Pixel Watch 4 leak once again points to life-saving feature (APK teardown)
Rita El Khoury / Android Authority TL;DR Recent code findings in the Satellite Gateway app corroborate that the Pixel Watch 4 could feature emergency satellite communications. This satellite connectivity feature appears to be exclusive to Pixel Watch devices, with code specifically referencing 'isPixelWatch.' It's possible the feature could be routed through a satellite-compatible Pixel phone, potentially allowing it to come to older Pixel Watch generations in the future. The Pixel Watch 4 is expected to introduce some nifty changes, like its polarizing new charger, which you can love and hate simultaneously, and even a Breathing Emergencies tool to detect when your oxygen level falls too low. Leaks have suggested that we can look forward to Emergency Satellite Communications on the Pixel Watch 4. Now, we've spotted more clues to corroborate that this feature is indeed coming to Google's upcoming smartwatch. Authority Insights story on Android Authority. An APK teardown helps predict features that may arrive on a service in the future based on work-in-progress code. However, it is possible that such predicted features may not make it to a public release. The Satellite Gateway app is one of the apps responsible for the Satellite SOS features on Pixel phones. In the latest v20250707 of the Satellite Gateway app, we've spotted several bits of code that directly reference the feature within the context of a smartwatch: Code Copy Text " Here, ' references the Adaptive Connectivity Service app, which helps direct the UI for pointing your device towards a satellite for connection. We also see a mention of 'watchui' in the activity, which clearly indicates the feature making its way to a smartwatch. But is the emergency satellite communications feature coming to all Wear OS smartwatches? Several parts of the obfuscated code for the satellite connectivity feature includes checks like 'isPixelDevice:%s' and, more importantly, 'isPixelWatch:%s,' indicating that the feature is most likely destined only for the Pixel Watch. The next question is whether the emergency satellite communications feature will be exclusive to the Pixel Watch 4. We haven't spotted any code that specifically ties the emergency satellite communications to the Pixel Watch 4. Further, devices need specialized hardware for satellite connectivity. We've seen Google's biggest competitor, Apple, offer features like Emergency SOS via satellite for the Apple Watch, but this connection is routed through a compatible iPhone rather than undertaken through the smartwatch itself. It would make sense if Google adopts a similar route, as internal space is significantly constrained within a smartwatch. Suppose Google routes Pixel Watch 4's upcoming emergency satellite communications feature through the phone (potentially a Pixel phone only, i.e., serving merely as an extension for Satellite SOS on Pixel). In that case, there's also the possibility that the feature could come to older generations of the Pixel Watch. Don't hold your breath, though, as the company might keep the feature exclusive to the new watch hardware and only open it up to older watches through software updates farther in the future. Google hasn't shared any confirmation for the Pixel Watch 4 or its leaked Satellite SOS feature. We'll keep you updated when we learn more. Follow

The next Made By Google event (better known as the Pixel launch) is set for August 20
Google will host its next Made by Google event on August 20, the company announced today. In a media invite, it promised the event would feature new Pixel phones, watches, buds "and more." It's hard to imagine what other product types might be covered by those last two words, but for those who watch the industry closely, this event is likely to see the launch of the Pixel 10 flagship phones, along with a Pixel Watch 4 and new Pixel Buds. It's easy to make that deduction, especially going by previous Made By Google events. At last year's hardware launch, Google announced the Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, Pixel 9 Pro Fold, Pixel Watch 3 and Pixel Buds Pro 2. Between that and the company's invite, we can expect a refresh of nearly the entire Pixel line. As for what the "and more" bit could entail, recent rumors suggesting Google is working on a proper response to Apple's MagSafe tech dubbed Pixelsnap. Android manufactures have been slow to adopt the Qi2 wireless charging standard, but with the upcoming Pixel 10 it appears the company is working on a host of magnetic Qi2 accessories, including a new charging stand. As always, be sure to visit Engadget on the day of the event as we'll have a liveblog of the entire proceedings. Update, July 16 2025, 1:50PM ET: This story has been updated to include a list of devices we expect Google to unveil on August 20.

Made by Pixel event set for August 20 — Pixel 10, Pixel Watch 4 and more
When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. Google has sent out invitations to its next "Made by Google" hardware event, giving us a firm date for when we can expect to see the next generation of Pixel 10 phones. In addition to the latest flagship phones from Google, this year's launch should also include our first look at a new Pixel Watch 4. The event takes places Wednesday, August 20, where Google says it "introduce the latest to additions to our Pixel portfolio of devices." The invitation doesn't specify what will debut on August 20. But the timing would suggest that the Pixel 10 lineup — which is likely to include the Pixel 10 Pro, Pixel 10 Pro XL, and the Pixel 10 Pro Fold alongside a standard Pixel 10 — would appear. Last year, Google moved its Pixel phone launch up from its traditional October release to the earlier August window and it appears that schedule is here to stay. What's new with the Pixel 10 family? The Pixel 9a released earlier this year dropped Google's horizontal camera bar, but cases leaks point to the Pixel 10 keeping Google's standard camera design. For the most part, screen sizes should also remain the same as last year models, with the Pixel 10 and 10 Pro both featuring 6.3-inch displays. The Pixel 10 Pro XL is likely to offer a 6.8-inch screen. A recent specs leak revealed an 8-inch inner display and a 6.4-inch cover screen for the Pixel 10 Pro Fold, slightly bigger than last year's Pixel 9 Pro Fold. The big question will be what power these handsets. Likely it will be system-on-chip labeled the Tensor G5, the first chip Google has made entirely from scratch. It's been rumored that the G5 will be made at TSMC using its 3nm process, a move away from Samsung which had manufactured the previous Tensor processors. Though recent leakers have claimed that the G5 is "basically TSMC-made version of G4" hinting at 4nm chip, and a prototype SoC was recently leaked with Samsung markings. If Google has made the move to TSMC with its 3nm processor, expect a faster, more efficient chip compared to the Tensor G4. However, it's quite unclear at this moment Beyond that, the Pixel 10s should launch with Android 16, which recently arrived and has already hit current Pixels, bringing a number of unique and exclusive software features. An interface redesign is coming, too. Google Pixel Watch 4 expected upgrades Unlike the Pixel 10 phones, not many rumors have sprouted up around the Pixel Watch 4. That said, there are a few upgrades we believe Google could announce. In April, leaker OnLeaks posted renders of the new watch and unlike the new Galaxy Watch 8, Google seems to be sticking with a similar aesthetic as the Pixel Watch 3. The renders did reveal a slightly thicker 14.3mm watch compared to the Pixel Watch 3 which measures at 12.3mm. It also showed two sizes; 41mm and 45mm with slightly thinner bezels. They also showed a lack of charging pins which suggests that the Pixel Watch 4 will support wireless charging, a feature the Pixel Watch desperately needs even if the Pixel Watch 3 garnered near-perfect ratings in our review. Beyond that, we don't know much else. We can look to Samsung's recent smartwatch releases for hints at what's coming with WearOS and health upgrades, but the Korean company's wearables are different enough that it's not a 1-to-1 comparison. Anything else? It's possible that Apple could announce other products, but for now, the Pixel 10 family and the Pixel Watch 4 are the only devices we expect to see. Until then we have to wait a month for that August 20 reveal. Fresh Pixel 10 leak shows off the series in more than just Moonstone
Google TL;DR More renders of the Pixel 10 series have emerged online. This leak also includes images of the Pixel Watch 4 and Pixel Buds Pro 2. It has been a busy week for Pixel 10 series leaks. Google even joined in on the fun by releasing a teaser, which was followed up by an accidental leak of official imagery. If that wasn't enough to satiate you until next month's Made by Google event, even more renders have now emerged. Earlier today, tipster Evan Blass took to X (formerly Twitter) to release a batch of good-quality renders of the Pixel 10 Pro, Pixel 10 Pro XL, Pixel Buds Pro 2, and Pixel Watch 4. All of those renders featured the devices in their new gray color that Google has dubbed 'Moonstone.' However, it's believed that the color may be called 'Sterling' for Google's earbuds. If you were hoping to see some of the other color options, Blass has now shared a second wave of images. While we do see more of the Moonstone color here, we also get a glimpse at 'Indigo' (blue), 'Jade' (green with gold trim), and 'Obsidian' (black). The Indigo colorway will be exclusive to the base model, while Jade will be available across the Pro models. Tagging along, the Pixel Watch 4 and Pixel Buds Pro 2 also make an appearance in these images. This leak reveals that Pixel Buds Pro 2's new colorway will be Moonstone. Meanwhile, the Pixel Watch 4 has a purple Active Band attached that's believed to be called 'Iris.' The new Pixel family is scheduled to launch on August 20. Rumors claim that the base Pixel 10 will cost $799, $999 for the Pixel 10 Pro, and $1,199 for the 10 Pro XL. It's still unclear what Google will charge for its foldable.

Android Circuit: Galaxy S26 Ultra Leaks, Pixel Watch 4 Pricing, Honor Magic V5 Breaks Records
Taking a look back at this week's news and headlines across the Android world, including Google confirms Pixel 10, Pixel Watch 4 pricing, pre-order records for Samsung and Honor, Galaxy S26 Ultra leaks, Now Bar updated with new AI, and Oppo continues photo partnership. Android Circuit is here to remind you of a few of the many discussions around Android in the last seven days. You can also read my weekly digest of Apple news here on Forbes. An attendee holds the new Google Pixel 9 phones during the Made By Google event (Photo by Justin ...) Google Reveals Pixel 10 It's tough to stop leaks in the modern smartphone world, so Google—in a move echoing its 2024 launch timetable—has confirmed the Pixel 10 family with a teaser ad on the Google Store: "You can currently see a video of the phone on Google's website (and below), which shows a gray-ish blue phone with three back cameras, a flash, and what appears to be a temperature sensor — previously a Pro-exclusive feature. Google's website only describes it as the 'Pixel 10,' but the phone in the video lines up more closely with official renders of the Pixel 10 Pro series." (The Verge). Pixel Watch 4 Pricing Details Pricing has yet to be confirmed on the Pixel 10 series, although retail leaks have suggested similar pricing to last year. The same is true of the Pixel Watch 4, with European sticker prices matching up 2024's model: "According to Dealabs, the 41mm Pixel Watch 4 will come in at 399€ for the Wi-Fi model and 499€ for the LTE version. The 45mm Pixel Watch 4 is 449€ for Wi-FI, while LTE is 549€. This is specifically French pricing, with the leak presumably coming from a local retailer." (9to5Google). Record Pre-Orders For Galaxy Z Series Pre-orders for the Galaxy Z Fold 7 have shown the demand for the foldable form factor remains relatively high, with over a million pre-orders for Samsung's latest: '...all the signs from key markets like India and South Korea are very encouraging. Almost surprisingly so. Not only are the Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7 nearly as popular as the Galaxy S25 series in the world's most populous nation, but the pre-order record set by the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Z Flip 5 a couple of years back in Samsung's homeland has officially been broken as well." (Phonearena). Honor's Record Preorders Speaking of foldable records, Honor is seeng a similar lift in pre-orders. The latest Magic V5 is picking up record requests around the world: "We brought in double the stock of the Honor Magic V3 for this launch, and still managed to sell out online within just 48 hours. Foldables are clearly booming in Singapore. It's clear that consumers here are eager to embrace innovation.' (Honor Singapore via Hardware Zone). Samsung Boosts Galaxy S26 Ultra Specs Looking further ahead, the foldables may be the fashion, but the flagships are waiting in the wings. Some will undoubtedly be launched in September (likely in time for Berlin's IFA consumer technology show), while others will follow later. Samsung's Galaxy S26 family is either at the very end of that cycle, or kicks off 2026. Nevertheless, one recent leak suggests it is already behind in the specs comparison: "That's still a 10% increase, but battery sizes starting with 6 and 7 are becoming the norm for Chinese brands, so this will clearly be seen as a weakness for the S26 Ultra when it arrives. On the flip side, it is said to support 65W charging, for the first time a Samsung smartphone is going to go past the previously-inescapable 45W threshold. (GSMArena). Samsung Upgrades Now Bar As artificial intelligence becomes ever more prevalent, how it is brought to users will be key. Samsung's Now Bar is one of those choices, and the South Korean company is stepping up and introducing more services to the fore: "In the 'Device Experience Guide' for the Galaxy Z Flip 7, which ships with One UI 8, Samsung highlights that the Now Bar can now display real-time app alerts right on the cover screen. The document also reveals that app support for the Now Bar is set to expand from 20 services in One UI 7 (as of June 2025) to up to 35 in One UI 8 by the end of 2025." (Android Authority). And Finally... The traditional focus of smartphone photography is still a key point both in marketing and in manufacturing, so it's worth noting that Oppo's partnership with Hasselblad is set to continue: "Back in 2022, Oppo entered a strategic partnership with legendary imaging brand Hasselblad. The pair have been collaborating on all of Oppo's flagship phones since, and the two sides are now extending that partnership and revealed they are developing a next-generation imaging system for Oppo's upcoming flagship phones."
