Robinson may have experienced a mental health crisis when he disappeared, authorities addedHuman remains discovered in Alabama last June have been positively identified as belonging to a man from Texas who went missing in 2022, authorities said.
The Cleburne County Sheriff's Office previously announced that officials responded to a report of possible human remains in a wooded area off Interstate 20 near the 194-mile marker on June 22. Deputies arrived at the scene and confirmed the discovery. At the time, the sheriff's office said that no foul play was suspected.
Then, on Wednesday, Aug. 6, more than a month after the discovery, the sheriff's office said in an update that authorities believe the identity of the remains was Peter Alexander Robinson, of Austin, Texas, as they were processing the scene. They learned that Robinson was listed as missing around December 2022, and the vehicle he was traveling in was towed from the same area on Interstate 20 in January 2023.
The remains were sent to the Alabama Department of Forensic Science for examination. The department later contacted investigators and obtained Robinson's dental records, the sheriff's office said.
'After conducting a thorough forensic analysis (including both dental and DNA comparisons) the Medical Examiner officially confirmed the human remains located at the scene belonged to Peter Alexander Robinson,' authorities said. Robinson's family was later contacted about the identification.
The sheriff's office noted that Robinson may have been experiencing a mental health crisis when he vanished. Robinson's cause of death was not immediately made clear.
'We want to take this moment to remind everyone that mental health struggles are real and can affect anyone,' Cleburne County Sheriff Jon Daniel said. 'If you or someone you know is struggling, please reach out. Help is available.'
In addition to the departments and agencies involved in the case, the sheriff's office thanked the observant individual who reached out to law enforcement upon the discovery of the remains.
