Cantonment hosp in Prayagraj to set up separate ICU for Ayushman patients, Pink OPD for women
Prayagraj: The Cantonment Board's General Hospital will set up a separate 10-bed ICU ward exclusively for
Ayushman Bharat
beneficiaries to ensure they receive timely and quality
critical care
. The facility will become operational from June 1.
This will ease ICU access and raise the total ICU beds in the hospital to 24.
The hospital administration faced frequent challenges admitting Ayushman patients into the existing ICU, which currently has 14 beds, due to a lack of availability. This often forced referrals to other hospitals, leading to inconvenience and delays in treatment for seriously ill patients.
According to the hospital authorities, the new ICU ward is equipped with oxygen supply and necessary infrastructure.
All beds will be under the supervision of specialist doctors. In addition to local physicians, specialists from Lucknow will monitor patients online, ensuring expert oversight round-the-clock.
Simultaneously, the hospital is gearing up to introduce a new initiative for women patients. Named 'Pink OPD', this will be an exclusive outpatient department located within the hospital premises and specifically designed to cater to women's healthcare needs.

Female patients will be provided expert medical consultation and treatment, with a special focus on maternal health. During pregnancy, women will be guided on how to maintain good health and manage related complications.
Currently, pregnant women receive limited services—mainly delivery-related—at the district women's hospital. For any other medical issues, they are referred to other govt hospitals like Colvin, Beli or Swaroop Rani Nehru, which often causes additional burden and distress.
The Pink OPD aims to fill this gap. It will offer services from specialists in MD medicine, urology and orthopaedics.
The Pink OPD will operate from 8am to 11am daily. A token system will be introduced to avoid long queues and ensure orderly service. Most preparations for the OPD are complete, and the facility is expected to start functioning by the end of this month.
