Nebraska volleyball releases 2025 schedule
Nebraska volleyball releases 2025 schedule Nebraska released the volleyball schedule for the 2025 season earlier this week. The Huskers finished the 2024 season with a 33-3 record. They also won the Big Ten title with a 19-1 conference mark. They entered the NCAA Tournament as the third overall seed, making it all the way to the semifinals before falling to eventual national champion Penn State. One of the key storylines for this season will be new coach Dani Busboom Kelly. She took over in January 2025, following the retirement of legendary coach John Cook. Now, Nebraska volleyball will begin a new era. The Huskers kick off the season on Friday, Aug. 22, when they host the Pitt Panthers at Pinnacle Bank Arena as part of the AVCA First Serve Showcase. They start Big Ten play against the Michigan Wolverines on Wednesday, Sep. 24, in Lincoln, Nebraska. They close the 2025 season on Nov. 29 at home against Ohio State. The program looks poised for another major run in 2025, but will have to try to replace All-Americans Lexi Rodriguez and Merritt Beason. Things will look a bit different on the sidelines without Cook, but the program should be in good hands with a new head coach, and most of last season's starters are returning. Aidan Knaak, Erik Bakich on 'magical' Clemson baseball no-hitter vs ACC foe
Aidan Knaak, Erik Bakich on 'magical' Clemson baseball no-hitter vs ACC foe Aidan Knaak etched his name into the Clemson baseball history books on Thursday night at Charles L. Cost Field in Pittsburgh. The sophomore right-hander teamed with Joe Allen and Lucas Mahlstedt on a combined no-hitter for a much-needed 6-1 Clemson victory over the Pitt Panthers in ACC play. Knaak threw 7 1/3 innings in the no-hitter, the 15th in Clemson history and the first since 2009. He allowed one run and four walks, tying a career-high 12 strikeouts and throwing 112 pitches. According to Clemson Sports Information director Brian Hennessy, it was the Tigers' first no-hitter against an ACC opponent since April 17, 1976 (vs. Virginia) and their first ever no-hitter on the road against a conference foe. "Talk about just what the doctor ordered," Clemson coach Erik Bakich said on the field afterwards. "Elite pitching covers up a lot of things. Not just elite pitching, we had an outlier unicorn. Awesome performance and just what this team needed at this time." Entering Thursday's game, the opener of the final regular-season series before next week's ACC Tournament in Durham, N.C., Clemson (39-15 overall, 16-12 conference) had dropped eight of its last 10 games. "It was special, magical," Bakich said. "Awesome night. Huge tip of the cap to Aidan Knaak, Joe Allen and Lucas Mahlstedt combining for that. Just a great way to set the tone and a great way to be 1-0 to start the series. There's a lot of work left to be done in this series, but for this whole team to be part of a historic night is very special." Knaak, who improved to 8-1 with a 4.25 ERA in his 14th start of 2025, was quick to credit Allen, Mahlstedt and teammates afterwards. "Outstanding performance by the whole pitching staff," Knaak said. "Joe came in when there was adversity shown and picked me up. Then Joe faced some adversity and Subby (Mahlstedt) picked him up. All together, great pitching staff, not to mention Jacob Jarrell behind the dish making it all happen. Really proud of this win." Jarrell finished 4-for-5 at the plate with his team-leading 12th home run of the season. His four hits were a career high. Jack Crighton (2-5), Jarren Purify (2-5) and Andrew Ciufo (2-4) all added two hits apiece as Clemson totaled 13 hits. Purify hit his fifth home run of the season to lead off the eighth inning. Pitt scored its only run in the bottom of the eighth on a wild pitch from Knaak after he had walked the leadoff man. The Tigers, ranked No. 13 in this week's USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll, will look to get their first series win since taking two of three from Louisville back on April 18. First pitch for Game 2 in the series is scheduled for 3 p.m. ET Friday. Right-hander Drew Titsworth (4-1, 4.31 ERA) is slated to start for Clemson. The game can be seen on ACC Network Extra. Pitt Panthers Wideout Konata Mumpfield Selected In Seventh Round Of NFL Draft
Wide receiver Konata Mumpfield was the third of three Pittsburgh Panthers players selected in the 2025 NFL Draft. The Los Angeles Rams picked Mumpfield with the 26th selection of the 7th Round, the final round of the draft's final day. He was pick number 242 overall. Mumpfield was the third among Panthers teammates OT Branson Taylor and TE Gavin Bartholomew to be drafted. Advertisement Here is part of Mumpfield's draft profile from Athlon Sports: After transferring from Akron in 2022, Mumpfield led Pitt in receptions in two of the last three seasons. In those three years, he had 154 catches for 1,940 yards and 11 touchdowns. His 52 receptions for 813 yards yards last season led the Panthers in both categories. At 5'11'' and 186-Lbs. with just average speed, Mumpfield doesn't have measurables that jump off the charts. However, he's a good route runner with reliable hands that has the short-area quickness to get separation. He adjusts extremely well to off-target throws and has outstanding mid-air body control. After the catch, Mumpfield is very elusive in the open field to pick up extra yardage. He'll need to expand his route tree with improved precision but can be a viable threat as a short and intermediate receiver with deep ball capabilities. Konata Mumpfield is the second Pitt wideout to be drafted in the last two years. He follows Bub Means, who was a fifth-round choice by the New Orleans Saints last season. Advertisement Mumpfield will have the chance to carve out a role in a Rams offense that attacks defenses with route combinations that fit well with Mumpfield's best attributes. Pitt Panthers Quarterback Julian Dugger Announces Transfer Destination
Former Pitt Panthers quarterback Julian Dugger officially announced his new collegiate destination. Dugger will suit up for the Washington State Cougars next season. After appearing in only one game for Pitt last year, Dugger was eligible for a redshirt as a freshman and will have four years of eligibility remaining for Washington State. Credit: Pittsburgh Post-Gazette Dugger's lone game appearance came during the Panthers loss to Toledo in the GameAbove Sports Bowl. He was dynamic in nearly carrying Pitt to a comeback win in the 48-46 defeat in six overtimes. A 6'3" and 210-Lb. left-handed quarterback, Dugger was an explosive dual-threat for Penn Hills High School in western Pennsylvania before attending Pitt. With the Panthers committed to now-sophomore quarterback Eli Holstein, Dugger announced his plans to transfer shortly into the offseason. However, they'll both face competition from Dugger, Sheppard, and incoming freshmen Dalton Anderson and Owen Eshelman. Julian Dugger leaves a Pitt Panthers team that started the 2024-25 season by winning their first seven games but lost their last six contests of the year. After his performance in Pitt's bowl game, most expected that Panthers offensive coordinator Kade Bell would find a role for Dugger.
