Pittsfield begins phase two of hydrant flushing on Monday

PITTSFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – The city of Pittsfield is beginning its second phase of the spring water system flushing schedule on Monday. Hundreds of volunteers gather in Springfield for Green N Fit Neighborhood Rebuild Water mains throughout Pittsfield will be flushed through the hydrants over the next few weeks to remove pipeline corrosion products within the city's water. With phase one complete, phase two is scheduled to occur between Monday, April 28 and Friday, May 2. City officials said that mains will be flushed each day from 7:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Local flushing may cause discolored water and reduced serving pressure conditions in the immediate area where work is being performed, but measures will be taken to ensure that disinfections are maintained. Residents who experience discolored water in their homes this week should let the water run for a brief time to clear it. Phase two of hydrant flushing is expected to affect the following areas: Unkamet Park Drive heading west up North Street, working north to Broadway and Lakeview Streets neighborhood Plastics Avenue, moving west on Dalton Avenue, including Allendale and Allengate neighborhoods. Moving west onto Tyler Street into Morningside neighborhood, including Springside Avenue, pushing west to North Street Lincoln and Fenn Streets, Silver Lake, Wendell Avenue and surrounding vicinity, pushing west to North Street South Mountain and Tamarack roads, Dan Fox Drive, and south to the Pittsfield/Lenox line The city of Pittsfield says that flushing is an important procedure that contributes to the maintenance of the city's water quality. If residents experience persisting discoloration of water or low-pressure conditions during this time period, contact the Pittsfield Water Department at 413-499-9339.
