Calibrant Energizes Three Front-of-the-Meter Battery Storage Systems in New York, Unlocking Grid Relief and Corporate Value

WESTCHESTER, N.Y.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Calibrant, a leading provider of on-site energy solutions for large power users, has energized and begun generating Value of Distributed Energy Resources (VDER) credits from three front-of-the-meter battery energy storage systems in New York. Located across Westchester County, these systems utilize U.S.-manufactured battery systems to deliver a combined 13.5 MW / 55.7 MWh of dispatchable capacity to the Con Edison electric grid. The Westchester portfolio plays an important role in stabilizing the grid, especially during peak summer demand. Share The Westchester portfolio plays an important role in stabilizing the grid, especially during peak summer demand—when electricity is most expensive and grid reliability is critical. In exchange for providing power when the grid needs it most and helping to reduce the need for costly new infrastructure, these projects are compensated through VDER bill credits that offset utility bills. Unlocking Value for Corporate Customers The Westchester systems showcase a novel commercial approach that enables large commercial and industrial customers to enjoy the financial benefits of distributed energy—without requiring them to host any infrastructure on-site. Calibrant secured 100% of the off-take through direct agreements with C&I customers, creating a pathway for large energy users to benefit from New York's VDER program. Contracted off-takers include CoreSite—a major data center operator—and a large hospital institution. This model delivers meaningful bill savings and proves especially valuable for organizations with space constraints or permitting challenges that would otherwise prevent on-site energy deployment. 'CoreSite is pleased to collaborate with Calibrant through a long-term energy agreement that supports our energy management objectives while enhancing the reliability of the local electric grid serving our data centers in the New York area,' said Ben Garrard, Vice President of Power and Energy Management at CoreSite. 'We're proud to be a trusted partner in New York, delivering flexible grid assets that strengthen local communities,' said Phil Martin, CEO at Calibrant. 'Limited physical space at some customer sites can make on-site energy solution infeasible. In this case, we delivered an off-site configuration that still drives meaningful savings—a testament to our ability to find and deliver significant value, no matter the circumstances.' The three battery systems were originally developed by New Leaf Energy and are fully owned and operated by Calibrant. Supporting New York Communities Beyond providing grid reliability and cost savings, these projects create long-term economic value for the communities in which they are located. Each project site owner receives 20-year annual lease payments, turning underutilized land into a stable income stream. The battery systems also contribute local taxes, supporting municipal budgets and essential public services. The Westchester portfolio supports the State of New York's goal of deploying 6 GW of energy storage by 2030 and underscores Calibrant's leadership in deploying scalable, high-impact clean energy infrastructure in complex markets. The projects were made possible in part by support from NYSERDA's Retail Storage Incentive program and the Westchester County and Mount Pleasant Industrial Development Agencies. Sam Fender Newcastle concert: Young busker plays at St James' Park

A young busker said he struggled to keep it secret he was going to play on stage with Sam Fender. Joe Bartley often plays his guitar outside St James' Park before Newcastle United home games, but on Thursday he got the chance to perform inside during the star's opening 15-year-old said his performance - watched on by 50,000 fans - was organised about a month ago by the North Shields-born musician and their guitar teacher Phil Martin."It was hard to keep it quiet - I thought it would be better to keep it a surprise and have people be more shocked when they saw me up there," he said. Despite playing in front of his biggest-ever crowd, the young musician said it "felt natural" once he was on he did admit to feeling a little nervous before the gig. "We got to St James' at about five o'clock and I wasn't nervous all day," he told BBC Radio Newcastle's Breakfast with Matt Bailey."But five minutes before I came on, we came outside and I saw the ground was full and that's when the nerves really hit." Fender played three gigs at St James' Park on Thursday, Saturday and United defender Dan Burn was in the crowd during the first concert and his presence was noted by Fender, who then played a version of Ultrabeat's Pretty Green Eyes, with the lyrics changed to Toon fan favourite "He's from Blyth".Burn then repaid the favour by appearing on stage on Sunday, bringing with him the Carabao Cup, which Newcastle won earlier this year, in part to his opening appearing with Fender were members of the Easington Colliery Band from County Durham, who feature on the track Remember My Name - which is dedicated to his grandparents - on his People Watching album. Joe has become a favourite with Newcastle United fans as he can regularly be seen playing outside the ground and using his music to raise money for playing outside Sam Fender's concerts he has raised nearly £2,000 for the West End Food Bank and cancer support charity Maggie' student said his performance with Fender had only boosted his confidence and ambition as a musician."I don't want to copy [Fender]," he said. "I want to be my own thing and hopefully get in a band and take over the world." Follow BBC Newcastle on X (formerly Twitter), Facebook and Instagram.

Tesco employees raise £35k for Hope House Children's Hospice

Supermarket employees have helped to raise more than £35,000 for Hope House Children's Hospice. Colleagues from Tesco took on a mammoth 16-mile sponsored walk and a range of in-store fundraising activities to help support the Morda-based charity and its sister site, Ty Gobaith in North Wales. Funds were also given to Cancer Research UK. Colleagues from the retailer's stores across Shropshire, Powys, Clwyd, Flintshire, and Gwynedd embarked on the trek along the Shropshire Union Canal from Chirk to Dinas Bran Castle last month. It was part of a companywide initiative across Wales to raise money for Cancer Research UK and several local charities chosen by colleagues. Tesco store manager and regional community lead Phil Martin said: 'As a group of colleagues we have worked extremely hard to raise much-needed funds for Hope House & Tŷ Gobaith Children's Hospices and Cancer Research UK. "Our store Community Champions have worked tirelessly over recent weeks raising money through in-store events and dozens of colleagues turned up to walk the route along the Shropshire Union Canal from Chirk to Dinas Bran Castle. "We couldn't be prouder of our team for going the extra mile and raising money for two fantastic causes which help so many people across the local area and beyond.' OTHER NEWS: Hope House & Tŷ Gobaith Children's Hospices aim to give every local child with a life-threatening condition and their family access to professional care to improve their quality of life from the point of diagnosis. The charity currently supports hundreds of local families who are either caring for a terminally ill child or whose child has died. Hope House & Ty Gobaith Children's Hospices Area Fundraiser, Dawn Ball said: 'Wow! What a great effort by Tesco colleagues across all the different stores on their walk. "Every penny of this fantastic amount raised will go directly to the care of local children and families living with a life-threatening condition. "It will enable us to offer the high-quality nursing, play and respite care that we know helps them to live their best life with giggles and smiles. Thank you, Team Tesco.' Cancer Research UK Head of Partners, Eve Mitchell said: 'On behalf of everyone at Cancer Research UK, I want to say a huge thank you to all the Tesco colleagues involved for supporting our life-saving research by taking part in this walk. "The money raised will move progress forward towards a world where everybody lives longer and better lives free from the fear of cancer. Step by step, day by day, our researchers are making this vision a reality, but we couldn't do it without you.'
