Devil Wears Prada fans threaten to BOYCOTT sequel after noticing peculiar detail in Meryl Streep set photos

Devil Wears Prada fans have threatened to boycott the upcoming sequel after they noticed a peculiar detail in the photos of Meryl Streep on set. The actress, 76, is reprising her role as fearsome fashion editor Miranda Priestly in the upcoming follow-up to the fan favorite 2006 blockbuster film. She was spotted shooting the movie in New York City on Wednesday, with photos showing a stone-faced Meryl dressed in a chic brown leather pencil skirt, a plunging lavender blouse, slimming camel-toned coat and dark sunglasses as she arrived on set. And while seeing her back in character as the tyrannical boss of Runway magazine excited hoards of fans, some were left outraged after they noticed something rather bizarre that Meryl was holding. In some of the snaps, the Mamma Mia! star was seen clutching a bedazzled pink water bottle, and many of the original film's dedicated supporters were not amused by the accessory. Many claimed on X, formerly Twitter, that Miranda would never use such an over-the-top and 'tacky' item, and some even announced that they would no longer be watching because of the detail. 'THE MIRANDA PRIESTLY CARRIES A BEDAZZLED CUP,' one user wrote on X alongside some of the images. The post got over 2.6 million views and sparked a frenzied discussion in the replies. 'What's next. A Labubu?' asked another horrified person. 'This is giving Blake lively in wardrobe and I cannot. She would never. I'm not f**king watching it,' scathed someone else. 'Miranda would never do that. Stop this movie right now,' begged a different fan. 'Something tells me they're gonna ruin this movie,' a fifth tweet read. 'The way Miranda would never be caught dead carrying her own water bottle what's going on?' said a sixth. Many others, however, suggested that the photos were taken during a break between filming and that it was actually Meryl's own personal water bottle and not part of the film. The photos seem to be taken when cameras weren't rolling as they show Meryl heading to an awaiting vehicle surrounded by crew. The original film saw Andrea 'Andy' Sachs (played by Anne Hathaway) plunge into the fashion industry and get swiftly made over from a mousy bookworm into a high-octane glamour-puss. It's believed that Meryl's character - her intense and icy boss - was based off now outgoing Vogue chief Anna Wintour. The original novel that the film was based off of was a roman à clef by the real Anna's former assistant Lauren Weisberger. News broke last July that a sequel was in the works, and it has since been confirmed that Anne and Meryl are both returning. Anne was spotted shooting the new film this week, wearing a slew of fashionable and bold outfits. Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci have also been seen on set, confirming they will reprise their roles in the sequel. Stanley was a scene-stealing presence in the first film as Runway magazine's waspish art director Nigel Kipling, who announces Miranda's arrival at the office by warning his colleagues: 'All right, everyone, gird your loins!' Among the other actors pictured Wednesday included BJ Novak and Pauline Chalamet, the older sister of A-lister Timothée Chalamet. Although Lauren wrote a sequel to her novel called Revenge Wears Prada, the reported plot of the second film is different from that of the second book. In the upcoming movie, Miranda is said to be attempting to steer Runway through a new media landscape as her old world of print magazines slides into increasing irrelevance in the digital age, according to Variety. She is bent on making a deal with a luxury ad firm, only to hit a snag in the shape of Emily, who is now an executive at the company.
