Pittsburg police collect medications during National Drug Take Back Day
PITTSBURG, Kans. — The Pittsburg police department does its part to reduce medication misuse in the Four States. Today was the US Drug Enforcement Administration's 27th annual National Prescription Drug Take Back Day. The community could safely dispose of unwanted prescription medication at the Pittsburg law enforcement center. Police collected tablets, capsules, patches, and other solid medications, as well as needles and inhalers. This year, the department also partnered with the 'Crawford County Mental Health Center' to offer free gun locks, medicine lock bags, and mental health resources. 'I just hope to get the word out, pass out some swag and, you know, be a friendly face that hopefully those in need that might benefit from therapy, medication management, other services will take away information and hopefully walk through our doors if they need help,' said Jason Southard, Crawford County Mental Health Center director of access. 'Kids can get into some other people can get into them, people can take them, and people just keep them because they don't know what they can do with them. You don't flush them down the toilet. That's bad. Don't do that. Bring them down and we will take care of them,' said Cheryl Landon, Pittsburg Police Department detective. If you missed today's event, you can drop off medications, but not needles or liquids, in a drug take back box in the law enforcement center lobby any day. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc.
