Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) has announced that it will wind down its PlayStation Stars loyalty programme, which has been active for the past three years. The programme, designed to reward PlayStation players, will no longer accept new members starting, and current members will have until July 23, 2025, to continue earning rewards and leveling up within the program. Here's all you need to know about the PlayStation Stars loyalty programme. PlayStation Plus members also earn points for eligible purchases made on the PlayStation Store. A unique aspect of the programme is the ability to earn "Digital Collectibles." These are digital representations of iconic PlayStation characters, consoles, and memorabilia, which players can display in a virtual "Display Case" on the PlayStation App. Sony clarified these were not NFTs and could not be traded or sold. Rewards: Earned points could be redeemed for various rewards, including: PSN Wallet Funds, allowing players to get discounts or even free games by using their points to add funds to their PlayStation Network wallet. Select Game Titles: Sometimes, specific full games or DLC were available for redemption. Exclusive Digital Collectibles: Beyond the campaign-earned collectibles, some were only available through point redemption. Status Levels: Players could level up their PlayStation Stars status (from Level 1 to Level 4) by earning rare trophies and making full game purchases on the PlayStation Store. Higher levels offered additional benefits, such as priority routing for chat support. What is changing and Sony's take on the programme Sony said it is ending the programme. 'We've learned a lot from evaluating the types of activities our players respond best to,' said Sony Interactive, 'and as a company, we are always evolving with player and industry trends. As a result, we have decided to refocus our efforts and will be winding down the current version of PlayStation Stars.' While its current iteration is coming to an end, members can continue to earn Digital Collectibles, Points, and level up their status until July 23, 2025. However, after that date, there will be no new campaigns or rewards available within PlayStation Stars. The programme will officially conclude on November 2, 2026. After this, members can still redeem any remaining Points, as long as they don't expire before the program ends. Sony has assured players that they will still be able to access their Digital Collectibles even after these changes take effect. 'We want to thank all of our players for supporting PlayStation Stars since its launch,' Sony stated. 'As we explore new ways to evolve our loyalty program for the future, we'll continue to celebrate all of our players through various community activities.' While the current version of PlayStation Stars is winding down, Sony's commitment to creating meaningful experiences for players continues, with new programs and initiatives in the works. Sony Is Ending Its PlayStation Stars Program: Here's What to Do With Your Rewards

Sony is putting its PlayStation Stars rewards program on permanent hiatus. The program, which launched in summer 2022 and arrived in the US later that autumn, offered gamers a chance to earn points, collectibles, and games by completing in-game activities similar to Discord's Quests. "Since launching the program, we've learned a lot from evaluating the types of activities our players respond best to, and as a company, we are always evolving with player and industry trends," a representative for Sony said in a blog post. "Through this evaluation, we have decided to refocus our efforts and will be winding down the current version of PlayStation Stars. We will continue to evaluate our key findings from this program, and are looking into ways to build upon these learnings." Got Stars? These are the dates to know Sign-ups for Stars have been halted starting Wednesday. Existing members have until July 23 at 7:59 a.m. PT to earn points. After that, players have until November 2026 to redeem any remaining points on their account. Current PlayStation Stars members can continue to redeem Points as long as their Points don't expire before then, but those who cancel their membership will lose all earned points. Stars members can still access their Digital Collectibles, even after the program ends. A representative for Sony did not immediately respond to a request for comment. While PlayStation Stars is being shut down, it doesn't seem to be the end of Sony's loyalty program efforts. The official website mentions that "the current version of PlayStation Stars is ending," and the blog post says that new members won't be able to sign up for "this version" of the program. However, if Sony has a replacement program in the works, there are no details about what it might be or how it'll work. This is in contrast to Nintendo's Gold Points program, which was shut down entirely in March 2025 with no talk of a replacement. The latest in a rough year for Sony Fans of the popular console haven't gotten the best news in 2025. According to Bloomberg, Sony cancelled two unnamed live service games from Bend and Bluepoint in January, and several tour dates for the company's PlayStation The Concert world tour have been moved or cancelled. PlayStation fans have also dealt with a PlayStation Network outage, rising console costs due to tariffs, and the delay of Grand Theft Auto VI until 2026. Pair that with rising game costs, and it's no surprise that fans have been unhappy with PlayStation Stars shutting down. "Well, this sucks," said a commenter going by NEOMERCER on the blog post. "I liked PlayStation Stars honestly. It did always kind of feel like it was lacking something though. Like that extra value. Hopefully they can bring that in the future."

PlayStation Stars loyalty programme is closing but Sony promises replacement

Sony is shutting down the PlayStation Stars loyalty scheme for PS4 and PS5 and it's already stopped taking new members. After significantly downgrading the service in 2024, Sony has done the inevitable and announced that the PlayStation Stars loyalty programme is to be closed, after just three years. The service allowed you to earn points by buying and playing games, which could be used as discounts for various PlayStation products, including games. However, you needed to earn thousands in order to get a full-priced game and that became even harder when Sony tightened the rules last year. Although fine in theory, PlayStation Stars was never very well promoted and Sony seemed to quickly lose interest in it. But while it's now in the process of being shuttered they have promised to replace it with something better. 'Since launching the programme, we've learned a lot from evaluating the types of activities our players respond best to, and as a company, we are always evolving with player and industry trends,' reads the annoucement on the PlayStation Blog. 'Through this evaluation, we have decided to refocus our efforts and will be winding down the current version of PlayStation Stars. We will continue to evaluate our key findings from this programme and are looking into ways to build upon these learnings.' Starting immediately, PlayStation Stars will not accept any new members and if you cancel your membership now you'll lose all your points, no matter how many you have. Members will still be able to spend their credits and level up their status, but only until July 23 at 3.59pm BST. After that there will be no new rewards or status benefits, with the whole service shutting down completely on November 2, 2026. More Trending Whether the PlayStation Stars name will be kept in the future is unknown. It's also unclear whether the replacement will be up and running before the current one closes down, as it's a long wait until next November. The programme's brief lifespan may have been the result of the collapse of the NFT market, which it initially seemed like PlayStation Stars had been designed for. The digital collectibles are not NFTs though and cannot be traded or sold, but some suspect that was the initial idea, before Sony thought better of it. 'We want to thank all of our players for supporting PlayStation Stars since the launch in 2022. As we explore new ways to evolve our loyalty program efforts for the future, we'll continue to celebrate all of our players through the various community activities we have planned,' is the only other thing Sony has to say on the matter. Sony has announced plans to end its PlayStation Stars loyalty program after three years. File Photo by Jim Ruymen/UPI | License Photo May 21 (UPI) -- Sony announced on Wednesday that it will be shutting down its PlayStation Stars loyalty program after three years. PlayStation Stars, which began in 2022, allowed PlayStation gamers to earn rewards by purchasing and playing games. The rewards included digital collectibles, video games and PlayStation Store credit. Sony stated that starting Wednesday PlayStation Stars will no longer accept new members. Canceling a membership will lock players out of rejoining the program. Players can still earn rewards through PlayStation Stars until July 23. Rewards can still be redeemed with any remaining balance until November 2, 2026 when PlayStation Stars fully ends. The digital collectibles that players have earned will still be accessible after the program ends. "We want to thank all of our players for supporting PlayStation Stars since the launch in 2022. As we explore new ways to evolve our loyalty program efforts for the future, we'll continue to celebrate all of our players through the various community activities we have planned," Grace Chen, vice president, network advertising, loyalty and licensed merchandise at PlayStation said in a statement.

Sony is ending its PlayStation Stars loyalty program

Sony is opting out of its PlayStation Stars loyalty program. Starting today, you can no longer sign up for the program. If you're a member and cancel your membership, you won't be able to sign up again. Current members can still earn points and digital collectibles and level up their status until July 23 at 9:59 PM ET. After that, all campaigns and rewards will be kaput. The program will be entirely discontinued on November 2. But if you keep your membership until then, you can still redeem your points after that, provided they haven't expired. Sony launched PlayStation Stars in 2022. The company's first loyalty program lets you earn points by playing games and making purchases on the PlayStation Store. You can redeem points for items like PSN wallet funds and select store products. The company will now "refocus" its approach to rewards. (How, we don't know.) "We want to thank all of our players for supporting PlayStation Stars since the launch in 2022," Sony wrote on the PlayStation Blog. "As we explore new ways to evolve our loyalty program efforts for the future, we'll continue to celebrate all of our players through the various community activities we have planned."
