Melbourne Cup plans grow for US stayer Parchment Party
Melbourne Cup-qualified American stayer Parchment Party has boosted potential Flemington claims with a second stakes win in New York. The Pin Oak Stud-owned four-year-old son of Constitution, trained by Bill Mott, on Thursday (AEST) won the Listed Birdstone Stakes (2800m) at Saratoga. Parchment Party won a Melbourne Cup golden ticket in June with a victory in the Group 3 Belmont Gold Cup Invitational (2800m). Owner Dana Bernhard, of Pin Oak Stud, told the Saratoga Live broadcast 'it's our plan' when asked about possible Melbourne spring carnival participation. Pin Oak Stud-owned World Beater, trained by Mott's son Riley, coincidently won the Cox Plate -qualifying Group 1 Saratoga Derby Invitational last week. The interest in two horses qualified for Australia's biggest races could sweeten the cost and logistics to travel from the US to Melbourne via quarantine at Newmarket, UK. 'We're leaning in that (Melbourne) direction,' Bill Mott told Saratoga Live. 'We're trying to make all the early plans that we need to make.' Parchment Party could become the first US-trained horse to start in the Melbourne Cup. Five US-bred horses have won a Melbourne Cup with French-trained Australian-owned Americain the most recent in 2010. That's back-to-back stakes wins for PARCHMENT PARTY as he wins the Birdstone Stakes under @ljlmvel for trainer Bill Mott. — NYRA (🎰) (@TheNYRA) August 6, 2025 Victoria Racing Club chief racing officer Leigh Jordon welcomed Parchment Party's progress. 'It was great to see Parchment Party win the Birdstone Stakes and the excitement from the ownership group following the race,' Jordon said. 'They are currently looking at travel options for the horse and the prospect of Parchment Party becoming the first American-trained horse to run in the Lexus Melbourne Cup has created an incredible buzz. 'We're proud to have strengthened our relationship with the New York Racing Association by making the Belmont Gold Cup a golden ticket into the Lexus Melbourne Cup. It is part of the (VRC's) ongoing commitment to growing the international reach of the race and build meaningful relationships across the world.'

'Very Meaningful': Riley Mott Savoring First Grade 1 Win
'Very Meaningful': Riley Mott Savoring First Grade 1 Win originally appeared on Paulick Report. During his childhood, trainer Riley Mott would dream about a day when he would follow in his Hall of Fame father Bill Mott's footsteps and lead his own horse into the winner's circle for a graded stakes. That dream came to fruition on Saturday at Saratoga Race Course when World Beater took the Saratoga Derby Invitational (G1) over a field that included Capitol Hill, a trainee for his father. 'That doesn't happen often,' Mott said of finishing ahead of his father, with a laugh. 'It was great. He was happy, and it was a good day. A lot of my family was there, so it was very meaningful.' Pin Oak Stud's World Beater improved from a runner-up finish to Test Score in the Belmont Derby Invitational (G1) on July 4 at Saratoga, and found the winner's circle with a smart trip engineered by Junior Alvarado, who picked up the mount from Jaime Torres, whose flight was delayed. The son of Oscar Performance was 10 lengths off the pace in fifth through the half-mile in 47.67 seconds before angling off the rail and in between foes to set his sights on the pacesetting Juwelier with Test Score looming large down the center of the course. World Beater found his best stride in the lane and got the jump on Test Score to pounce on the stubborn pacesetter inside the final eighth and power away to the half-length score in a final time of 1:52.82 over firm going. Mott gave credit to Alvarado, who is also the regular pilot of the Bill Mott-trained dual classic winner Sovereignty. 'Junior made all the right moves, which he's been doing a lot recently,' Mott said as he scouted the next generation of runners at the Fasig-Tipton yearling sales grounds in Saratoga. 'The horse came back really well, clean-legged, jogging sound with good energy. He ships back this afternoon to Keeneland.' As for a next start for World Beater, Mott said there are several races being considered, with the next New York option the Jockey Club Derby (G2) in September at Belmont at the Big A. 'It's to be determined. We'll watch him for a week or two and make sure he's healthy and doing well,' Mott said. 'There's some lucrative 3-year-old turf races going into the fall and I would say everything is an option. 'I always thought he was a horse that would improve with time,' Mott added. 'It took us a couple starts to run him on turf, but I think we all kind of thought he'd wind up on the turf. It's been really nice to see his progression over the course of this year.' World Beater's Saratoga Derby victory came within an hour of the FanDuel Fourstardave (G1), which was won by the Miguel Clement-trained Deterministic. Miguel Clement is the son of the late trainer Christophe Clement, who shared a barn with Bill Mott at Saratoga where Miguel now occupies the same stalls. The veteran conditioners also spent decades training in close proximity to each other in both New York and Florida. Riley and Miguel grew up together at the racetrack, and both shared the dream of carving out their own careers as trainers. Mott reflected on the two friends earning top-level victories on the same afternoon at Saratoga. 'It's what he and I have dreamt about since we were literally in diapers together,' Mott said, with a laugh. 'We used to run around in our backyard pretending I was Cigar and he was Flag Down. It was something we always really dreamt about, so it was pretty cool.' This story was originally reported by Paulick Report on Aug 3, 2025, where it first appeared.

World Beater Storms Home To Capture Saratoga Derby In Thrilling Finish
World Beater Storms Home To Capture Saratoga Derby In Thrilling Finish originally appeared on Paulick Report. Pin Oak Stud's World Beater showed off his late kick, running down the big longshot Juwelier to win Saturday's $750,000 Saratoga Derby invitational (G1) at Saratoga, earning trainer Riley Mott his first Grade 1 victory. Juwelier was off slow, but was hustled to grab the lead as the field traveled into the first turn. He sprinted away from the group, setting fractions of :23.92, :47.67 and 1:11.03 for the first six furlongs. Tiberius Thunder followed him in second, while Test Score sat outside of Capitol Hill in third and fourth. World Beater sat just behind that pair in fifth. Tiztastic, New Century, Hotazhell, and Final Gambit rounded out the field, sixth to ninth. There wasn't much change in the order until the far turn, where Juwelier's lead started to diminish. As they turned into the stretch, Tiberius Thunder started to fade while Capitol Hill made his run up the rail. World Beater and Test Score moved in tandem, with World Beater on the inside. Hotazhell tried to make a run, but found himself in traffic trouble through the stretch run. Tiztastic, New Century, and Final Gambit came with their run, but they were never a threat. Inside final sixteenth is where World Beater took the lead from the stubborn Juwelier, who held on for second. Test Score closed into third, and Hotazhell finished fourth. Final Gambit, New Century, Capitol HIll, and Tiberius Thunder, finished fifth through eighth in a blanket finish. Tiztastic rounded out the field in ninth. The 3-year-old son of Oscar Performance, World Beater went off at odds of 11-1 and paid 24.40 for the win. He completed the 1⅛ miles in 1:52.82 winning by half a length under jockey Junior Alvarado. "It was a great trip. You are always worried about being a little wide on the turf, but the horse just needs a clear run and Junior wound up finding a hole turning for home and I mean the horse is really game. He was kind of headed on the outside and really dug in well, so that's all she wrote," said Mott. Mott is the son of Hall of Famer Bill Mott, who congratulated his son after his big win. 'I grew up here. This is my childhood at Saratoga, this is my playground,' said Mott. 'The amount of times we've walked down here to the winner's circle together, my Dad and I, I couldn't count them all, so this was really special to have him and my extended family here." Initially, World Beater was supposed to be ridden by Jaime Torres, but due to travel restrictions, Alvarado picked up the mount. 'You don't want to do it that way but I'm glad I picked it up. The Mott connection, I had to do it. But I do feel terrible for Jamie [Torres- expected jockey] there wasn't nothing he could actually do, things just happen, and I do feel terrible for him,' said Alvarado. World Beater was bred by Dr. John A. Chandler in Kentucky. He is out of the Blame mare Dabinett, and now sports a record of three wins, two seconds, and one third from eight career starts. He finished second in last month's Belmont Derby Invitational (G1) behind Test Score. World Beater also earned a spot in the Cox Plate (G1), Australia's premier, weight-for-age event, with the victory.
