Jeremy Piven: Entourage star labels Perth ‘meth capital of Australia' following recent visit

Best known for his work as no-filter Hollywood agent Ari Gold in HBO's Entourage, TV star Jeremy Piven has proven he hasn't quite shaken the character after labelling Perth the 'meth capital of Australia'. Attending the premiere of his latest film Primitive War in Sydney on Monday night, Piven was pushed to name his 'favourite place' Down Under after an extended period touring his stand-up show. But the comic's initial remarks were far from complimentary, at least towards the west coast. 'In the middle of my tour, we headed over to Perth, which is the meth capital of Australia... I don't know if you know that,' he told DailyMail. 'And so in the spirit of Donald Trump, I want to rename Perth, 'Merth'.' The 60-year-old performed at Mt Lawley's Astor Theatre on August 6, following an East Coast jaunt that featured stops in Melbourne, Sydney, and Brisbane, and later Adelaide. However, after laughing off the comments, the star changed his tune and dropped his favourite local hang out. 'The reality is, I went to a cigar bar called The Social Club there and it was one of the best cigar lounges I've ever been to in my life,' he revealed. The two-time Emmy winner may have been referring to Cigar Social, a private, members-only cigar lounge in West Perth. PerthNow reached out to Cigar Social, with the venue choosing not to confirm nor deny Piven's attendance. Speaking more broadly about his stand-up tour, the actor reflected on the warm reception he'd received across the nation. 'Every stop that I had, whether it was the Enmore Theatre here in Sydney or going to Melbourne and playing Hamer Hall, they were some of the best times I've ever had in my life,' he said. 'Sold out houses... It was just incredible. I loved it.' The actor stars alongside Australia's Ryan Kwanten and Canadian Tricia Helfer in Primitive War, a horror film set amid the Vietnam War that was filmed in the Gold Coast's jungle. It follows Piven's other Aussie production Numbered Lives, a thriller shot in South Australia last year that was released nationally earlier this month.

The Entourage star arrived at Nova 100's Melbourne studios for the Jase & Lauren show on Friday morning straight off his red-eye flight from Perth, and understandably, he found it hard to find his bearings. The hosts had to cut the broadcast...... ... more Piven is currently in Australia for his stand-up tour, which kicked off on August 2 in Sydney before performing in Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide this weekend. As hosts Jason Hawkins and Lauren Phillips tried to make the Hollywood star feel welcome with promises of hash browns and coffee, Piven reiterated that the flight took a lot out of him. 'I just got off a plane from Perth and what's amazing is I'm on this tour,' he began, before Phillips attempted to cut him off after which he told her to 'let me just finish real quick'. 'I'm so excited to be in Australia and I'm going to all these beautiful places and all of a sudden they throw Perth in the mix and that's when everything goes off the rails. The five-and-half-hours flight will throw you off.' Jeremy Piven (top left) dropped the C-word in an 'unhinged' radio interview with Nova 100 in Melbourne Piven – best known for playing talent agent Ari Gold in Entourage – said he is grateful for all the fans for watching him at Perth's Astor Theatre on Wednesday night, except for one person in the audience, who he said was from the UK. 'My show in Perth, sold out – unbelievable,' he said. 'There was only one c**t in the whole room.' A collective 'ahhh' could be heard in the studio before the audio was bleeped out. 'We're back, we're back. I've had to dump us!' Hawkins said on air seconds later before cutting to a commercial break. Once back on air, Piven again apologised for dropping the C-word. 'I'm sorry about that,' he repeated. 'I don't know where I am. I'm just gonna be totally unhinged.' Phillips said all was forgiven as Piven explained that he just isn't a morning person. 'As a life long performer – I started performing on stage when I was eight – so you have to understand, I peak at night,' he said, before sarcastically adding, 'So here we are in the morning.' Piven is currently in Australia for his stand-up tour. Picture:Phillips then asked, 'Who's idea was this? Which publicist is gonna absolutely cop a spray for getting you in here at 6?' 'I think the publicist wanted me to have a public … complete emotional breakdown,' Piven replied. When the hosts urged him to get some sleep before his show on Friday night at Hamer Hall in Southbank, Piven said 'sleep is for p***ies'. 'As soon as you go out on stage, there is nothing like it,' he said. 'Then I get to perform for a live audience and I just love to crush it. No matter, what you find that energy.' Earlier in the chat, when Hawkins asked Piven about how it felt to turn 60 last month, Piven also pounced on that comment. With Entourage castmates (from left): Adrian Grenier, Jerry Ferrara, Kevin Connolly, Piven and Kevin Dillon. 'So brother, this is what's going on inside your brain: 'This guy hasn't slept, now let's talk about his age.' You are just like poking the bear,' Piven quipped. However, after a few bumpy moments, the Hollywood star warmed up when he spoke about his love for Australia. He was just here last year for a stand-up tour and has come back this month with more material for fans. 'I love it here. You've got to go where you're loved, not where you're tolerated,' he said on air. 'You know, the people here have been so good to me … if I hear an Australian accent, they're always coming over to me, and they're really kind.' 'All my shows are sold out. People are smart. They get the jokes … and if you're not funny, they're going to be silent. And if you're funny, you're going to crush it.' Jeremy Piven credits family support helped fuel comedic career

(NewsNation) — Actor and comedian Jeremy Piven has been on the road with his stand-up comedy tour, but this week he's bringing the laughs back to Chicago, where it all began. The three-time Emmy Award winner is set to film his comedy special this Friday at The Vic Theatre, with two shows at 7:30 p.m. and 10 p.m. He told 'Morning in America' that choosing Chicago was a no-brainer. 'This is my favorite place in the world,' Piven said. 'I knew I wanted to shoot my special here because I'm home.' Forensic video expert to testify in Diddy trial Piven recently buried his mother, Joyce Piven, in Chicago, whom he credits as a foundational part of his life and career. She helped shape his career with one rule: 'You can say whatever you want as long as it's funny.' 'That was very empowering because you felt like you had something to say,' Piven said. I've been improvising since I was a kid and trying to get my own lines in whatever I was filming … every once in a while I'd slip in an improv and it would make it into maybe a catch phrase like 'Let's hug it out —–.'' Piven also spoke about the raw challenge of doing stand-up. 'To do stand-up, you have to be willing to walk through public humiliation, and people don't want to be humiliated,' he said. But being from Chicago, I don't think people in this community realize how important they are because they support creative types. So, they go out and watch someone at a 99-seat black box or the Goodman or the Pitman Theatre so that we get reps, so that by the time we go out there on a national stage, we're ready because the community has supported us.' Blake Lively withdraws some claims against Justin Baldoni In addition to his comedy, Piven recently starred in 'The Performance,' a film he calls the best work of his life. Directed by his sister and based on a short story given to him by his late mother, the film explores a Jewish tap dancer who is recruited to perform a one-night engagement in Berlin in the 1930s. 'It's just incredible work that I knew if I could pull it off, which we did by the way, then it'll be the best work of my life,' he said. 'My sister did a brilliant job. It'll be out this year, and it's a tribute to my mom.' As for the comedy special, Piven hopes audiences leave with more than just laughter and walk away with a sense of who he is.
