Registration open for River-Cade Youth Fishing Derby
SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) — It may not feel like it, but summer is just around the corner. With the warmer days nearing, you might find yourself doing more outdoor activities, like fishing. In just a few short weeks, the 29th Annual River-Cade Youth Fishing Derby will kick off on Saturday, June 7 from 9 a.m. to noon at Bacon Creek Park. The derby makes a perfect opportunity for families to spend time with their kids in the great outdoors. 'When they see someone else catching a fish, or they suddenly see the geese flying, or they see a turtle over there, it's just an environment. Fishing is not about catching a fish. Often, it's about being there and just being outside, learning a little patience because sometimes it's hard to keep hoping and hoping but hopes good for kids,' said River-Cade Event Coordinator Phil Claeys. Spots are limited for the event. To secure a spot, you can register at either of the Sioux City Bomgaars locations. More than 11,000 children have been taken out to fish during the event's 28-year run. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Over 100 teams compete in the River-Cade Minigolf Barstool Pub Crawl
SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) — Saturday's nice weather brought out lots of mini-golfers for the River-Cade Barstool Mini Golf Pub crawl. Over 100-teams of four played 18-holes at 18-different bars in downtown Sioux City. This is the 18th year of the event and it's a fund raiser for the Sioux City Riverssance Festival held in October. The event teed off at noon and there was also an after party for the golfers when they finish. 'It's just such a wonderful event. It's an adult thing, you know, most River-Cade events are family oriented. This is adults. Everybody has a great time,' said Phil Claeys, Event Coordinator for River-Cade. There were also prizes awarded for the most creatively dressed teams. KCAU 9 News is a sponsor of this event. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) — Another summer of River-Cade events is beginning, starting with a traditional mini golf tournament. The 17th annual Barstool Open is scheduled for Saturday, May 3 and will feature 18 bars, 18 holes and plenty of fun, River-Cade announced Friday. Check-in for the 'Puttapalooza' starts at 11:30 a.m. at Buffalo Alice, with tee off at noon. Teams of four can register at any of the participating bars now or on the day of the event. Sioux City Art Center to host Free Family Art Day Phil Claeys with River-Cade told KCAU 9 that last year's event drew in a big crowd, and he hopes that will happen again this year. 'It's a day of fun golfing, like I say, a little too much beer drinking, but what the heck? We're all adults!,' he said. 'I hope everyone turns out 'cause its just a very, very fun afternoon.' Any teams who are creatively dressed will receive a special prize. At the end of the Puttapalooza, Buffalo Alice will host an after-party at 5 p.m. KCAU 9 is a proud sponsor of this event.
