Alice Cooper live at the Playhouse ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

What better venue than the Playhouse Theatre for the Alice Cooper show with its resident ghost, Arthur, knocking about on the ninth floor? Opening act Bobbie Dazzle kicks the night into action with a platform boot and some foot-stomping British glam rock at 7:30pm prompt. During Flowers On Mars, there's an immediate and positive reaction from the audience for the act's first time in Edinburgh. Fronted by Siân Greenway, the cat-suited show-woman sings joyfully about all that glitters and is gold during Revolution, with its power-chorus and chords to match. Back To The City contains an infectious Mott The Hoople-style intro that turns into another infectious earworm. A cover of Abba's Watch Out is a good fit for the band and clearly connected with what this Edinburgh audience loved about the early 1970s. It's not long before two plague doctors walk across the stage in front of a massive banner that reads 'Banned in Scotland! Alice Cooper! In a top hat and spider eyes, Cooper bursts out to the crunching riff and sing-along chorus of Lock Me Up that runs into Welcome To The Show. His trio of guitarists and bassist Chuck Garrick line up behind him like a gang of rock vampires, as the track suggests, they look like they have just been let out of a cage. A veteran in the front row catches Cooper's cane after he launches it into the manic front row, she lets out a shriek of glee after catching it and guards it with her life. It's not long before Alice digs into his bounty of hits and jukebox classics, the irresistible guitar hook of No More Mr Nice Guy cranks up as Cooper points his sword into far the stalls. Perhaps there would have been no Sex Pistols without Cooper's I'm Eighteen, the song Johnny Rotten performed when asked to audition for the band. During the performance, Cooper still subtly captures the tension, attitude, and anxiety of being a teenager. Another theatrical high point is He's Back (The Man Behind The Mask), the track has a life of its own and a cult following due to its synth leanings and the fact that it was also the theme for Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives. During the performance, the original shock rocker produces another moment of memorable theatre when a supposed fan runs on stage to take pictures, at Cooper's instruction, Jason slits the fan's throat, blood spurts, and the Coop's goons remove the body from the stage. Bass player Chuck Garrick bumps and stomps along on bass and delivers the groove as Cooper shakes a handful of yellow maracas during the funky, comic-horror 1976 cut Go To Hell. The unmistakable riff of his late 80s pop-rock classic Poison finds Alice return to the stage in a purple tunic while stalking the stage. A melodic Ballad of Dwight Fry finds Alice breaking free of a straitjacket to overcome his tormentor during another big-show number. It features his wife, Sheryl, a dancer and choreographer who has been part of Cooper's show on and off for 50 years. She sends her husband to the guillotine during a singalong of I Love The Dead. The show ends with his 1972 classic School's Out, as the riff begins, massive colourful balloons bounce out onto the crowd's heads and burst, showering them with confetti. A final encore of Feed My Frankenstein finishes with a Cooper version of the monster thrashing around the stage. At the end, there's a fitting tribute to another rock titan, Ozzy Osbourne, who passed away the day before. Alice leads the Edinburgh crowd for a chant of 'Ozzy, Ozzy, Ozzy Ozzy'. Cooper remains a master of his craft and one of rock n' roll's greatest survivors. PHOTO Richard Purden Alice with Nita Strauss Bobbie Dazzle by Richard Purden Like this: Like Related

Janet Jackson Is Cool in a Crisp White Suit for a Night Out in London

"Hearst Magazines and Yahoo may earn commission or revenue on some items through these links." Janet Jackson has always been the essence of cool. On Monday, Jackson surprised fans when she arrived at the 1,500th performance of Cabaret at London's Kit Kat Club. Fans cheered outside of the Playhouse Theatre as she made her way inside the venue while in a crisp white suit. Jackson's summer suit was composed of a boxy, single-breasted blazer with a sleek shawl lapel, styled over a half-buttoned white collared shirt, and paired with tailored wide-leg white pants. The legendary singer wore her braids in a top-knot bun and accessorized the look with large gold hoops and black platform sneakers, adding a sporty flair to the sleek outfit. And while the star posed for photos solo inside the theater, she didn't arrive alone. The All For You singer attended the show with fellow musician and longtime friend Maxwell, who recently performed a headlining set at the 2025 Essence Music Festival in New Orleans. Like Maxwell, this time last summer, Jackson served as the headliner for the 2024 Essence Festival. At the same time, she was also on the road for her international Together Again Tour, which started in the spring of 2023 and ended in October of last year. In May, the Grammy-winning artist was honored with the Icon Award at the 2025 American Music Awards in Las Vegas. For the momentous occasion, Jackson also chose an all-white ensemble, which she wore both on the red carpet and on the stage for her legacy award performance. The hip-hop-inspired look featured a puffy white bomber jacket styled over a white ribbed tank and baggy jeans with peekaboo underwear from Vetements. Eddie Redmayne feeling ‘such pride' as Cabaret marks 1,500th show in London

The Day Of The Jackal star, 43, led the West End revival of the show, alongside Irish actress Jessie Buckley, in 2021 and won an Olivier for his role as the Emcee, the flamboyant master of ceremonies. 'I feel such pride in what the show is, and having been some part of helping put it together, and I've been lucky enough to come and see almost all the cast who have taken over and really the show in its essence', he told the PA news agency at a special gala night. 'I think our director's version of it is a celebration of the individual, and watching how the show shifts and changes as each actor brings their own entirety of themselves to it has been a real wonder and nothing makes me happier when I'm in London and I see a Cabaret poster go by on a bus, and I know that it's continuing to thrill each season, and kind of reflect what's going on in the world.' The show, which features music from composer John Kander, is set in Berlin during the jazz age as the Nazis rise to power. Set in the seedy Kit Kat Club, which acts as a safe space for outsiders, the story explores themes of sexuality and fascism. Redmayne told PA: 'Each time Cabaret has ever been put on, it's felt resonant, and it just, sadly, feels more and more resonant daily, and as John (Kander) says, he hopes one day it won't. A post shared by Cabaret at the Kit Kat Club (@kitkatclubldn) 'But, in the meantime, sort of reflecting learning from our history is pretty important, but doing so in this joyful, bacchanalian, sort of, celebration of the individual is special.' Since Redmayne's performance, a number of other actors have played the Emcee at the Playhouse Theatre including Bad Education actor Layton Williams, Olivier Award-winning actor Luke Treadaway, US star Billy Porter, and It's A Sin actor, Callum Scott Howells. Sex Education star Aimee Lou Wood, model Cara Delevingne, musical theatre star Marisha Wallace, and musician Self Esteem are among those who have played Sally Bowles. The musical theatre production is partly based on Christopher Isherwood's 1939 novel Goodbye to Berlin which tells of the glamour, danger, excess and repression of Berlin society. Bridgerton actress Hannah Dodd is currently playing Sally Bowles while TikTok star Rob Madge is starring as the Emcee. Cabaret at the Kit Kat Club is currently booking until Saturday March 28 2026.
