Coronation Street legend in tears as wedding day 'ruined' ahead of soap exit

Coronation Street legend Dev Alahan (Jimmi Harkishin) broke down in tears after his wedding to Bernie Winter (Jane Hazlegrove) took a dramatic turn on the latest episode of the ITV soap Dev Alahan was left in tears after his wedding day went awry on Wednesday night's episode of Coronation Street. The Weatherfield businessman was set to tie the knot with Bernie Winter on the latest instalment of the ITV soap. ‌ But things didn't exactly go to plan when the bride-to-be was late and then collapsed on the spot as they were about to say their vows, and that was just the beginning of their troubles. It was set to be a flamboyant day full of bright colours and costumes at the Street's token restaurant, but ambulance had to be called when Bernie struggled to breathe and she was quickly whisked off to hospital. ‌ It soon transpired that Bernie had had an allergic reaction to the lilies that were in her wedding bouquet, and had been supplied by Preston's Petals. It comes after bosses confirmed that a Coronation Street legend will be returning to the cobbles after seven years away. ‌ While all this was going on, Debbie Webster (Sue Devaney) took it upon herself to entertain the congregation with a rendition of the Grease classic Hopelessly Devoted To You, and she then proposed to boyfriend Ronnie Bailey (Vinta Morgan). Meanwhile, Bernie (Jane Hazlegrove) eventually became the second Mrs Alahan when she and Dev said their vows as she sat in the hospital bed and she was discharged later that day. As viewers will know, Dev, who was previously married to the late Sunita Alahan (Shobna Gulati), had been kept in the dark about the fact that his son Aadi (Adam Hussain) has ran up £6,000 worth of debt in the shop, which he was left in charge of when his dad took a break a few months ago. But Dev managed to get it out of his son later in the episode. ‌ Furious, Dev, who has been played by Jimmi Harkishin since 1999, told him: "You are pathetic. Why did you keep all that from me? All those debts. I purposely kept my eyes and hands of the books so that you could prove yourself. And now, you are the definition of a failure. Shame on you! And you've brought shame on me." However, Bernie was aware of just how much her long-lost grandson Brody Michaelis (Ryan Mulvey) had been involved in the situation having staged a robbery as a failed insurance scam, and she had spent weeks trying to cover things up. Earlier in the day, Brody and Aadi had a violent confrontation after it became apparent that he had held her up in getting to the venue on time as he asked her for advice on how to take care of his sisters now that both of his parents are in prison. ‌ After Bernie overheard the confrontation between Dev and Aadi, she explained to Dev: "Two words. Insurance scam. Aadi got Brody to stage a robbery, and when that went belly-up, I tried to help. I got you to bring the wedding forward so we could get our hands on Aunti Rani's cash. I thought we could pay off the debt that way. " As viewers will know, Aunty Rani (Josephine Lloyd-Welcome) was due to present Dev and Bernie with thousands for the wedding, and Bernie had hoped to use most of the money to pay off Aadi's debts whilst keeping it all from her significant other. Deciding that now was the time to tell the truth, she told Dev: "I did the wedding on the cheap so there'd be a bit left over, otherwise, you'd be head-to-toe in Saville Row." In disbelief, Dev simply shook his head and muttered "No, no..." as he walked straight out of number seven. ‌ He headed over to the now-empty Bistro, where Bernie followed soon after. She told him: "I thought I could fix everything without you knowing, keep everything sweet between father and son. I've ruined our wedding, haven't I?" Dev was on the verge of tears as he put his head in his hands, and he begged his now-wife that the lies had to stop. She promised this would be the case, and the pair finally got to have their first dance together as husband and wife. But just moments later, Brody confronted Aadi on the Street and warned him: "Don't ever get in my face like that again because I won't be held responsible for my actions. I know we're like relatives now but stay as far away from me as possible. Laters." Fans will know that Aadi is set to leave the soap, but no exit date has been announced as yet. Could he face prison, or might he be kicked out by his relatives? Viewers certainly think so and that somehow it's all linked. They have wondered if a sad exit is on the cards as he burns bridges with those on the cobbles. One fan posted online: "Aadi is out of his depth with this robbery and love life. Everything is getting on top of him," as another predicted: "I wonder if this will be when Aadi exits the show?"

Coronation Street confirms who Lauren's blackmailer is in early ITVX release

This article contains spoilers for tonight's Coronation Street, which has not yet aired on TV but is available to watch now on ITVX. Lauren Bolton (Cait Fitton) has been left terrified in recent Coronation Street scenes after being targeted by an anonymous blackmailer. The teen mum found herself in trouble after being roped into Betsy Swain's (Sydney Martin) revenge on Tracy Barlow (Kate Ford) when she jumped into the Preston's Petals van. When Betsy urged her to put her foot down and drive away, Lauren panicked and did as she was told, before promptly crashing into a skip at the precinct. Terrified that this would land her in trouble with the police and therefore put her future with son Frankie at risk, Lauren was relieved when Betsy agreed to take the full blame. However, it soon became clear that she hadn't got away with it as easily as she'd thought, when someone began texting her from an unknown number claiming to know what she'd done. Things only escalated further when she realised that her blackmailer had photographic evidence that could get her into serious trouble. The ordeal left her completely paranoid, and in tonight's episode she even began to suspect best friend Bobby Crawford (Jack Carroll). When the blackmailer sent another message asking for £500, Lauren confided her fears in Betsy and together they came up with a plan to lure out the culprit. More Trending After leaving an envelope full of newspaper in their agreed hiding spot, Betsy and Lauren waited out of sight to catch the blackmailer in the act. It wasn't long before the person responsible had arrived to collect the cash, and the girls were shocked to realise that it was Jake Windass (Bobby Bradshaw)! View More » With the blackmailer discovered, Lauren managed to delete the evidence he had of her driving the van and put the whole situation behind her. How Sorcha Bakery became Oban's must-visit vegan spot

A vegan bakery has opened in Oban – and thanks to a loyal legion of followers the Albany Terrace shop is selling out every day. After serving superb food at The Puffer on Easdale island for many years, Keren Cafferty decided she wanted to devote her time and energy to a new project. And so she opened the Sorcha Bakery – the Gaelic word sorcha means light and radiance – a vegan venture with a strong emphasis on local and ethically sourced ingredients. Keren said: 'I have been a vegetarian for many years, but I realised that I was making a compromise that did not sit with what I believed about food, so I became vegan. 'For many years, my husband Mike and I owned The Puffer on Easdale and during Covid we made bread and bakery items for the local community. 'It was very difficult for people in the area to get bread, because rural and remote areas were the last in the chain to get basic food items. 'So I started supplying local businesses with my products – and they were very well received.' When new owners were found for The Puffer, Keren and Mike made the decision to move off the island for a new life in Scammadale Glen. Keren was for many years one of the co-organisers of the World Stone Skimming Championships and was immersed in island life – so it was quite the change. With ideas for a new business swirling in her head, Keren says she wanted to 'do something lighter, brighter and more compassionate' with the bakery. And despite nerves over how a vegan business would be welcomed, she's been delighted by the response. As the business grew, Keren needed space to bake and created one at the back of the couple's house. 'When I made the shift from vegetarian to vegan, it happened naturally, and I was still making the same products but using plant-based products. 'A funny thing happened with our Sheese scones (Sheese is a vegan version of cheese) as one business owner didn't know they were now plant-based and wondered why I was not able to spell cheese.' During the Clipper race that visited Oban in 2024, Keren noticed that there was an ideal space in the town to open a pop-up bakery. She said: 'There is a left luggage space on the North Pier, so I asked the owner if she would let us have a pop-up, and she enthusiastically agreed. 'So we opened, and honestly we could not keep up with the demand.' Over the last few months, the bakery has gone from strength-to-strength. And people know they need to get up early if they want some of Sorcha Bakery's bread or one of its cinnamon buns. As the business grew, Keren decided that it was time to open her own shop in town. She approached the owners of the former Petals florist shop, opposite the cinema building at the top of George Street, and a permanent base took shape. Keren says 80% or more of her customers do not follow a plant-based diet, and simply love her bakes. Sorcha Bakery is open two days a week, on Friday and Saturday from 10am until 2.30pm, with coffee and waffles available until closing. Bread, including Scottish organic sourdough, granary, white loaves and rolls, along with a savoury selection of vegan haggis rolls, vegan sausage and Keren's own red onion marmalade can be found on the shelves. Doughnuts, bostocks, brownies, bakewell tarts, cinnamon buns, focaccia and pizza focaccia, are served up alongside their cardamom buns, scones and two new offerings of sandwiches and waffles. With coffee from Argyll Coffee Roasters served up with oat Mylk, people can even enjoy a hot drink with their lunch. Sorcha has sold out every day since it opened.

Onslow Memorial partners with Daisy Foundation recognize nurses and support staff

ONSLOW COUNTY, N.C. (WNCT) — Onslow Memorial is recognizing its nurses and support staff in a new way. This is the first year they will be giving away Daisy and Petals Awards. The Daisy Foundation is a national nonprofit created to thank nurses for making a difference in patients' lives. New or old patients, family members and staff can nominate someone on the hospital's website. Daisy Awards are specifically for nurses while Petals are for other teammates that help with care. Winners will get a certificate, a daisy award pin and a healers touch sculpture. 'It's important to have this Daisy Award recognition program here because we do want to highlight our nurses. We want to make sure that they know that we see them in our patients, see them because they do so much for our patients, they do so much for our organization,' said Victoria Morales, PR and Marketing Manager for Onslow Memorial. This is something they will now be doing quarterly and they will choose winners in April. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
