Peyton Meyer Exits ‘Days of Our Lives' Less Than a Year After Joining as Doug
Peyton Meyer's time on Days of Our Lives is over — but how did Doug's story wrap up? The Friday, July 25, episode of Days of Our Lives concluded Doug III's journey in Salem. He previously promised that he would leave town if Tate (Leo Howard) helped him pay off the loan shark so that Holly (Ashley Puzemis) and Ari (Marissa Reyes) could go free. Doug kept his word and after one final conversation with Julie (Susan Seaforth Hayes), he left Salem for good. Meyer's exit came less than a year after the actor joined the soap. In December 2024, Meyer, 26, was introduced as Doug Sr.'s grandson after meeting his widow Julie at the cemetery. Despite Meyer's short-lived role, Days of Our Lives stars have grown used to saying goodbye to characters over the years. Earlier this season, Days of Our Lives mourned Drake Hogestyn's character, John Black, who died after the actor passed away at age 70 from pancreatic cancer in September 2024. Most Shocking TV Exits of 2024 So Far: From 'And Just Like That' to 'General Hospital' Executive producer Ken Corday spoke about the decision to kill off Hogestyn's character, telling Soap Opera Digest in November 2024, "I wanted to make sure Drake signed off on this, and he was totally in favor of it. We were rolling the dice, because it's difficult to tell a story of someone's death or a character's death while the actor is still alive — albeit [Drake] was fighting, like a tiger, a very difficult disease." Corday recalled getting Hogestyn's stamp of approval. 'I made the choice to [say], 'OK, let's tell the story.' He hadn't been on [the show] in nine months. We needed a reason [for John's absence]," he continued. "He trusted me. Had Drake, God willing, beaten this, he would've come back, and it would've been something different. But [the story] had to be told. It was extremely difficult and painful for us to tell it." Days of Our Lives, which was just renewed for two more seasons, has also faced other surprising departures. In October 2024, Brandon Barash shocked Us by claiming that he was fired from the long-running soap opera after five years. 'I knew exactly what was happening as soon as I was called up to [the boss'] office,' Barash, 45, told 'And she said, 'Look, this is not my doing. I don't like it. And this is no reflection on you or your abilities. You're very talented. We know your work ethic is very high, but it's just where we're deciding to take the character.'' Most Shocking TV Exits of 2025 So Far: From 'Emily in Paris' to 'General Hospital' Barash, who played twins Stefan and Jake DiMera on Days, claimed that he 'was in the middle of a contract, and it was the writers' decision.' Days of Our Lives did not address Barash's claims or exit. At the time, Barash said he didn't know whether his character Stefan would ever return to Days. 'This is the second time this has happened to me on Days of Our Lives. And, you know, it would have to be very, very right,' Barash explained. 'The terms would have to be right. The story would have to be right. The contract would have to be right.' He added: 'I would have to be able to trust them — and I've lost that. I've lost that ability to trust that team, quite frankly.' Solve the daily Crossword

Peyton Meyer Exits Days of Our Lives: Did Doug Williams Redeem Himself Before Leaving Salem?
Days of Our Lives may have been renewed for two more seasons, but we know one handsome troublemaker who won't be around to see them. The Peacock soap's Friday, July 25 episode marked Peyton Meyer's departure as necklace thief-slash-heartbreaker Doug Williams III. Doug's final episode began with a well-deserved tongue-lashing from Gabi, who criticized his parade of stupid decisions that ultimately led to her daughter's kidnapping. 'Ari's great-grandfather took you in, gave you a job, and this is how you repay him?' she asked. Visibly riddled with guilt, Doug took full responsibility for his missteps and handed Gabi an apology letter he wrote for Roman. (Then again, has anyone had a fortunate run-in with Gabi lately?) Doug's next stop was to Julie's, where he finally made good on his promise to return her priceless (and pricey!) family heirloom. 'I know I've said this before, but I'm really sorry, Julie, about everything,' he told her. 'You took me in and made me feel so welcome. You showed me so much kindness, so much love. I hadn't felt that in a long time, and I know that I blew it big-time, and I broke your heart and your trust, and I'll always regret that. Now, I ought to get going.' But Julie wouldn't let Doug go without giving the audience all of the emotional closure we've been craving. After helping Julie put the necklace on, the two shared a beautiful moment in which they connected over family, with Doug telling her about his own personal favorite heirloom — a pair of cufflinks that were once owned by his grandfather Robert. That gave Julie an idea, and she rushed over to the living room to retrieve a pocket watch that Doug carried during his days as a fighter pilot in World War II. 'He always said it brought him luck, so perhaps it'll do the same for you,' Julie told Doug, even promising to wire him the money he needs to pay off his loan shark. 'Until you pay off the debt, you're in danger,' she said. 'I wouldn't want to see you hurt. … It's what my husband would have wanted. You're his grandson, and you're my family.' (Seriously, how did Susan Seaforth Hayes not get a Daytime Emmy nomination?!) 'Would you do me a favor?' Julie asked on Doug's way out the door. 'You have a great deal of potential. You're loaded with wonderful DNA. You've just got to get your life together. And when you do, come back to Salem and show me how well you're doing.' He promised that he would, then walked out of Julie's life as quickly as he entered it. Meyer, whose previous credits include roles on ABC's American Housewife and Disney Channel's Girl Meets World, joined Days of Our Lives in December 2024, playing a mysterious young man who shocked Julie by revealing himself to be her late husband's estranged grandson. Unfortunately, he shocked her again when he stole her precious necklace. In addition to his thievery, Doug also made money working as a busboy at the Brady Pub; his brief love interests in Salem included Holly and Ari. Will you miss seeing Doug on Days, or is he better off leaving Salem in his rearview mirror? And are you hoping to see him make good on that promise to Julie someday?
