Hollywood Road Gets Cozy Red-Sauce Joint With Lasagna Factory

A charming addition has arrived on Hong Kong's Hollywood Road. Don't be fooled by its industrial name though. The Lasagna Factory, sister restaurant to Flat Iron Steak and Picanhas', is what Italian-Americans like myself would affectionately call a red-sauce joint: a hearty, family-style dining experience born in immigrant neighborhoods in New York and Chicago. But does the food live up to that cherished standard? A colleague and I came here for lunch a few weeks after its opening to find out. As we stepped inside, greeted by iconic red-and-white checkered tablecloths and the savory aroma of baked pasta, I suddenly sensed: I don't think we're in Sheung Wan anymore.

Sate your cravings at Baking Maniac 's Taikoo Place pop-up, with a rotating selection of more than 40 cupcake flavours including s'mores, toffee apple, carrot and pretty much whatever else you could imagine. The mother-and-son duo behind the brand will also offer its vegan chocolate cakes, which are free of gluten and refined sugar, alongside cake pops, cookies and brownies. Advertisement Until June 30. Picanhas' Serves Casual South American Steaks in New HK Offering

For Brazilians such as me, picanha is a big deal. The country's most popular beef cut, known elsewhere as rump cap or top sirloin, comes with a layer of fat that adds juice and tenderness to the meat. The cut needs little addition other than salt to bring the flavor out. I grew up devouring picanha at Sunday family barbecues in my hometown of Presidente Prudente, about 1,000 kilometers (621 miles) south of Brasilia. Since moving to Hong Kong in 2021, I've struggled to find a steakhouse that could give me that cozy and familiar taste of home — my heartland. I'd basically given up, turning to my memories instead — and then I heard about a new restaurant that's opened on Elgin Street called Picanhas'.

Head to SoHo for a table at new Latin American steakhouse Picanhas'. Just as its name suggests, the open-kitchen concept specialises in Brazilian picanha, also known as rump cap or top sirloin. Diners can choose from a menu of three picanha: 200-day grain-fed black Angus, a dry-aged black Angus, or a Wagyu M9+. A 1kg T-bone and 1.2kg tomahawk are also available for sharing, alongside gourmet burgers and grilled meat skewers. All the meat here is smoked and rendered to lock in flavour, then grilled in a Spanish Josper oven. Where?
