Four games VANISHING from millions of PlayStation consoles in days – but six new freebies were just added
FOUR games will be axed from PlayStation Plus as part of a huge shake-up to the digital library. Sony warned gamers that the titles will be removed in days - leaving millions of subscribers with a fast-approaching deadline to download or lose out. 2 But there's a silver lining – six surprise freebies have just landed for members, offering new adventures to dive into. Fans have until August 6 to claim this month's PS Plus Essential games before they're replaced. The titles getting the boot are: Boarderlands 3 NHL 24 Among Us Tiny Tina's Wonderlands (Next-Level Edition) All four have been free for PS Plus Essential subscribers throughout July, but will disappear from the service next month. If you've already added them to your library, don't worry – they're yours to keep as long as your subscription stays active. But if you haven't hit download yet, now's the time to act. These titles won't be hanging around once August's line-up arrives. In a move that's caught players pleasantly off-guard, Sony has also added six brand-new free games to its ever-growing catalogue – and you don't even need a PS Plus subscription to claim them. The new releases are part of the PlayStation Indies promotion, and they're available now via the PS Store. The freebies include: Doki Doki Literature Club Plus LISA: Definitive Edition ANIMAL WELL Neon White The Forgotten City A Space for the Unbound Each game is available for a limited time, with some offers set to expire by the end of July, while others will remain free into August. The full list and redemption deadlines can be found in the PlayStation Store's promotions tab. For some, the departure of big-name titles like Borderlands 3 and Tiny Tina's Wonderlands will sting. Both games remain hugely popular among co-op fans and looter-shooter lovers. That said, the newly added indies offer a fresh chance to try critically acclaimed titles that might have flown under the radar. From psychological horror in Doki Doki Literature Club to time-travelling mystery in The Forgotten City, there's something for every taste – and no excuse not to explore them while they're free. This comes after a PlayStation game mysteriously vanished from various global PS stores without warning. The PS4 exclusive game Entwined, which Sony published in 2014, has abruptly exited the UK PlayStation Store, the US PlayStation Store, and the European PlayStation Store. The game's profile still appears in the UK store, but with the tag: "Not available for purchase". Strangely, the title is still available on the Japanese PlayStation Store and PS Plus Extra. Concrete Genie, a 2019 release by the same Sony-owned studio Pixelopus and the only other published game from the studio, remains available on the PlayStation store. Pixelopus was shut down by Sony in 2023. Comic Book. The report pointed out that there is no overt licensing or multiplayer servers that would force Entwined out of PS Stores. It is unclear whether it is a rare error. 2

Shuhei Yoshida reveals Jim Ryan gave him choice to take PlayStation indie role or leave company
Shuhei Yoshida, a longtime PlayStation executive, has revealed that his transition to leading PlayStation Indies was not entirely voluntary. In a candid interview at the DICE Summit 2025, Yoshida stated that former PlayStation CEO Jim Ryan presented him with a choice: either take the indie role or leave the company. 'Moving from first-party to indies? Well, I had no choice. When Jim asked me to do the indie job, the choice was to do that or leave the company,' Yoshida said. Initially, the shift was difficult, as he had spent decades overseeing first-party PlayStation franchises like God of War, Uncharted, and The Last of Us. However, he gradually embraced the challenge, using his influence to rebuild PlayStation's relationship with indie developers. His role aimed to address criticisms that PlayStation had become less supportive of smaller studios compared to competitors like Nintendo and Xbox. Before leading PlayStation Indies in 2019, Yoshida played a crucial role in Sony's gaming expansion, having joined the company in 1993 as one of the first 80 employees working on PlayStation. He later became President of Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios in 2008, overseeing the development of some of PlayStation's most iconic titles. His experience in both hardware and software shaped the company's approach to gaming innovation. Despite his initial doubts, Yoshida's efforts helped PlayStation improve its indie game ecosystem. Developers have since reported higher sales on PlayStation, with better store visibility and improved revenue-sharing models, making the platform more competitive for independent studios. Though he left Sony in January 2025 after 38 years, Yoshida remains involved in gaming. He continues to work as an independent advisor, helping indie developers succeed in an industry he still deeply loves.
