Ex-NFL star Akbar Gbajabiamila brutally loses TV job after only one season on Good Morning Football

Former defensive end Akbar Gbajabiamila is reportedly leaving 'Good Morning Football' after just one season on the flagship morning show of NFL Network. The former Raiders, Chargers and Dolphins star, 46, spent seven years with NFL Network between 2012 and 2019 before joining 'The Talk' on CBS. Gbajabiamila returned to covering football in the fall of 2024, as part of major changes to the NFL Network cast. He was brought in to replace Jason McCourty. But Gbajabiamila last appeared on GMFB on February 14. Since then, a rotating cast of guests has taken his place on the show. And, according to Deadline, the 46-year-old will not be returning. Gbajabiamila still hosts 'American Ninja Warrior' on NBC. He returned to NFL Network after GMFB moved its primary studio from New York to Los Angeles, with Manti Te'o among the new faces to appear in recent months. NFL Network recently lost Peter Schrager, too. He joined ESPN, where he will appear regularly on shows including 'First Take' and 'The Pat McAfee Show'. Gbajabiamila gave no indication that he was leaving on his now-farewell appearance a few days after the Super Bowl. 'This was my first season, and it was such a cool experience to be able to go through this entire process and now to get to this point and get the week off,' he said. 'I'm going to Florida too with (Schrager). But I'm only going to be there for a couple of days, and I'm going to hop over to the Bahamas. But, it's been real.'

Steelers-Aaron Rodgers Information Spells Good News for Will Howard

Will Howard, the Pittsburgh Steelers' sixth-round (No. 185) pick, signed a four-year contract on Friday. He aspires to be their next man under center, and Peter Schrager's insights only reinforce that expectation. In the Pat McAfee Show on Thursday, Schrager revealed that veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers has not confirmed any deal with the Steelers despite what management is trying to portray. Advertisement 'Aaron Rodgers has been very up front with the Steelers and he was very up front with the Giants." He said. "The Steelers are willing to wait and I don't think Pittsburgh knows more now than they did before the draft.' If Rodgers doesn't choose the Steelers, Howard could see game action this season, something that would have been complicated with Rodgers' presence. "These teams have been given the choice to wait on Rodgers. Now the Giants, they pivoted. They signed Jameis, then they signed Russ, and then they drafted Jaxson Dart." Schrager said. "The Steelers, however, made a great meeting. It all went well. He told them the same exact thing. And the Steelers' decision was to go back into their facility and say, all right, we're willing to wait. So this is the price they're paying a little bit." Advertisement "I don't think there's this assumed handshake would've announced it. They would've signed him. They would've done it. I still think he's[Rodgers] deliberating." He added. There's been speculation that Aaron Rodgers is getting married, and that's why his decision has been delayed, after a wedding ring was spotted on his finger. But nothing is definitive; even on the show, no one had an answer. As things stand, Will Howard has a strong chance to learn the playbook, climb the depth chart, and potentially start games in the Steelers' upcoming season. Packers, Jaire Alexander, A]are Reportedly 'In a Good Place'

Jaire Alexander has proven himself to be one of the premier cornerbacks in the NFL when completely healthy. However, Alexander has been unable to stay on the field over the past few seasons. On Thursday, an NFL insider who spoke to Green Bay Packers head coach Matt LaFleur revealed the team's current status with Alexander. Advertisement "I talked to Matt LaFleur during draft week, and he said they're in a good place with Jaire Alexander," Schrager said. There have been conflicting reports throughout the offseason on the team's status with Alexander, with some reports suggesting that there was very little chance that he would be on the roster in September. However, general manager Brian Gutekunst never ruled out a return for the star cornerback when asked about a potential move this offseason. Schrager commented on those reports as well. "From what I gathered, this thing is in a lot better place than what was being presented in the media, and that there is a place for Jaire Alexander in Green Bay," Schrager added. "He and Jeff Hafley actually have had a great relationship, and it's a different breed and a different time." Advertisement Considering that he has missed exactly half (34) of all regular-season games played since 2021, a contract restructure is likely to occur if the team decides to keep Alexander. He is currently entering his third year of a 4-year, $84 million contract, making him the fifth highest paid cornerback right now. In six full postseason games played, he has three interceptions and has allowed just two receptions. Advertisement With Alexander on the field last season, the Packers went 7-1, with the lone loss being in Week 1 to the eventual Super Bowl Champions Philadelphia Eagles. The team added just one cornerback in the draft, selecting Tulane's Micah Robinson in the 7th round. However, they did sign former Raiders cornerback Nate Hobbs to a 4-year, $48 million deal. It is important to note that Hobbs is primarily a slot corner and will play a majority of his time there. There will likely be a decision made between Green Bay and Alexander in the coming weeks.
