Sony to end PlayStation Stars loyalty program

May 21 (UPI) -- Sony announced on Wednesday that it will be shutting down its PlayStation Stars loyalty program after three years.
PlayStation Stars, which began in 2022, allowed PlayStation gamers to earn rewards by purchasing and playing games. The rewards included digital collectibles, video games and PlayStation Store credit.
Sony stated that starting Wednesday PlayStation Stars will no longer accept new members. Canceling a membership will lock players out of rejoining the program.
Players can still earn rewards through PlayStation Stars until July 23. Rewards can still be redeemed with any remaining balance until November 2, 2026 when PlayStation Stars fully ends.
The digital collectibles that players have earned will still be accessible after the program ends.
"We want to thank all of our players for supporting PlayStation Stars since the launch in 2022. As we explore new ways to evolve our loyalty program efforts for the future, we'll continue to celebrate all of our players through the various community activities we have planned," Grace Chen, vice president, network advertising, loyalty and licensed merchandise at PlayStation said in a statement.

Watch: John Cena, Idris Elba team up in 'Heads of State'
June 4 (UPI) -- John Cena, Idris Elba and Priyanka Chopra Jonas drive through an explosion in a new trailer for the Prime Video action comedy Heads of State. Elba stars as British prime minister Sam Clarke, while Cena plays Will Derringer, the U.S. president who doubles as an actor. Chopra Jonas portrays Noel Bisset, an MI6 agent. "Twenty-four hours ago, somebody shot down Air Force One over unfriendly territory," a voice says in the preview, which arrived Wednesday. Clarke and Derringer were in the plane when it was attacked. "Now, they'll embark on a breathtaking adventure," the narrator continues. The rivals are forced by their circumstances to learn to work together. Carla Gugino, Jack Quaid, Stephen Root, Sarah Niles, Richard Coyle and Paddy Considine also star in the film, which arrives on Prime Video July 2.

Madame Web: Dakota Johnson Says Flop Wasn't Her Fault
It's no secret that Sony Pictures' Madame Web was a massive failure, but star Dakota Johnson doesn't view the problems with the movie as her fault, but instead points to another direction. Speaking to the Los Angeles Times in a recent interview, the infamous Sony and Marvel movie was brought up. Johnson was asked if she'd be done with high-profile films after it flopped. Johnson noted that the project failing wasn't her fault, but instead a result of what happens when things change too much behind the scenes. 'It wasn't my fault,' Johnson said. 'There's this thing that happens now where a lot of creative decisions are made by committee. Or made by people who don't have a creative bone in their body. And it's really hard to make art that way. Or to make something entertaining that way. And I think unfortunately with 'Madame Web,' it started out as something and turned into something else. And I was just sort of along for the ride at that point. But that happens. Bigger-budget movies fail all the time.' Despite the film's failures, Johnson has no bad feelings about starring in a bigger project, noting she's also been in smaller movies that haven't succeeded as well. Originally released in February 2024, Madame Web starred Johnson, Sydney Sweeney, Isabela Merced, Celeste O'Connor, Tahar Rahim, Mike Epps, Emma Roberts, and Adam Scott. The film was largely panned upon release, and just barely earned back its reported budget at the box office, making it a box office failure for the company.
