NewJeans and ADOR go to trial: Both unable to reach an agreement
The latest in NewJeans' case against their management company ADOR seems to be getting messier. The two parties have reportedly not yet been able to reach an agreement that benefits them both. NewJeans and their management company fail to reach an agreement NewJeans and their former agency had another hearing on Thursday. This marks the fourth hearing altogether. As per the Korea JoongAng Daily reports, the attempt at this trial was to ensure that both NewJeans as well as their company reach a mutual understanding; however, the matter was not resolved. The hearing took place at the Seoul Central District Court in the afternoon on August 14, and was attended by the legal representatives of both the group and the company. NewJeans members Minji and Danielle were also present at the court hearing. They had each presented their side of the argument and their needs and requirements for reaching an understanding. Since this attempt did not bring out anything fruitful, the next hearing has been set for September 11. About the legal battle The case itself began almost a year ago when the girl group alleged that their contracts with the company had become obsolete due to the fact that terms in the contract were breached by the company. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 15 Most Beautiful Female Athletes in the World Click Here Undo The opposing argument was presented, which stated that no such thing has happened, and in return, their company filed for an injunction, citing that the group does not promote individually without the company. The court had ruled in favour of the company, and the girls' promotions for their new song 'Pit Stop' came to a halt. Now, in recent hearings, after the court ruled that the contracts are not null and void, NewJean' legal representation has cited that the abuse that the girls went through should be considered. They have also shared that the group will join the company once the former CEO, Min Hee Jin, is reinstated. Local racer wins trophy
Noah Kitto, 16, of Dunedin, proudly shows his Youth Saloon Competitor of the Year trophy. PHOTO: SAM HENDERSON A teen racer has shifted into top gear on the national stage. Noah Kitto, of Dunedin, was named Youth Saloon Competitor of the Year at the New Zealand Speedway Awards recently held in Auckland. After being named a finalist and travelling to Auckland for the awards night, Noah did not expect to take away the trophy. "I knew I had a good season and I was hoping to win it but I never believed I would actually be able to win. "The second my name got announced I don't remember anything else." Inspired by his grandfather, Charlie Hayde, who competed at Beachlands Speedway in the 1980s, Noah began racing in the 2021 season. He has raced a Honda Integra DA6 at Beachlands for the past two years. Last year's season was filled with setbacks. "We spent it chasing a whole bunch of mechanical gremlins all season long and had no luck. "This season we rebuilt the car, reshelled the lot. "It is the same car but just into a new body." The rebuild turned his performance around in the most recent season. Although he had little practice before the season began in November, a new focus on being "really competitive" paid off. "I went out and won my first race from six on the grid. "Then from there, it just went up and up and up." When the next season starts in November, Noah will move from the youth saloon class to the adult production category. He will start the campaign in a new car, a Mitsubishi FTO 2-litre V6. Driving a more powerful car, the new grade will enable Noah to take part in events beyond Beachlands. "I'm able to go race at more tracks now and compete at more events." He hopes to earn a place on the Dunedin Young Guns production saloon team at Beachlands Speedway. He also plans to contest championships offered in the adult production level. Noah is also aiming to gain a spot at the Aotearoa Production Cup at Cromwell Speedway. A student at Otago Boys' High School, he has spent his holidays interning at Pit Stop in South Dunedin. He thanked Pit Stop and his other sponsors and highlighted the achievements of his fellow local finalists and winners. Beachlands Speedway president Matt Stewart, of Dunedin, received the Wendy Coutts Award for Contribution to Speedway. Jareb Verdoner, of Balclutha, was awarded Streetstock Competitor of the Year and Daryl Shuttleworth, of Invercargill, was named Speedway Commentator of the Year.

Court orders K-pop girl group NewJeans to pay agency Ador $933,000 for each unauthorised activity
K-pop girl band NewJeans began independent activities after ending their contracts with the K-pop agency in November 2024, citing a breach of exclusivity. PHOTO: REUTERS SEOUL – South Korea's Seoul Central District Court has ruled that each member of NewJeans, the K-pop girl group under Hybe subsidiary Ador, must pay one billion won (S$933,000) to the agency for every entertainment activity carried out without its prior consent. The quintet – made up of members Minji, Danielle, Haerin, Hanni and Hyein – began independent activities after ending their contracts with the K-pop agency in November 2024, citing a breach of exclusivity. In January, Ador filed an injunction to block the group's solo activities and assert its role as NewJeans' management agency. According to a South Korean report, the Seoul court on May 29 accepted Ador's request for an indirect compulsory execution, a legal mechanism used to pressure a party to comply with a court order by imposing monetary penalties for non-compliance. 'Since NewJeans violated the obligations set by the injunction by performing under a new group name and even releasing new songs before and after the injunction ruling, it is necessary to impose indirect compulsory enforcement to ensure compliance with the order,' the court ruled. 'If the debtors violate these obligations from the date they receive the official copy of this decision, they must pay one billion won per violation to the creditor,' it added. The ruling does not apply retrospectively, sparing the five members from owing billions of won for unauthorised activities they have undertaken since unilaterally declaring their exclusive contracts to be terminated. 'Until a verdict on the first trial on the ongoing lawsuit regarding the validity of NewJeans' exclusive contracts is delivered, the members are prohibited from engaging in any entertainment-related activities without Ador's prior approval,' the court stated. In March, the same court sided with Ador in a preliminary injunction that barred NewJeans from signing individual endorsement or entertainment deals outside the agency's purview, further reinforcing the label's legal position in the ongoing conflict. NewJeans rebranded themselves as NJZ in February before the ruling. After the ruling in March, they performed at music festival ComplexCon in Hong Kong and debuted a new song, Pit Stop. They then announced onstage they would go on hiatus out of respect for the court decision. The second hearing in the ongoing main lawsuit to determine the validity of the contracts is scheduled for June 5. K-Pop Group NewJeans Vows to Continue Label Battle Despite Court Setback: ‘This Fight Is Necessary'
In their first interview since a South Korean court blocked their attempt to leave record label Ador, K-pop phenomenon NewJeans told the BBC they will continue to fight despite the setback. 'This fight is necessary. Although it will be extremely difficult and arduous, we will keep doing what we have done so far and speak up,' said Haerin, one of the group's five members. More from Variety BTS Japanese Fan Summoned by South Korean Police for Kissing Jin Without Consent K-Pop Girl Group Hearts2Hearts Launched by SM Entertainment With Debut Single K-Pop Girl Group AtHeart Full Lineup Unveiled as Titan Content Sets Partnership With Imperial Music The court ruling, which ordered NewJeans — made up of Haerin, Hanni, Minji, Danielle and Hyein — to cease all 'independent' activities while their case against Ador is ongoing, came as a 'shock' to the group, who learned of the decision while rehearsing for a performance in Hong Kong. 'Some people think that we're famous enough to do whatever we want and say whatever we please. But the truth is, it's not like that at all,' Hyein told the BBC. 'We held it in for a long time, and only now have we finally spoken up about what we think, what we feel and the unfairness we've experienced.' In a statement to the BBC, Ador maintained that the contract with NewJeans remains valid, suggesting that 'most of their claims have risen from misunderstandings.' The court sided with Ador, stating that NewJeans did not 'sufficiently prove' contract violations and that the label had fulfilled 'most of its duties.' Despite the court order, NewJeans performed their new single 'Pit Stop' under their rebranded name 'NJZ' at their Hong Kong concert, which culminated in a tearful announcement of their hiatus. Since their 2022 debut, NewJeans has achieved remarkable success, becoming the eighth biggest-selling act in the world within just a year. The group's dispute with Ador intensified after Min Hee-jin, their mentor and Ador's former CEO, engaged in a public feud with parent company HYBE, which culminated in Min's departure from the label. As the legal battle continues, with hearings set to begin next week, NewJeans remains steadfast in their unity. 'We've always said to each other, if one person doesn't want to do it, then we're not going to do it. It has to be all five of us that agrees to do it,' Hanni told the BBC. While the length of their hiatus remains uncertain, with Ador expressing hope to meet with the group soon, NewJeans insists they don't feel protected enough to return to the label. Despite the challenges ahead, the members remain determined, with Hanni affirming, 'We're gonna get through it.'
