Netflix's Best New Kids Show Has High Audience Scores, Is Adorable
My Melody and Kuromi Well, now that my kids are getting older, I am attempting to find them the occasional show to watch with our limited screen time rules that is not Paw Patrol. Sorry pups, I love you but…I've had enough. One new offering on Netflix is the best new kids show that the streamer has offered in a while, and you may want to check it out. It's the adorable My Melody and Kuromi, a Japanese stop-motion series. The movie is based on Sanrio characters, the company creating hundreds of 'kawaii' characters over the years including the global icon, Hello Kitty. Here, My Melody is a rabbit that was originally created in 1975 and has returned for this brand new series literally 50 years later. Man, 1975 does not feel like 50 years ago, does it? I'm getting old. Kuromi, the other rabbit, was originally conceived in 2005. Here's the synopsis of the series: 'My Melody opens a cake shop in Mariland. After encountering a magical heart in the forest, strange things start happening around her. Meanwhile, Kuromi's Japanese sweets shop across the street is always empty. Kuromi searches for the secret to My Melody's cakes. My Melody and Kuromi work hard to prepare for a sweets-making contest judged by the world-famous pastry chef Pistachio. However, no one knows that this will lead to an incident that threatens the fate of Mariland.' My Melody and Kuromi The show has debuted at #4 on Netflix's top 10 list in the US, which has been watching more and more Asian programming, usually Japanese and Korean, in recent years. While the show does not yet have any critic or audience scores in on Rotten Tomatoes, if you head over to IMDB, the show is currently clocking in at an 8.3/10, extremely high in the context of that site. For instance, my son's beloved Paw Patrol is a 6.1/10. Spidey and His Amazing Friends a 5.8/10. Peppa Pig a 6.3/10. A show that bests it? That would be the legendary Bluey, with a 9.3/10. But I mean, you're just not going to beat Bluey. My Melody and Kuromi is an easy watch, with season 1 being 12 episodes that are 11-15 minutes each for breezy viewing and holding attention spans. This is a TV-PG series, not TV-G, though I'm genuinely not sure why. The first episode has Kuromi stealing ingredients from a rival so I mean, crime? I don't know. Check it out, it's very cute and a good family series so far. Follow me on Twitter, YouTube, Bluesky and Instagram. Pick up my sci-fi novels the Herokiller series and The Earthborn Trilogy.

Vogue's guide to the best gelato spots in Singapore
@burntcones In sweltering Singapore, where the heat is ever-pervasive and all-encompassing, few pleasures rival that of a simple frozen sweet treat. Indeed, there's nothing quite like a scoop of rich and creamy gelato on a hot day. For the uninitiated, gelato differs from ice cream in that it is lower in milk fat but higher in flavour intensity, churned slowly and served at a slightly warmer temperature to give it that impossibly soft, smooth and velvety texture. Crafting the perfect gelato is nothing short of an art—and it's one that the best gelato spots in Singapore have certainly mastered. Dotted around town, these chic creameries and minimalist dessert parlours have gone beyond perfecting the classics to develop creative flavours that you won't find anywhere else. Take, for instance, Birds of Paradise, which hardly needs any introduction. With its elegant botanical offerings—think white chrysanthemum sprinkled with cacao nibs, or gorgeous swirls of butterfly pea with macadamia—the beloved gelato boutique has earned itself a recommendation on the Michelin guide year after year. Plus, new kids on the block like unique tofu-based Korean brand Tofu G and Australian cult-favourite Gelato Messina—already having cemented itself as one of the buzziest dessert spots in town—have sparked somewhat of a gelato renaissance as of late. For those seeking a sweet treat, we round up the best gelato spots in Singapore to indulge in a decadent scoop or two. Courtesy of Messina 1 / 6 Messina What sets Australian cult-favourite brand Gelato Messina apart is its commitment to ensuring that every single component of its gelato is perfectly tailored to bring out the best flavour, so much so that the brand operates its own farms to produce most of its own raw ingredients—from Jersey milk and free-range eggs to honey, hazelnuts and mint. The result is a smorgasbord of 40 delicious flavours, including five weekly rotating offerings. Classics such as the Pistachio, Dulce de Leche and Hokey Pokey are undoubtedly delicious, but don't leave without trying the shop's five local specials inspired by durian, kaya toast, teh tarik , tau huay and salted egg. 1 Club St, Singapore 069400 Courtesy of Birds of Paradise 2 / 6 Birds of Paradise A household name through and through, locals flock to Birds of Paradise for its specially-churned botanical gelato—flavoured with real and natural ingredients like fruits, flowers, pods, herbs and spices. The result? One-of-a-kind flavours like the refreshing Strawberry Basil and White Chrysanthemum sprinkled with cacao nibs. 53 Craig Rd, #01-01, Singapore 089691 @burntcones 3 / 6 Burnt Cones Signature cones that bear a slight char? It can only be Burnt Cones. Since its humble beginnings in the West, the local gelato brand has gone on to expand in other parts of the island. From special cones to smoky waffles, there's already plenty to indulge in but one would most definitely be spoiled when it comes to its range of gelato flavours that are freshly churned daily. Classics that include Madagascan Vanilla and Pistachio as well as limited flavours for the month—featuring a delightful Matcha Strawberry. #01-K9/13 United Square, Singapore 307591 Courtesy of Tofu G 4 / 6 Tofu G In Korean culture, tofu is seen as a symbol for new beginnings—a white, blank slate if you will. It is this sentiment that gets playfully elevated in Tofu G, an ice cream parlour where tofu is transformed into its star ingredient. Think scoops of creamy, indulgent tofu gelato—sincerely crafted for a refined palette. If a first visit is par for the course, be sure to grab a scoop of the original flavour that is sure to satisfy the senses, before you dive into its other flavours, such as a nutty Black Sesame Gelato or Korean Sweet Potato Gelato. The parlour also offers high-protein, non-dairy and vegan-friendly alternatives, so you can be sure there's something for everyone. 333A Orchard Rd, #02-21 Mandarin Gallery, Singapore 238897 Courtesy of Momolato 5 / 6 Momolato A world of enticing flavours awaits at Momolato. Dreamed up by the award-winning gelato expert Sharon Tay, the wholesale ice-cream parlour has been crafting Muslim-friendly gelato for a myriad of cafes and restaurants around town, ever since its inception a decade ago. With its kooky street hideout established in 2021, the late-night spot offers a dizzying array of its gelato flavours, running the gamut from botanicals such as a Yuzu Hibiscus Flower or Hibiscus Apple to rich, fascinating swirls of a Hokkaido milk gelato and blue pea flowers or an oolong tea-infused hojicha pick. 723 N Bridge Rd, Singapore 198691 @venchi_sg 6 / 6 Venchi Beloved Italian brand Venchi might be better known for its incredible chocolate, but its gelato deserves just as much praise. Freshly made every day in the traditional and authentic Italian way, here's where you'll want to head to for the classic flavours done masterfully well. As expected, its chocolate gelato offerings—from the Stracciatella to the Chocoviar 75%—are some of the best in town, but don't miss out on the its Pistachio and Hazelnut flavours either, crafted with Bronte green pistachios and Piedmont hazelnuts respectively. I just tried Nespresso's limited-edition Pistachio collection, and it's the pop of color I didn't know my kitchen needed
The best Nespresso machines are convenient, easy to use, and look great. But if you're someone who enjoys adding color to your countertops, the brand's lineup just got better. Now available in a limited edition summer color called Pistachio, the Pop+ brings some retro charm to the kitchen, without skipping out on modern features. I love a colorful kitchen gadget. My Moccamaster is bright orange, and I've also got a sage green Ninja Crispi, so I was very keen to try the new limited-edition machine for myself. And if (like me) your ears prick up at the word pistachio, you'll also be interested in pairing your Nespresso with the brand's new limited edition pistachio vanilla coffee pods. I made a whole fleet of drinks in the Pistachio Pop+, including a number of the limited edition coffees over ice. Here's how it went. Nespresso's Limited-Edition Pistachio Vanilla Coffee Pods retail in packs of 10 for a limited time, and you can buy them in Nespresso boutiques or direct from the brand's website. The Vertuo Pop+ is the neatest Vertuo machine on the market. With a compact frame, decent-sized used pod container, and available now in this limited-edition summer color, I think it's worth the $139. I'll be reviewing the Nespresso Vertuo Pop+ soon, but to give a sneak peek of my first impressions, it's an incredibly attractive machine. I first tested it in the Tom's Guide test kitchen, and a number of colleagues came over to check it out! At just 10 inches tall, 14 inches deep and 8 inches wide, the machine is seriously petite. Thankfully, the drip tray can be removed to accommodate most mugs, but you'll struggle to fit a taller glass under the dispenser. I did note that Nespresso's smaller Nomad travel cup just about fits, which will be welcome news if you want to buy into the entire Nespresso ecosystem. Aesthetically, the combination of muted pistachio green and a light cream feels very retro. My home is decorated in a loosely midcentury style, and I could see this fitting right in. Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips. Using the machine couldn't be easier. To open your machine, you twist the dial on the top of the hinged brewing compartment. The machine lifts automatically, and lifts your spent coffee pod out of the holder and into a waste bin, which I noted holds a surprisingly large amount of pods. I counted eight brews before I needed to empty it. Once your pod is inserted, you can press the lid down and lock it back into place. Pre-heat takes about three seconds once you've pressed the machine's one button, and dispensing starts automatically after that. As for the limited-edition Pistachio flavor, I dished out many iced lattes to my intrigued colleagues during the testing process, and the results were mixed. You'd expect these pods to be sweet, but the nutty and floral notes are slightly confusing against a dark-roasted bean without any sweetness. The flavor mostly comes from the scent (which is lovely) and really sings when you pour a dash of vanilla syrup into your iced cup. The pods are designed to be poured over ice, so I wondered if the machine would automatically extract the coffee at a lower temperature to offset the inevitable melting that would come as the pod pours. But no, from the Pop+ at least, the coffee was piping hot until it hit my ice. However, because this is a shorter pod, it's designed to brew strong and be diluted by ice and maybe a dash of milk, and my finished coffee was still punchy. It's not my favorite limited-edition flavor Nespresso has done, but it's the ideal summer offering, especially when paired with the Pistachio Pop+. I'll be writing my full review of the Pop+ in the coming weeks, but if you're smitten with Nespresso's limited edition color, act fast while stock lasts.
