramady as interim coach until the end of the current season, the club announced on Wednesday, following the departure of Portuguese manager José Peseiro. El Ramady replaces Peseiro, who left by mutual consent after a short spell in charge that saw the club eliminated from both the CAF Confederation Cup and the Egyptian League Cup. A veteran tactician, El Ramady, 60, guided many teams in the UAE since 2006 before debuting in the Egyptian Premier League with Aswan in 2022 and delivering outstanding performances in the 2022/2023 season. Joining the White Knights, he returns to the touchline after departing his post with Egyptian League club Ceramica Cleopatra last February. Peseiro, 65, was hired as Zamalek's coach on 14 February to become the team's third coach this season, succeeding Swiss coach Christian Gross, who was fired after a series of poor results. On Monday, Zamalek was held to a 2-2 draw by National Bank of Egypt in the fourth round of the league's final phase. This left them third in the standings with 40 points. Under Peseiro's guidance, Zamalek played 13 games in different competitions, winning six, drawing six, and losing the remaining one. El Ramady will coach Zamalek against his previous club, Ceramica Cleopatra, on Friday in the next round of the Egyptian Premier League. Coach Peseiro leaves Egypt's Zamalek after three months
-Zamalek ended Portuguese coach Jose Peseiro's contract by mutual consent, the Egyptian soccer club said on Wednesday, after less than three months in charge due to poor results. "An agreement has been reached between Zamalek and coach Jose Peseiro to mutually terminate the contract," the club said on Facebook. "We wish you the best in your future endeavours." Former Porto and Sporting Lisbon coach Peseiro, 65, joined Zamalek on February 14 to become only the fifth coach to lead both Egyptian rivals Zamalek and Al-Ahly. However, Zamalek, the defending champions, were eliminated from the CAF Confederation Cup and the Egyptian League Cup under Peseiro, and a poor run in the league saw them slip to third place, seven points adrift of leaders Pyramids. Peseiro has previously coached the national teams of Nigeria, Saudi Arabia and Venezuela, as well as the Saudi club Al-Hilal and United Arab Emirates' teams Al Wahda and Sharjah. Zamalek confident of beating Stellenbosch to CAF Confederation Cup semis: Coach Peseiro - Egyptian Football
Zamalek coach Jose Peseiro says his team is confident and well-prepared to win Tuesday's game against South Africa's Stellenbosch in the second leg of their CAF Confederation Cup quarterfinal. The Cairo giants were frustrated after hosts Stellenbosch held them to a 0-0 draw in the first leg on Wednesday. 'We will face an organized team. We are confident of ourselves and ready for the game. The team prepared seriously to achieve victory and reach the semis,' Peseiro said in the pre-match press conference on Tuesday. Zamalek will capitalize on their home advantage in the return leg in Cairo. According to the Portuguese coach, the team will work hard to avoid the mistakes of the first leg. 'We always work to improve the negative points in the trainings at both the striking and defensive levels. We delivered a good game at the defensive level against Stellenbosch and also in the recent cup game,' the Zamalek coach explained. 'We were not at our best striking shape in the first leg and we assess the performance to improve it and keep the team's organized shape,' he added. Peseiro finally highlighted that the South African opponent is a good and organized team, hailing their supremacy in counterattacks and set pieces. The winner between Zamalek and Stellenbosch will face the victor of the Masry-Simba clash in the semifinals. Preview: Zamalek coach Peseiro makes Confederation Cup debut against Stellenbosch - Egyptian Football
Zamalek's Portuguese coach, José Peseiro, will debut in the CAF Confederation Cup when his team face South Africa's Stellenbosch in the first leg of the tournament's quarterfinals on Wednesday. The 64-year-old Peseiro, who joined Zamalek in February, has enjoyed a perfect start in the Egyptian domestic competitions, leading the team to eight consecutive games without defeat. However, the match against Stellenbosch marks his first continental test with the defending Confederation Cup champions. Despite the absence of veteran midfielder Abdallah El-Said, sidelined with an injury and missed the trip to South Africa, Zamalek remains buoyed by their recent progression to the Egypt Cup semifinals. The team will also play without captain Mahmoud "Shikabala" Abdel-Razik, who is recovering from a knee injury. In addition, Moroccan left-back Mahmoud Bentayg did not travel with the squad after failing to secure a visa. Zamalek advanced to the Confederation Cup quarterfinals by topping Group D with 14 points, while Stellenbosch finished second in Group B with 9 points. The second leg will be held in Cairo on 9 April, with the winner to face the victor of the Masry-Simba clash in the semifinals. Peseiro is pinning his hopes on the influential Ahmed "Zizo" Sayed, who's been in stellar form, racking up eight goals and eight assists in 30 appearances this season. Peseiro will also rely on midfielders Mohamed Shehata, Nasser Maher, and Nasser Mansi to secure an away victory. On the other hand, Stellenbosch come into the match on the back of a loss to Magesi in the South African Premiership on Saturday. The South African side will depend on the attacking prowess of winger Devin Titus, who has scored 11 goals and provided six assists in 41 appearances this season. Additionally, attacking midfielder Andre de Jong from New Zealand could pose a significant threat to Zamalek's defence, having scored eight goals and registered four assists this season, including four in the Confederation Cup.
