Drivers of cabs, autos clash in Kardhani on Day 4 of strike

Jaipur: The strike by app-based cab drivers in Jaipur entered its fourth day Thursday. Tensions escalated in the evening when a scuffle broke out between cab drivers and auto-rickshaw drivers near the Indian petrol pump under Kardhani police station area. Kardhani police reached the spot, but the cab drivers fled as soon as they saw police. Kuldeep Singh Issar, leader of the joint forum spearheading the strike, said, "The auto drivers are also partly at fault here. We have made it clear that the strike is on, then why are they still picking up passengers?" He added, "We didn't earn a single rupee in the past four days, yet we are standing our ground to fight for our rights. Like everyone else, we have EMIs to pay and families to feed, but this battle needs to be fought with resolve." Issar also raised concerns over low online ride fares. "We are earning just Rs 8 per kilometre through online bookings. How much lower can the fares go? We have submitted a memorandum to deputy CM Premchand Bairwa and the transport commissioner, demanding that Jaipur adopt a metered fare system similar to Delhi and Mumbai," he added. On the other hand, expressing strong displeasure, Amar Singh Chauhan, state president of Pink City Auto Rickshaw Union, said local auto drivers, who are not part of the strike, are being unnecessarily harassed.
