One of my favorite PS5 games of all time is free on PlayStation Plus — and Bloodborne fans need to play it right now
PlayStation Plus has offered PS5 and PS4 gamers some pretty fantastic 'free' games in the past, but when I saw the monthly lineup for August 2025 on the PlayStation Blog, I instantly knew it ranked among the best trio of monthly games the service has ever offered subscribers. While Day Z and My Hero One's Justice 2 aren't exactly the most desirable titles around (No offence to the passionate My Hero Academia fanbase), the headliner is an incredible Soulslike that I genuinely haven't stopped talking about for almost two years since I first played it. Of course, I'm talking about Lies of P, the 2013 action game from developers Neowiz and Round8 Studios. This tricky game that takes clear inspiration from Dark Souls creators FromSoftware, most obviously 2015's acclaimed Bloodborne, is available to all PlayStation Plus members at any tier level. And I'm telling you right now, you need to play it ASAP. Lies of P: was $59, now FREE (w/ PlayStation Plus) @ PlayStation StoreInspired by games like Dark Souls and Bloodborne, Lies of P is a new entry in the Soulslike genre that challenges players to explore its nightmarish world and vanquish horrifying enemies. Master fast-paced combat and craft your perfect loadout, as you delve deeper into the sinister city of Krat as a powerful puppet come to life. Just don't expect to overcome the game's many brutal bosses without a few defeats along the way. I've praised this game so often, it's become something of a meme among my friends, with me liable to drop Lies of P into the conversation at any chance I possibly can get. Plus, even better, there genuinely hasn't been a better time to dive into Lies of P than right now. Lies of P is part of the Soulslike genre, which essentially is a shorthand for saying it cribs the formula perfected by Dark Souls developer FromSoftware. Though, as noted, Lies of P takes more cues from the Japanese studio's 2015 title Bloodborne, packing fast-paced combat that demands player aggression, and a sinister gothic world to explore. Inspired by the classic stories of Pinocchio, you play the eponymous P, a puppet come to life, who must venture out in the corrupt city of Krat to find their father, Geppetto. The story is intriguing, but it is mostly presented in optional conversations and collectible files rather than cutscenes. Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips. The star of Lies of P is the meticulously crafted combat and the punishing, but highly rewarding level of challenge. Like all Soulslike, Lies of P asks a lot of its players, with fearsome bosses likely to cut you down numerous times before you vanquish them. But each hard-fought victory is satisfying, and it plays so well you'll feel compelled to carry on. Now is also a fantastic time to be diving into Lies of P. Earlier this summer, the Overture expansion was released, and while it's an additional $29 downloaded, it adds 12-15 hours of new content to the game, and if you enjoy the base experience, trust me, you'll want to play Overture as it packs some grand story reveals and some of the game's best bosses. Alongside Overture, a free game update launched, which adds a new Boss Rush mode, letting you refight the game's hardest encounters (and even make them significantly tougher), as well as adding difficulty settings, which can reduce the challenge if you hit a brick wall. Lies of P really is a fantastic game, and was my pick for GOTY in 2023, which is no small praise considering that particular year saw numerous heavy-hitters like Marvel's Spider-Man 2, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and Baldur's Gate 3. While I enjoyed and even loved all those games, Lies of P rose above them all. I'm thrilled that, thanks to PlayStation Plus, even more players are about to dive into the twisted city of Krat and see exactly why I rank this experience as one of the PS5's very best games. New PS5 system update includes a DualSense feature I've wanted for years —here are the details
You can currently pair the PS5 DualSense controller with many devices, such as the best gaming PCs and even the best iPads. However, you have to manually re-pair the controller when switching between platforms. That might change soon, as Sony is now testing DualSense controller pairing across multiple devices. Over on the PlayStation Blog, Sony detailed how the latest PS5 system update beta is previewing this new feature and how it will work. 'With this update, you can now register up to four devices simultaneously, and easily switch between them directly from your controller,' writes Shuzo Kikuchi, VP of Product Management for Sony Interactive Entertainment. Shuzo continues: 'For example, you can take your controller, which you use with your PS5, then seamlessly switch connection to a PC to play PC games, or connect it to a smartphone to enjoy Remote Play from your PS5. With this enhanced flexibility, you can enjoy gaming more freely across multiple devices.' Pairing your DualSense controller sounds straightforward. For instance, you'll need to press and hold the PS button and one of the four face buttons to begin the pairing process. Then, on the device you wish to connect to, you'll have to select the option to add a Bluetooth device. Naturally, since the DualSense has four face buttons, you can pair the controller with up to four different devices. To switch to another device, press and hold the PS button and one of the corresponding face buttons. This new feature is currently only available to invited participants enrolled in the PS5 system update beta. Sony says it plans to release the update globally in the coming months. Those who are selected to participate will get an email invitation tomorrow (July 24) when it's available to download. Keep in mind that this and other beta features might not ever get a public release or might see major changes. Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips. If you like using your DualSense controller on different devices but hate re-pairing every time, this new feature will be a godsend. Hopefully, it'll actually make it out of the beta program and become a new feature for all PS5 users. We'll keep you posted, so stay tuned! Ghost Of Yōtei has its own limited edition PS5 – here's where you can buy it
Sony has announced two new PlayStation 5 consoles that come with Ghost Of Yōtei, ahead of its launch this autumn. In case you missed it, Sony held another of its State Of Play presentations last night; one centred entirely on its next major PlayStation 5 exclusive, Ghost Of Yōtei, which is scheduled for October 2. It wasn't a particularly long showcase, clocking in at only 20 minutes, and while new details were shared, like improved combat and optional modes meant to emulate Japanese film directors Takashi Miike and Shinichirō Watanabe, it very much looks like more of Ghost Of Tsushima. Perhaps the biggest surprise of the presentation was that the game will launch with not one but two new PlayStation 5 console variants, that are included in limited edition bundles. Both versions feature the same design of Mount Yōtei, a real-life Japanese landmark that features prominently in the game, with one being coloured gold and the other being black. According to the PlayStation Blog, the former is inspired by kintsugi, an art form that involves reparing broken ceramics with gold and lacquer, while the latter is inspired by black ink paintings, also known as sumi-e, and the basis for Ōkami's art design. Each console comes with a matching DualSense controller, with protagonist Atsu depicted on the touchpad, as well as a digital copy of Ghost Of Yōtei and the pre-order content (which consists of an in-game mask for Atsu to wear and seven new PlayStation Network avatars). Sign up to the GameCentral newsletter for a unique take on the week in gaming, alongside the latest reviews and more. Delivered to your inbox every Saturday morning. At the time of writing, the limited edition bundles for Ghost Of Yōtei aren't available for pre-order, with Sony only saying that pre-order details will be shared at a later date. What we do know is that while the gold bundle will be sold through the PlayStation Direct store and other select retailers, the black bundle will be exclusive to PlayStation Direct. While these bundles are obviously meant to attract new PlayStation 5 owners, Sony will be selling console covers with the gold patterns separately. So, if you already own a PlayStation 5 but really like the design of the new ones, you don't have to invest in a new console. Unfortunately, Sony is only offering suitable covers for the newer slim and PlayStation 5 Pro models, meaning those who still have the original bulky model are out of luck. Plus, for whatever reason, it seems console covers with the black pattern won't be sold separately. More Trending Both the gold and black DualSense controllers will be available as individual purchases but, just like the consoles, the black one will be exclusive to PlayStation Direct. Sony hasn't shared prices yet, but you can bet these bundles won't be cheap. For what it's worth, the Call Of Duty: Black Ops 6 bundles on PlayStation Direct are £339.99 for the digital edition and £434.99 for the standard edition. However, the consoles are the usual white ones, so Sony will almost certainly charge extra since these Ghost Of Yōtei bundles feature fancy new designs. Not to mention Sony bumped up the price of the digital console from £389.99 to £429.99 this past April. As for the console covers, based on the ones Sony already sells, they could cost anywhere from £44.99 to £54.99. Email gamecentral@ leave a comment below, follow us on Twitter.
