PlayStation Plus members also earn points for eligible purchases made on the PlayStation Store. A unique aspect of the programme is the ability to earn "Digital Collectibles." These are digital representations of iconic PlayStation characters, consoles, and memorabilia, which players can display in a virtual "Display Case" on the PlayStation App. Sony clarified these were not NFTs and could not be traded or sold. Rewards: Earned points could be redeemed for various rewards, including: PSN Wallet Funds, allowing players to get discounts or even free games by using their points to add funds to their PlayStation Network wallet. Select Game Titles: Sometimes, specific full games or DLC were available for redemption. Exclusive Digital Collectibles: Beyond the campaign-earned collectibles, some were only available through point redemption. Status Levels: Players could level up their PlayStation Stars status (from Level 1 to Level 4) by earning rare trophies and making full game purchases on the PlayStation Store. Higher levels offered additional benefits, such as priority routing for chat support. What is changing and Sony's take on the programme Sony said it is ending the programme. 'We've learned a lot from evaluating the types of activities our players respond best to,' said Sony Interactive, 'and as a company, we are always evolving with player and industry trends. As a result, we have decided to refocus our efforts and will be winding down the current version of PlayStation Stars.' While its current iteration is coming to an end, members can continue to earn Digital Collectibles, Points, and level up their status until July 23, 2025. However, after that date, there will be no new campaigns or rewards available within PlayStation Stars. The programme will officially conclude on November 2, 2026. After this, members can still redeem any remaining Points, as long as they don't expire before the program ends. Sony has assured players that they will still be able to access their Digital Collectibles even after these changes take effect. 'We want to thank all of our players for supporting PlayStation Stars since its launch,' Sony stated. 'As we explore new ways to evolve our loyalty program for the future, we'll continue to celebrate all of our players through various community activities.' While the current version of PlayStation Stars is winding down, Sony's commitment to creating meaningful experiences for players continues, with new programs and initiatives in the works. PS Portal's Cloud Streaming beta gets automatic pauses and screen captures

Today Sony is adding a bunch of new features to the PlayStation Portal's Cloud Streaming option. The beta platform is getting updates such as the ability to sort games by recently added, name in standard or reverse alphabetical order or release date. Then there's the pause feature, which will stop the game if you open the PS Portal quick menu. Gameplay will also pause if you click the power button. Be warned, you will get disconnected from the cloud streaming session if more than 15 seconds go by without you unpausing it (clicking the power button again). Plus, you'll be paused if there's a system error message on your screen. However, these features don't work, as of yet, in multiplayer mode. You're also going to have a clearer idea of when it's your turn to play. You will get an estimated wait time if the streamer server is full and then be put right into the game when you're up. Then there's the new create button, which takes a screenshot (when held down) or records a video of the game (when clicked twice). This media will stay in the PlayStation App library under captures for 14 days. There's two more, minor, updates to Cloud Streaming. You'll now receive an inactivity notification after 10 minutes of no action, just letting you know that the session is about to end. Plus, there's a user feedback screen that will pop up at the end in case there's anything you want PlayStation to know. Sony first announced the Cloud Streaming trial late last year and its available to all PlayStation Plus Premium members in beta. The experimental system lets you stream select games from PlayStation's servers, regardless of if you own a PS5.

Sony is streamlining its PlayStation beta programs with a single sign-up

Sony has run a number of PlayStation beta programs over the years, including one that lets folks try new PS5 features before they go live for everyone. The company is now making it easier to sign up for the chance to be invited to future beta tests as you'll only need to register once. The creatively named Beta Program at PlayStation allows you to log your interest in beta tests for PS5 and PC games, new console features, PlayStation App updates and changes to the brand's website. You can sign up for the free initiative starting today, but there are a few provisos. You'll need a PlayStation Network account that has a current email address (invites to betas will land in your inbox) and is in good standing. If your account has been suspended or it has other restrictions, you may be ineligible. In addition, you'll need to meet your region's legal age requirement and live in a part of the world where the program is actually available. Signing up doesn't guarantee that you'll get access to a beta test since there's bound to be interest from more people than Sony is able to accommodate. You'll need to sign a nondisclosure agreement before taking part in a beta and there's no obligation to participate if you're invited to one.
