Pile Announce New Album and North American Tour, Unveil Single 'Born at Night': Stream

The post Pile Announce New Album and North American Tour, Unveil Single 'Born at Night': Stream appeared first on Consequence. Pile have announced a new album, Sunshine and Balance Beams, arriving August 15th via new label home Sooper Records. The Boston act also detailed a 2025 North American tour and shared the LP's lead single 'Born at Night.' The band will be supporting the LP with an extensive late-summer/fall tour with new label mate and Sooper Records co-founder NNAMDÏ. The trek runs from August 21st in Portland, Maine, through a hometown finale gig on October 11th in Boston, and includes stops in Toronto, Chicago, Seattle, Dallas, and New York City, among other markets. Get Pile Tickets Here Tickets go on sale Friday (May 16th) at 10 a.m. local time, with select dates available via Ticketmaster, and other shows available via local venue links on the band's website. The album's lead single 'Born at Night' builds from a calm underbelly of twinkling guitars, as rolling toms and a swell of strings signal a crescendo near the song's halfway mark. Singer Rick Maguire's imitable drawl also rises as he belts out the titular refrain: 'I was born at night.' Lyrically, the track 'wrestles with the idea that there is no enlightenment, no end to suffering,' per Pile's press release, a concept mirrored by the song's stark, black-and-white music video, which was directed by Josh Echevarria. 'The fulfillment I receive from pursuing art has been a guiding force for me,' said Maguire of the new album. 'But it can be damaging when that pursuit subscribes to material expectations of where you might be able to go, and then doesn't square with the reality that follows.' Pre-order Sunshine and Balance Beams on vinyl, CD, and cassette via Sooper Records. Below you can watch the video for 'Born at Night' and see the album art and tracklist. Artwork: Tracklist: 01. B.C. conservation officer denies allegations from hunting show host

Article content The conservation officer sued for $2.4 million by a hunting TV host channel has denied all allegations that he maliciously and compulsively harassed the hunter, causing him to lose his YouTube channel and sponsorships. Article content Michel Beaulieu, who referred to himself as a hunter, TV personality and businessman, filed the lawsuit in March against Wyatt Pile and the B.C. Conservation Officer Service, alleging a harassment campaign that included the officer posing as a buyer for his Kelowna house. Article content Article content The lawsuit in B.C. Supreme Court alleges Pile began harassing Beaulieu in 2020, after the hunter illegally shared a hunting tag with his wife during a bear kill. Article content Article content A subsequent two-year investigation by B.C. and Alberta wildlife officers resulted in more than $25,000 in fines against the couple after the seizure of unlawfully killed wildlife at six locations in both provinces, Alberta wildlife officials have said in online posts. Article content Beaulieu alleged Pile 'seemed to become obsessed … and started targeting Beaulieu,' watching his YouTube videos, calling him several times and threatening him with more charges, according to his lawsuit. Article content The defendants denied all the allegations in a recent court filing. Article content The filing said Pile became involved in Beaulieu's case after Alberta wildlife officers in 2020 investigated the man for the suspected unlawful killing of a bighorn sheep. Article content Article content The Alberta officers suspected Beaulieu was falsely claiming residency in Alberta and B.C. to obtain hunting licences in both provinces, contrary to the B.C. Wildlife Act, which led to an B.C. investigation with Pile as lead investigator, it said. Article content Article content It said Pile watched an episode of Alpine Carnivore on Beaulieu's YouTube channel that showed he and his wife hunting a black bear near Salmon Arm in May 2020, during which his wife shot the bear and killed it while sharing Beaulieu's licence, which is against the law. Article content Pile said in the court document that the charges for hunting without a licence, using the licence of another person, allowing the licence to be used by another person and possessing dead wildlife without a licence were the four charges that were approved, and the couple entered a guilty plea in a plea bargain with prosecutors.

Devon hygienist builds mobile dental unit in 34-year-old caravan

A dental hygienist from Devon has converted a caravan into a mobile dental clinic to help people who struggle to attend appointments at surgeries. Former Royal Air Force (RAF) dental hygienist Tara Pile bought the 1991 Compass Shadow in October and finished converting the caravan in February. The vehicle had leaking windows and a rotten floor which were replaced before clinical equipment was installed that needed to be signed off for dental use. She said the mobile clinic allowed her to be "much more versatile" and do dentistry in people's homes. Mrs Pile has been a hygienist for 20 years and said she had an image in her mind of how she wanted it to look. "I bought her and my husband freaked out when I took it home and told him I was going to convert it into a dental clinic," she said. "I knew what was needed, it was just trying to geographically pop it in here."The caravan, now named Flossy, is equipped with a sterilisation unit, an ultrasonic bath and taps which can be operated by people's elbows. "Because it's a basic surgery, you'd need a chair and you need a portable dental unit, but also you need sterilisation circuit, so everything has to run from dirty to clean," she said. "We don't need a lot of kit, but you do need the specific equipment to have it clinically ready to go." Mrs Pile, who is registered with the General Dental Council and has her services regulated by the Care Quality Commission (CQC), said mobile dental care was a small industry but it could help people have healthier teeth. She said: "We can make it more accessible and less inconvenient. "Clinics are busy and they're booking nine to five every day, but sometimes people need to be seen of an evening or weekend - that's where he can come in. "We can come to your own home and treat the family in one sitting rather than having to do four or five trips."Although she does not provide emergency dental care, Mrs Pile said she hoped to make two more versions of Flossy to cover Devon, Cornwall and further afield.

The Pearl of the Adriatic: From cuisine and culture to nature and history, discover Dubrovnik

There are few places more magnificent than Dubrovnik; its combination of breathtaking beauty, rich, storied history, and well-preserved medieval architecture has long drawn curious travellers, as well as location scouts who have immortalised its allure in films and television series from The Last Jedi to Game of Thrones. Set aside the glittering Adriatic Sea, this stunning UNESCO city is truly the product of its past; it's been ruled by the Greeks, the Byzantines, the Republic of Venice, and the French and Austrian Empires, and what you'll find here today is a mix of majestic architecture from all these eras, from its medieval walls, to its Baroque cathedrals and churches. There's nothing quite like taking a stroll down the Stradun, the city's spectacular main street, paved with polished limestone slabs. Here, you can marvel at landmarks such as the Pile and Ploče Gates at each end, both the large and small Onofrio Fountains, and the striking bell towers which loom over the landscape. City highlights Another unmissable experience is to walk Dubrovnik's wonderful City Walls; as you meander along their ancient stone steps, you'll pass turrets and forts, and even a couple of secret, hole-in-the-wall cafe bars. It's well worth stopping at one of them to take in the incredible panoramic views over the city's distinctive, terracotta-tiled rooftops, and out across the sea to the tiny nearby island of Lokrum. Take a short boat trip here for its lush botanical garden, paraded by vocal peacocks, a saltwater lake, and a Game of Thrones exhibition, complete with the actual Iron Throne. Another fascinating sight is Lovrijenac fortress, which sits just outside the western wall on a promontory overhanging the Adriatic. It also used to serve as a theatre, and plays are still performed at this dramatic location today. More must-sees include the 14th century Rector's Palace, a stunning Gothic, Baroque and Renaissance construction which was once an official government building. Nearby, is the equally elaborate Sponza Palace, a former customs house designed in Venetian style, which has also been used as a mint, treasury, armoury and bank. For a fun taste of daily life, head to Gundulićeva Poljana, a buzzy open-air market in a small square close to the Rector's Palace, where you can find all sorts of souvenirs, crafts and local produce. This area is also brimming with restaurants, offering tantalising traditional Croatian dishes such as brudet – a delicious fish stew, black risotto – a rice dish coloured with cuttlefish ink and made with fresh shellfish, there's also zelena menestra – a hearty mix of cabbage, meat and potatoes, and octopus peka, slow-cooked under a metal dome. Exploring further afield If all this has whetted your appetite for adventure, head twenty minutes south to Župa Dubrovačka, an area of outstanding natural beauty. There's a variety of stunning beaches, from sandy family-friendly options like Kupari and Plat to secluded coves, perfect for swimming and sunbathing. Offering crystal-clear water and scenic promenades, most of them feel more relaxed and less busy than those close to Dubrovnik. You can also indulge in a wide range of watersports such as snorkelling, kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding. Elsewhere, explore tiny but traditional villages, which have kept their heritage – you might even spot locals wearing their charming folk costumes. And don't forget to stop by an authentic konoba, these family-run taverns are known for fantastic regional food and wine; brave a shot or two of rakija, the local brandy, if you dare! Finally, head to Konavle, positioned at the very south of the evocatively-named Dubrovnik Riviera. A picturesque region informally known as 'Dubrovnik's countryside', it's comprised of forest-carpeted mountains and lush, green valleys where you'll find charming rural architecture, ancient traditions and crafts, plus olive groves and vineyards. Make a beeline for Cavtat, a captivating coastal town with a handsome boardwalk, a handful of churches and museums, and excellent seafood restaurants. For compelling views, walk up to the Sokol Fortress, perched on a 25m high crag over the Konavle valley, or explore the rugged terrain on a hike, by bike, or even on horseback. And don't miss the chance to try the local wines, particularly Maraština, a full-bodied white, and Plavac Mali, a rich, flavourful red. Now, toast your visit to all these beautiful parts of the Dubrovnik Riviera!

Recruiting is heating up with spring visits on the horizon as the Wolverines begin spring ball in a matter of days (March 18) but one current maize and blue commitment is making a name for himself off campus as he goes through the 7-on-7 circuit. 2026 Dallas (Tx.) Parish Episcopal School three-star wide receiver Jaylen Pile has been pledged to the Wolverines since Oct. 16. 2024 but on Saturday, he's participating in the Overtime 7-on-7.
