SIBU: A man reported missing a week ago was found dead today near a car believed to have plunged into a ravine along the road to the Baleh hydroelectric dam in Kapit. Kapit district police chief DSP Rohana Nanu identified the victim as 54-year-old Pika Rangga. The body was discovered about 30 metres from the car. 'The victim's body has been taken to Kapit Hospital for further action and his identity has been confirmed by family members,' Rohana told Bernama. Sibu Fire and Rescue Department chief Andy Alie said they received a call about the discovery at 3.06 pm. A team from the Kapit Fire and Rescue Station, located 61 kilometres away, was dispatched and arrived at 4.08 pm. 'Inspections at the scene uncovered a Perodua Bezza in a ravine about 100 metres deep,' Andy said. Firefighters used a scoop stretcher to retrieve the victim's body. The body was then handed over to the police for further action. A Ministry of Health medical officer confirmed the victim dead at the scene. The operation concluded at 4.35 pm. - Bernama

The victim was identified as Pika Rangga, 54, from Rumah Sura, Kerangan Bangat Ulu. According to the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), Pika was last seen on Aug 8 after leaving Kapit market in his purple Perodua Bezza to head to work. His family lodged a missing persons report when he failed to return home or be contacted. Kapit Bomba station received a distress call at 3.06pm today and deployed a team to the scene, located about 61 kilometres from Kapit town. 'Upon arrival, firefighters discovered a vehicle had plunged into a steep ravine. A male victim was found about 50 metres away from the wrecked vehicle, unconscious,' Bomba said in a statement today. Medical personnel later confirmed that the victim had died at the scene. His body was retrieved using a pulley system and a bucket stretcher before being handed over to the police. The operation, which ended at 4.35pm, involved six firefighters, six police officers, four health personnel and seven members of the Civil Defence Force (APM). KAPIT (Aug 15): Police are seeking public assistance to locate a 54-year-old man who has been missing since Aug 9 after he was last seen in the Kapit town area. Pika Rangga, from Rumah Sura, Kerangan Bangat Ulu, Batang Rajang, was last seen at 3.50am on Aug 9 after dropping off a friend at a rented house in Kapit town centre. He had earlier met his wife at the Kapit market on the afternoon of Aug 8 and was believed to have left for work in his purple Perodua Bezza sedan, registration number QS8054P. Kapit police chief DSP Rohana Nanu said search efforts are ongoing and urged anyone with information – no matter how small – to come forward. 'The family is deeply concerned and we are doing all we can to locate him,' she said in a statement today.
