Man Who Led Police On Chase Ordered To Pay Over $53,000 Restitution

Read the full story on The Auto Wire There are a lot of good reasons to not lead police on a chase, one of them being that you might have to cough up a lot of money in restitution. A man from Illinois who ran from cops in Kenosha County, Wisconsin has been ordered by a court to pay over $53,000 for the about this the next time fleeing police sounds like a good idea. According to Fox6 Milwaukee, Markeece Muhammad led Pleasant Prairie Police on a chase in February 2024 after Flock cameras got a hit on a stolen car. When officers arrived in the area, one confirmed the license plate on the Chevy Traverse Muhammed was driving came back as reported stolen out of Illinois. As the suspect came to a roundabout, one cop blocked him from the front and another from behind in an attempt to keep him from running. But Muhammed got the brilliant idea to reverse and ram into one of the police cruisers, causing significant damage and totaling it. He then fled at speeds upwards of 90 mph on surface streets, at one point going in the oncoming lanes of traffic to try ditching pursuing cops. While that stunt did let the guy get away and he ditched the stolen Chevy, officers used a dog and drone to locate him and his passenger hiding in the area. Now he's on the hook for $53,828.24 after pleading guilty to first-degree recklessly endangering safety and drive or operate vehicle without consent. That plea deal did get three other charges dropped. Of course, there are other great reasons than paying restitution for why running from cops is a dumb plan. For starters, you can crash and seriously injure/kill yourself or someone else. You're also adding to the charges you would be facing if you didn't run. In some states, fleeing police is a felonious charge. Image via Pleasant Prairie Police Department, Fox6 Milwaukee Join our Newsletter, subscribe to our YouTube page, and follow us on Facebook.
