Sunny skies, high near 79 on Monday in the Piedmont Triad
PIEDMONT TRIAD, N.C. (WGHP) — Another line of isolated storms is passing through this evening from north to south. This should be the last of the back-door disturbance, and from here the skies should clear, the humidity drops, and temperatures start to rise. There will be sunny skies Monday with a high around 79 and the low Monday night cool in the mid-50s. Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday will see highs in the low to mid-80s and lows each night, gradually warming into the 60s. By the end of the week, the computer models show low pressure forming in the Gulf and off the Florida coast and heading north. There will also be a cold front heading our way from the west. If this scenario does play out, both systems will be disorganized with nothing pushing or pulling them along, so they could both simply stall out for the weekend and bring us a chance for rain both Saturday and Sunday. That is still a long ways off and the forecast could change several times over the next few days. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Isolated storms possible Sunday in the Piedmont Triad
PIEDMONT TRIAD, N.C. (WGHP) — A back door cold front has been pushing through from north to south today, bringing some scattered strong storm cells during the afternoon. This cold front is expected to stall out along the South Carolina line tomorrow. Behind that front, another low-pressure line is expected to follow on Sunday, which could bring a few more isolated storms for Sunday afternoon. After those possible isolated storms move along, we should be in for some sunny, warm, and dry weather for most of the week. Humidity will be low to start the week, but expect that to change by Thursday, when more humid weather will approach along with another chance for rain next weekend. The highs on Sunday will be near 78 with a low Sunday night around 53. Temperatures will gradually warm into the mid to upper 80s by Wednesday. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Huckleberry, Greensboro's pygmy hippo, turning 2; ‘80% adorable, 20% mischief'
GREENSBORO, N.C. (WGHP) — One of Greensboro's cutest animal residents is having a birthday! Huckleberry, the pygmy hippo who lives with her mother Holly and father Ralph at the Greensboro Science Center, will turn 2 years old on May 24. The little hippo captured hearts locally when she was born in 2023, but 2024 saw a huge spike in the global awareness of pygmy hippos after the viral celebrity of Moo Deng in Thailand. After Moo, there came Scotland's Haggis and Virginia's Poppy, among others. All pygmy hippos are beautiful, of course, but the Piedmont Triad had a charismatic baby superstar first, which counts for a lot. Her keeper, Mike, says 'When she started to be more independent, Huckleberry would go and explore new spaces and act like a tough hippo. When mom would walk away to a new area and Huckleberry did not see her do this, she would jump on the spot as soon as she realized mom wasn't there and run to where mom was. Huckleberry = 80% adorable, 20% mischief.' That math adds up! If you're interested in visiting Huckleberry, she'll be celebrating her birthday in style Saturday morning! The pygmy hippopotamus weighs in a lot leaner than their river hippo cousin, only reaching a scant 350 to 600 pounds versus the river hippos' multi-ton average. Pygmy hippos are considered an endangered species in their native West Africa. You can keep up with Huckleberry and the other animals at the Greensboro Science Center on Instagram, TikTok and Facebook. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
