Perth's first non-alcoholic bar opens in western suburbs

A Wembley cafe's trial to double up as Perth's first non-alcoholic bar is part of a bigger trend of young partiers moving away from the traditional booze and bar scene, its owners say. Pique coffee shop owners Jase and Claire Millar have turned their coffee house into Perth's first non-alcoholic bar for after-work drinks over two Fridays. 'It's true that more people, especially young people, have stopped drinking alcohol or are talking about drinking less alcohol,' Mrs Millar said. Your local paper, whenever you want it. 'A lot more places have an expanding alcohol-free menu, but there's nowhere in Perth exclusively alcohol-free. 'But if you don't want to go to a bar, or you have a problem with alcohol but you still want to catch up with some friends, then where do you go? 'So we thought we could join those ideas together and create the feeling of a bar, but just without the alcohol.' Pique Coffee co-owners Jase and Claire Millar. 'We kind of wanted to replicate those after-work Friday drinks,' Mrs Millar said. 'And having people talking around at a bar is a good concept for conversation starters, given it's kind of a familiar space for many.' The evening event is completely alcohol-free, offering patrons a range of alcohol-free drinks and mocktails, including some inspired by coffee. 'You almost kind of get that same feeling that you are having a drink, but you're not,' Mrs Millar said. 'We have a have a drink called a coffee Cola, which feels like you're drinking a beer with it off the tap, but it's a coffee. 'Other drinks include Scarborough Sunset, Summer Holidaze and Cold Fashioned.' Mr and Mrs Millars' new bar idea reflects a growing trend that is seeing younger people across the world drinking less alcohol than previous generations at the same age. In Australia, more than a quarter of nightclubs have closed in recent years, while the rise of the health and wellness industry has skyrocketed. Evidence of this cultural shift has popped up across Perth, including a sober silent disco at Cottesloe Beach earlier this year and other early morning 'hosvitality' such as Melt Sessions, a sauna and cold plunge double act starting in Subiaco in June. While Australia's drinking culture is still something seen as a normal part of social life, Mrs Millar said she hopes the trial can plant the seed for those who are starting to search for more sober experiences. 'It's definitely the seed of an idea. And it's still a very fresh concept for Perth,' she said. 'But we'll see how we go, and we're excited for the journey ahead.'

Gerard Pique backs Luis Enrique to seal Champions League dream at PSG

One of Luis Enrique's former Barcelona stars has backed him to lead Paris Saint-German to a first-ever UEFA Champions League title. The Parisians have been sensational in the knockout stages of the 2024/25 competition as the Ligue 1 champions knocked out Liverpool and Aston Villa. Advertisement Luis Enrique's side have been paired against a third Premier League team in the semi finals as Mikel Arteta stands between him and a final against Inter Milan in Munich on May 31. Ex-Barcelona star Ousmane Dembele's winner clinched a 1-0 first leg victory at the Emirates Stadium as Arteta's side take to the Parc des Princes stage tonight. Pique played in Barcelona's last UCL success – under Luis Enrique in 2015 – alongside winning two La Liga titles with the Asturian coach. Ahead of the crunch showdown with Arsenal, Pique believes this is PSG's chance to end their long wait for a Champions League crown, and his old boss is the perfect person to deliver it. Advertisement 'PSG and Luis Enrique are a clear example of the importance of the coach in today's football,' as per an interview with RMC Sport, via Relevo. Luis Enrique There are many great players, but the most important thing is to have a leader who is convinced of what he does, who convinces the players of the path to follow regardless of whether they have more or less fame, but who are committed to what the team does and who put their talent at the team's disposal. 'This is the great example of PSG this season. 'PSG is a club that has been trying to win the Champions League for I don't know how many years, investing an incredible amount of money. 'Luis Enrique arrived and said he wants committed players, who will fight as a team, he's shown he's a great coach, right now PSG are clear favourites to win the Champions League.'

Ex-Barcelona and Spain star Gerard Pique, 38, 'splits with girlfriend Clara Chia', 26, after three years together and 'third parties may be involved'

Gerard Pique and his girlfriend of three years, Clara Chia, have reportedly broken up. The former Spain and Barcelona star, who retired from football in 2022, has had his love life in the public eye since his 10-year relationship with Shakira, with whom he shares two children. According to Spanish TV show Vamos a ver (Let's See), reported via Marca, journalist Adriana Dorronsoro confirmed that Pique and Chia have split up. Dorronoro went on to say the cause of the split is not yet known but that she has heard that third parties may be involved. Chia, 26, is 12 years younger than Pique and Dorronoro said: 'I have confirmation that Gerard Piqué and Clara Chía have broken up and I am investigating a little into the reasons, because I am hearing from third parties, although it is still not very clear.' She said the source of the information was 'very close to the couple' and did not confirm whether Pique being seen recently in Miami with a redheaded woman was the cause of the breakup. Chia reportedly works for a sports entertainment production company and the couple previously posted numerous pictures together on social media. Pique divides his life between Barcelona and Miami where his children live. Spanish press also report than the 'double life' was a point of contention in his relationship. In June 2022 amid rumours of him cheating after 11 years and two children together (Milan, 11 and Sasha, nine), Shakira announced her and Pique were breaking up. The Colombian music star, 47, has since gone on to brand him 'Voldemort' among other digs in her music. 'In the end, the truth or what happens or occurs is not told in the way it was. I cannot control this,' Pique told CNN, via AS at the time. 'The best thing is that in the end I am surrounded by my loved ones, my family, my friends, the people who really know you. They know what you are like and what you do, and that gives me a lot of peace of mind. 'I am very happy, I have a great time and I feel privileged. The life I have had, being able to play for the club of my life for more than twenty years, wonderful children, an incredible family, lifelong friends, those from school that I still have.' In 2022, Spanish outlet El Periodico reported that the couple had been living separately for a few weeks after Pique was kicked out of the family home by the pop star. There was a theory that Shakira uncovered his alleged cheating by discovering that a jar of strawberry jam in their home together had been eaten while she was away. Shakira was reportedly the only strawberry jam eater in the relationship. However, the South American singer has since debunked that myth. In the summer of 2023, Pique reportedly moved in with Chia- in the home he had shared with Shakira when she first moved to Barcelona but it appears their relationship is also now over.
