Next and Matalan urgently recall children's clothing due to 'strangulation' risk
The items do not meet the requirements of the General product Safety Regulations 2005. Popular children's clothing sold at Next and Matalan have been found not to meet product safety requirements, with parents being urged to "cease use immediately." The two high street retailers have had to issue recalls for a variety of girls' summer dresses and outfit sets from the Miss clothing range that "present risks of strangulation and choking." As the products don't meet strict technical specifications, the clothing brand, aimed at young girls, issued the recall as a precautionary measure. An alert posted to the Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) has advised that the affected items feature decorative draw cords that exceed the maximum permissible length. A risk description reads: "The products present risks of strangulation and choking as they have decorative draw cords which exceed the maximum permissible length. "While worn, the cord may become entangled and tighten across the child's neck, leading to strangulation, entrapment or choking." It further states that all the products do not meet the requirements of the General product Safety Regulations 2005. Parents who have bought the items are being told to "cease use immediately", with Next customers being urged to return them to store, where a full refund will be provided. Customers can also arrange a collection with Next by calling 0333 777 8000 and choosing option one. They can also return Selfserve items with their product number by calling 0800 587 7758. Returns can also be made under members' accounts on the Next website. Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! Purchases made from Matalan will need to be returned to the Miss brand itself, with the retailer asking shoppers to create a return label on the Royal Mail website. In other retail recall-related news, we recently reported that Tesco's cleansing wipes had been pulled from shelves after the beauty product was found to pose a potential infection risk. The supermarket recalled various packs of its Tesco Kind & Pure Facial Cleansing Wipes due to unsatisfactory microbiological testing and detecting the presence of a bacterium, Pluralibacter gergoviae.
