Young boy given 'strength by Spider-Man' to walk unassisted for first time after meeting hero

Noah Connell, who suffers from Pierre Robin Sequence, walked unassisted for the first time after meeting Spider-Man himself at the Glasgow film set. A vulnerable schoolboy has been given the 'strength by Spider-Man' to walk unassisted for the first time after being invited to the Glasgow film set. ‌ Noah Connell, eight, who suffers from Pierre Robin Sequence and was born with part of his spine missing, an underdeveloped jaw, cleft palate, a small neck and a floppy airway, took his first ever unassisted steps just hours after meeting his idol, Spider-Man. ‌ Despite doctors doubting Noah would survive infancy, he defied all odds and was dubbed a 'miracle baby'. ‌ The Barmulloch youngster also happens to be a big fan of comic book superheroes. So when marvel movie crews descended on Glasgow city centre to shoot Spider Man: Brand New Day, Noah's mum, Jade Gordon, 26, whisked the family down to catch a glimpse of the web slinger. She said: 'Noah loves superheroes but his favourite is Spider-Man. 'With them filming the new one in Glasgow, we took him down on Tuesday August 5 to the set to see if we could get a glimpse of him and watch everything that was going on, like the whole of Glasgow. 'These crew members approached us and gave Noah a wee Marvel badge but we were shocked at what happened next.' ‌ The stunt crew on the film who spoke to the family, named Elliot Murray and Yusef, ended up arranging for little Noah to meet Spider-Man himself on Sunday August 10. Jade continued: 'He was meant to meet Spidey that day but due to Storm Floris, which happened on the day before, they were behind on filming so it couldn't happen. ‌ 'The lovely crew members took my number though and on Sunday August 10 they got back in touch to organise for Noah to meet Spider-Man. 'We got taken right on set and got to watch it being filmed before one of the Spider-Man stunt men came over to Noah and spoke away, gave high fives and took pictures. ‌ 'It was the real-life Spider-Man to Noah, he was over the moon. He was pretending to shoot his webs and Noah was totally engrossed the whole time. He soaked it all up. 'Noah is non-verbal but he was so fixated and was touching his suit as if he couldn't believe Spider-Man was right in front of him. 'It was a classic example of kindness going a long way. This memory will last forever. ‌ 'We always say Noah is our wee superhero but he has been fortunate enough to now meet his superhero.' Later that evening, once the family got home from the set, Noah, who requires a wheelchair for the majority of the time and round-the-clock care as he cannot eat or speak and is fed through a tube, walked unassisted for the first time. ‌ His mother Jade has said that Spider-Man was one of the reasons for his miraculous step forward. She said: 'We have said that it was Spider-Man inspired and Noah is the superhero now. 'It was a great day already before he completed such a major milestone. It was such an emotional moment. 'Noah has limited mobility but he is so determined. He has been trying to do that for a year now through working with physios and building up his power. 'He managed to take a few unassisted steps and we joked that it was Spider-Man who gave him the strength to do it.' Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community!
