City markets go all out with tricolour merch this I-Day

With Independence Day just around the corner, Kolkata markets are all decked up in hues of saffron, white, and green, offering everything from tri-colour T-shirts and quirky wigs to ribbons, caps, and patriotic accessories. From the bustling lanes of Burrabazar to the vibrant stalls near Rash Behari Avenue and Dum Dum, vendors are brimming with Independence Day merch. CT brings you a guide on what to shop and where to find it. What's flying off the shelves this year? Be it tri-colour T-shirts, ribbons, caps, hairbands, bracelets, key rings, wristbands, or miniature flags, markets are overflowing with merchandise to match the mood. Whether it's for a school function, a society parade, or just to feel patriotic, there's something for everyone. 'This time, tri-coloured 'I Love My India' balloons are trending. We have a lot of orders from schools and colleges,' said Pintu Das, a seller near Rash Behari Avenue. Another shopkeeper, Rakesh Agarwal, added, 'Tri-colour accessories and hairbands are selling well this year. Kids are loving funky wigs & badges to help them stand out in school functions.' This time the market is slow as people have already spent for Rakhi, and Janmashtami is coming up, but schools, societies, and clubs celebrating Independence Day are still buying essentials – Pintu Das, seller near Rash Behari Avenue Pics: Anindya Saha; Model: Hrilina Majumder "Get the latest news updates on Times of India, including reviews of the movie Coolie and War 2 ."
